1-0 out of 5 stars not good
If youwant to get a compilation of songs that are wellknown and a bit over done... this is the book for you. However, the songs are not in their original keys, and are not suitable for most formal auditions. futher more, the song selections are not unique... and to find a unique song this book does you no good.4-0 out of 5 stars The Best in Broadway Sheet Music-Review

5-0 out of 5 stars That's Entertainment!
Mr Fordin's a great writer with great taste in subject matter. I owned this one first in hardback as "The World of Entertainment". It's so fabulous I bought it again in paperback. One of the best researched and documented film books I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pete Hamilton
The text of this book is very interesting. It's more of a nuts and bolts of how the movies were put together than a critque of the movies themselves.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - where's the spiral?
The music is good and clearly printed, but I bought this edition for the spiral binding as advertised - and got none - which makes opening the score flat on the piano stand very tricky, and turning pages while playing from the score impossible. So "No Thanks". ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad...
This book contains a good variety of songs that are quite popular, it makes playing it more fun. What I didn't really like was the rests at the beginning. I really wanted to play right from the start and not rest for 8 measures or so. The CD will be kind of hard to follow if you don't count, so if your looking for music that has easier countings, look for another unless you're going to count. Other than those flaws, this is a very useful book, the solos sound great, and are fun. You can learn a lot from these even if your experienced or mid-level. Even beginniners that are very determined and have a private lesson teacher will find this book useful in their learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars A VERY FINE BOOK FOR BEGINNERS
I'm a beginner flute player and I like this book too much. The scores included contains beautiful melodies and with the cd you feel that you are playing with an orchestra. The CD contains demos played with flute and orchestra and traks with orchestra only. The sound is real, isn't electronic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best in soundtrack-to-piano music.
It's books like this that made me wish I had the natural talent for music, or had at least studied and practiced hard enough to develop talent. The motion picture score that Howard Shore composed for The Lord of the Rings trilogy is absolutely brilliant, and while nothing can match his magnificent orchestra, there is something unique and incredible about hearing the same music played on a simple piano -- coming from your very own fingers.5-0 out of 5 stars lord of the rings...
This is an absolutely wonderful book of music. I am very into the piano, having taken lessons since I was five, and love it. In short, if you play the piano, love LOTR, and the music from the movie - buy this book! I am also a huge fan of both the books and movie trilogy, and Peter Jackson has my highest respect for staying more true to the books than any Hollywood movie does. Or any movie, for that matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Music
This has to be one of the most amazing books of sheet music I've ever seen. It's thrilling to play the beautiful songs featured in the Fellowship of the Ring. With favorite songs like "May It Be" and "In Dreams", it can be used for piano, guitar, or vocals. I was really pleased that the melody is worked into the piano music, so it sounds great with or without accompaniment. I would recommed it to everyone, even those who don't like Lord of the Rings! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Like as it really is...
Maddest of all is to see things as they are and not as they should be.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite
I found Man of La Mancha to be quite confussing. The plot is so crazy that it is hard to get a grasp on what is happening until halfway through the book. One you do figure it out, it is rather humerous, but not one of my favorites by any means.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Exactly What You Should Expect From It
Having performed a goodly segment of this script during an ill-fated production from hell, I must say that it was quite good to have a copy of the script that was what I was looking for. Man of La Mancha is most certainly NOT the original (Don Quixote), but it doesn't need to be. If you want the original book, you may as well read it in it's original, Spanish text (as I have). Have fun with the story, it's one of the more referenced, when dealing with insanity. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving
I first heard about this musical when a friend told me she was auditioning for a production. Her brief synopsis was enough to get me interested, and I got the CD. The musical is based on the 1995 film of the same title, not on a novel. After listening, I was intrigued enough to purchase the movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, but missing songs.
I have seen this play off broadway at local theatres, and There have always been songs on it which were different.I understand there have been different versions of this show. The newer version of the play has additional songs, such as "I Need to Know" sung by Jekyll and a song called "Bring on the Men" sung by the Red Rat Dancers (this song replaced "No one knows who I am"). Along With these, others songs are missing.Read more

