4-0 out of 5 stars Most all music, some missing!
This music highlights the old version of Kiss Me Kate before the Broadway revival! It is great for auditions for soprano voices. There are one or two songs for the alto voice. Very clear in marking who is the singer. I foundthis book to be full of great songs at a reasonably good value. The book iswritten in fairly large print so they are easy to read when singing.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Dissapointing
I enjoyed the music featured in this book, however I did not feel that it highlighted the best music from an absolutley hilarios score. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic script
Though it differs slightly from the production script this version is very well done with excellent photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Whole Storey
Wonderful! It's the full script not a novel. It includes some wonderful pictures from the original production.

4-0 out of 5 stars See it Live!
Reading "Fiddler on the Roof" is not the same as the experience of seeing it performed. In print, the story falls as flat as the pages. With so many characters the reader may have trouble decoding what is happening to who.

5-0 out of 5 stars lyrics for "Rosalie"
I wish I had known about this book sooner. This is a "must-buy" for anyone serious about Cole's work. What was of greatest interest to me was that all of the lyrics for Cole's 1937 "Rosalie" are included. If you want to read an alternate treatment, recommended is "Rosalie, A Storybook Operetta" with the incomparable lyrics of Cole Porter to move the romance along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sublime
Everything about this one is right.Beautiful job.And so elegant which is really so fitting for Cole Porter.I think it's worthy of him. What a joy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for any Cole Porter fan or researcher
A "must have" for any true Cole Porter fan or music researcher. This collection has the all the lyrics for Cole Porter's almost-1000 songs! Of particular note is an awesome "phrase index" for looking upcommon phrases and quotes in order to find what song a phrase is from. Italso includes copyright information for every song for those who want toquote Cole for whatever reason. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Here at last is Furth's libretto to the convention-shattering 1970 musical (revived on Broadway in 1995) that launched composer Sondheim's most fertile period--and his cult. Originally a series of one-act plays about marriage, the musical adds a linking character, Robert, who is the only one without a spouse. In visiting each of a half dozen couples who are his friends, Robert seeks to learn "what do you get" from being married. The answer is far from Hallmark, but visceral. The text includes Furth's witty, cutting dialogue and Sondheim's brilliant lyrics--especially to "Another Hundred People," "Have I Got a Girl for You" and "Being Alive." A portrait of urban angst that is nonetheless hilarious. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Company script
Funny, touching, sly.Couple it with the score and it's 70s Broadway magic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sondheim's Signature
I own a copy of both the vocal score and the complete libretto and I should say it is worth owning both. The vocal score when played on piano gives lively music to make anyone dance to the beat.It never loses its Broadway touch. The notes when played by a skilled pianist would make it sound more like the orchestra accompaniment.I would highly recommend those of you who love Sondhei'm style to own one of these. This would definitely be a smash hit for your school or community theater.

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest musical comedy ever written
I love Sondheim, and this show is the best of his works in my opinion. Full of challenging songs, and complex arrangements, it will surely please the pianist or singer who is looking for something a little outside therealm of Roger's and Hammerstein to sing. Go into your nest audition with"another Hundred People", or "Getting Married Today"and blow your director away! This book contains a lot of material that isnot readily available in other volumes and it is definately worth theinvestment. songs of note "Being Alive" "Company","Barcelona", "the little things you do togrther" andthe immortal "Ladies Who Lunch" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to play, fantastic to hear
I bought this music book a few years ago, and it is (so far) the only Harry Potter music book that I have. While some of the songs are a bit difficult to play, actually hearing what the pieces sound like when a really advanced person plays them is really beautiful. The book has some difficult parts in it, with sharps and flats, but other pieces are easier to play, such as A Window the Past, and A Winters Spell, which isn't really featured in the movie and is not on the soundtrack (in the movie, it where harry knocks down the carrolers in Hogsmead), and the Harry Potter theme (called Hedwigs Theme). The book itself is on good quality paper, but has staples holding the book together instead of the normal music book binding. If you are an intermediate player, then this book will be fun, and a little challenging, but very worth the effort once you can play through the pieces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Piano Book
This book is a great piano book. The song selection is great, espescially if you have the first to piano books, beacuase it only has one song repeated. My favorite song in the book is Buckbeak's Flight. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A notation and watch for this on television
The correct opening line of "My Romance" should be "My romance doesn't HAVE to have a moon in the sky" instead of "NEED to have a moon in the sky" as I incorrectly stated in my review here.5-0 out of 5 stars An important collection
Lorenz Hart is one of the finest lyricists in the history of American musical theater. He is largely responsible for elevating the process of writing lyrics into an art form. Before Hart, lyrics were usually trite and predictable with simplistic rhymes such as "I am blue, and so are you."5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable document on many levels
Very few collections of lyrics are worth reading as literature. First there was W.S. Gilbert, who showed the way that intelligent lyrics need not be anathema to a light-hearted musical; and whose lyrics can stand asindependent poems. Afterwards we had P.G. Wodehouse, Cole Porter, NoelCoward, Ira Gershwin--and the best of 'em all, Lorenz Hart.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars revision is misleading
It is a great book but I ordered it for a certain song that was in the first edition. That song had been removed from this edition. That was disappointing