The first edition has 27 more songs than the second one(which I bought). I was a little dissappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars BEST COLLECTION OF BROADWAY SONGS
THIS BOOK IS THE GREATEST COLLECTION OF BROADWAY CLASSICS I HAVE EVER PURCHASED.IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE LIST OF SONGS, GO TO ... AND SEARCH FOR THE TITLE.THE BINDING IS A SPIRAL BINDING WHICH HAS THE TENDANCY TO FALL APART AFTERUSE (I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE).IT HAS MANY OF THE POPULAR THEMES FROM CLASSIC BROADWAY SHOWS AND THERE ARE GOOD ARRANGEMENTS OF MOST OF THESE SONGS.I WOULD SAY IT IS AN SLIGHTLY ADVANCED PIANO LEVEL. I USE THE BOOK FOR THEATRE ORGAN AND THERE'S PLENTY OF SPOTS FOR IMPROVISING AND REARRANGING.I DON'T KNOW OF A BETTER BOOK OF BROADWAY CLASSICS IN PUBLICATION, SO I GIVE IT A 4 OUT OF 5 (BECAUSE OF THE BINDING PROBLEM I HAD)

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Definitive
I bought this book years ago on the request of my vocal coach. It hasproved to include most of the classic songs from broadway that a singer inthe musical theatre could hope for.A few downfalls are that the moreobscure songs are not likely to be found in this collection, and songs frommore recent productions are not included. I think Les Miserables is themost current inclusion in this collection. To conclude, however, thisis a great source for all the traditional great broadway classics, and Iwould highly reccomend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars To those people that gave this book 1 star
This book features 20 songs from the musical.Good selection of songs in the appropriate keys.Great compilation for Frankie Valli fans.
5-0 out of 5 stars CAREFUL---Piano/Vocal selections...NOT a biography!
Please be aware that this is NOT a biography of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.Instead, it is the Piano/Vocal Selections from the Broadway hit musical JERSEY BOYS.My favorite music books are the ones that contain all or at least 90% of the songs you will hear in the show and/or on the CD. This is definitely one of those books! I haven't seen the show yet but I am delighted to see that nearly every song from the CD is in this book with the exception of a couple of the medleys.I believe you will be very satisfied to own this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pointless and Misleading
If you want to consult the First Folio, get a facsimile.Freeman's "editions" are not only pointless, they are profoundly misleading: only someone who was completely ignorant about Jacobean book-production could possibly suppose that the vagaries of F1 represent a meticulous adherence to Shakespeare's intentions. In the matter of lineation, for example, Charlton Hinman long ago showed that compositors would divide their copy into lines to suit their own convenience -- i.e. to take up more or less space as the process of "casting off" required.

5-0 out of 5 stars the only way to read Shakespeare
If you are interested in a simple read of the Bard, any edition will do. But if you want to know what Shakespeare wanted from his actors - how he imagined (I imagine) his lines being spoken - this is the edition for you. The line endings in this edition are different from those in most editions and clearly change the meaning of the text. Captializations and punctuations are clear guides to speech. While this edition is not for everyone, anyone interested in acting Shakespeare, whether on stage or in the privacy of home, must have this edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full Vocal Score
As advertised, this is the full vocal score to "Night Music" by Stephen Sondheim. The music is presented as a piano reduction of Tunick's orchestrations with instrumental cues written in.Measures of music which were omitted from the original Broadway production have been included, but are marked with asterisks detailing their omission.People familiar with the show will notice that Sondheim composed lyrics for the opening number which have been traditionally replaced with "la's." The score includes a complete breakdown of Tunick's orchestration, and notes that some instrumental parts are "optional."

5-0 out of 5 stars 2004!AnotherLittle Night Music film please!
I gave the musical five stars, not this movie. What were they thinking by not putting the original cast in it!!!If they can remake all these other movies, they can remake A Little Night Music, and put some damn good singers in there.Does anybody know a producer?I don't.Get cracking!!This is too good a musical to have just the one pitiful example.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget the Movie
The 1976 film version of this show has been JUSTIFIABLY panned.Forget it.Listen instead to the soundtrack album and bask in what is Sondheim's most lilting score. An entire musical in triple time written by a composer at the height of his powers:What more could one ask?? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Close to a Vocal Score
Vocal Scores for modern musicals aren't published because if they were, there'd be so many illegal productions of musicals. However, the vocal selections from scores are published. While these are nice, most of the time, several songs are omitted. However, thankfully, almost the entire score of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, one of the best 2005 musicals, is included. The piano arangements are similar to the orchestral parts and most harmonies are in the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful.
Not being any sort of trained musician, except self-trained, perhaps I don't have the proper authority to state this, but of course I'm going to anyway: this book is wonderful. The piano parts are very involved and reflect the original score. Vocal harmonies are included in the songs where applicable, and even selections that normally one wouldn't think would be in a vocal book (i.e. 'Great Big Stuff') are included.
3-0 out of 5 stars Acceptable songbook from a show
This collection is fine for fans of the show; the scoring has been only moderately adjusted, so it's not for two-finger pianists. While there is a bio of David Yazbek and four pages of photos, this volume lacks a plot synopsis, which would help those not familiar with the show to place the songs in context. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Get it Cheaper
Okay I love this book alot. It includes almost if not the entire show but I think its ridiculous how much they are charging. I bought it for literally $1.07 at the Dollar Tree, so I bought 3 for family and friends.
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost as much fun as the show!
I have loved this show since I first listenend to the recording, and after seeing the show I think I may be obsessed with it.The show is completely fun and entertaining and this book does a good job at capturing the spirit and energy of the show.I particularly like all the full color photos and candids of the cast offstage as well as the "diary" entries from Marisa Jaret Winokur (Tracy) and Harvey Firestein (Edna). This book is worth it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent yet imperfect companion to the hit Broadway show.
If you're a fan of the Broadway musical Hairspray, then you need this book. It's really that simple. In addition to a detailed history of the show, tons of photos, insider information, detailed analyses of previous versions of the script and the script that was eventually used, and even more information in general than you could possibly digest in one (or even two) readings, it's full of exactly the same kind of wacky, irreverant style and humor that's found in the show and that's helped to make it such a big success on Broadway.Hairspray: The Roots is hip, hilarious, colorful, and, in its own way, very musical.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific music!
I had no idea that Mel Brooks could write music. The catchiness and charm of his songs really surprised me - I did not expect to like the music of "The Producers" so much until I saw the movie (not the theater production, alas!).After that I knew I had to have the piano/vocal music!

5-0 out of 5 stars See the show, read the book, sing the music!
I am a big fan of Mel Brooks and more recently a fan of his newest hit musical formerlly starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.Since then I have been reading The Producers forum at the official website, and almost every week someone asks "Where can I get a copy of the sheet music" or some variation there of.Well here it is!This collection of 19 catchy tunes and hillarious lyrics is great for singing along with a piano accompament. The songs include ...'Til Him, Along Came Bialy Betrayed, Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop, Goodbye!, Haben Sie Gehort Das Deutsche Band? (Have You Ever Heard The German Band?), Heil Myself, I Wanna Be A Producer, In Old Bavaria, Keep It Gay, Opening Night, Prisoners Of Love (Leo & Max), Springtime For Hitler, That Face, The King Of Broadway, We Can Do It, When You Got It, Flaunt It, Where Did We Go Right?, and You Never Say Good Luck On Opening Night! This is almost everysong on the CD (with the exception of the Oventure and the reprise of Opening Night). With this book you'll have an opportunity to sing, hum, clap and hail Mel the way you may have done when you saw this great Broadway hit! ...