5-0 out of 5 stars There's so much stuff in here!
This book has so many great songs. It has an even amount of fun songs ("I Can Cook Too" from On The Town), love songs ("I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miz), funny songs ("I Hate Men" from Kiss Me, Kate), well known songs ("On My Own" from Les Miz), love songs ("Music That Makes Me Dance" from Funny Girl), high songs ("Feelings" from The Apple Tree), low songs ("Small World" from Gypsy) inspirational songs ("Hold On" from Secret Garden) classics ("I Get a Kick Out Of You," "Johnny One Note," "I Wish I Were In Love Again") new stuff ("I'd be Surprisingly Good For You" from Evita) and songs I've yet to learn ("My Husband Makes Movies"). There are so many songs in this book! It's absolutely worth getting. And you don't have to worry about it being in your range!

5-0 out of 5 stars Eclectic, Comprehensive & Entertaining
The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthologies have long been respected as a line of well-chosen solos, especially for higher voices.Reaching far into the depths of musical theatre history, Richard Walters assembles pieces for every possible occasion: from the well-known "Les Misrables" to the classic "Gypsy" and "Oliver!" to such new musicals as "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and "The Secret Garden".The selections are not all designed for blasting, nor are they all love songs - Walters establishes a comfortable and interesting balance between the two extremes. Each of the volumes contains vocal/piano score in the original keys, however some editions contain condensed orchestral scores.I wholly recommend this entire series, if not for audition purposes, for just personal enjoyment! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
Compared to the wit and flair I had expected, I found this volume boring and dull. It is largely a compilation (with Suskin providing brief notes) of theatrical reviews. Approach this with care if, as I did, you searched on a star's name and found a mention in this book - it may be only one line.
2-0 out of 5 stars How did Suskind get authorship credit on this book?
If you are looking for a fresh look at some of Broadway's bomb, do not stop here.
5-0 out of 5 stars Closing Notices...
On 45th Street in Manhattan there is a restaurant that is favored by theatre folk and playgoers alike, Joe Alllen's is it's name and on their walls are theatrical posters, not unusual for the locale, being in the heart of the theatre district, what's notable about the collection of posters is that all those displayed were huge flops. Steven Suskin's, "Second Act Trouble" takes this concept (theatrical failures) and illuminates how once promising shows turn into failures. The collection covers twenty or so Broadway shows(some never made it to The Great White Way) that flopped, losing all or most of their investment. The articles, published previously from bios and newspaper accounts from various writers, are grouped into chapters such as; When Everything Goes Wrong, Star Turns and Battle Stations. Suskin has assembled the most illuminating accounts of; what seemed like a good idea at the time, Liza Minneli directed by Martin Scorcesse-can't fail, right? It is a very enjoyable read although as you follow show after show dive off a cliff it gets a little depressing, how they failed; the who, what and where of" bombs" could be instructive for investors and producers alike, but, alas there is no sure fire formula for a hit show (could you imagine a show about a murderer who dices up his victims and makes pies out of them plus he's singing-Sweeny Todd). I am a theatre goer but even if you are not it's a fascinating peek into Broadway and what makes it tick...and sometimes it's ticking is the prelude to a very large bomb. Fun read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Audience pleaser!
If you are looking for a script for regional theatre that is an audience-pleaser, look no further. I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change romps happily through the modern mating game, from dating to marriage, to children, and all that comes after. It's a collection of funny scenes, punctuated with sometimes hilarious songs, so actors get to jump from one wildly different character to another.

I just got my copy of the vocal score of Sondheim's "Passion" and I should say it is a Broadway collector's joy to have one of these. The entire book contains all the music, lyrics, and underscores. An average pianist may find it quite difficult to play the music but when played by an expert it makes it sound almost as if you're playing the entire orchestra!Anyone who loves collecting Broadway music definitely wouldn't want to miss owning a copy of this fabulous musical. This goes better together with the script which is also available from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pass Another Helping of Porter, Please!
As a child and beyond, I soaked up pop song lyrics that have remained cruelly fixed in memory and apparently ineradicable. Too often (and mysteriously) some snatch of what is most often retro and regrettable will surface. This can be highly annoying, as will be clear to those who've heard one of those appalling 1950s clunkers like "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" and finds that it periodically and mysteriously lays siege to their consciousness. Such bizarre "Many Splendored" lyrics as, "Then your fingers touched my silent heart and taught it how to sing" may then infest one's head for days.

At first, this item was advertised as the complete book and MUSIC of Hairspray, but I should have known that would not be available for purchase.I expected at least a couple songs of the music, not just the lyrics, because of the advertisement. Really pay attention to every specific word before you order anything.

Hairspray can only be described as a big HUGE bubble of joy that pops off of the stage and into your lap. It also includes cute and colorful pictures of the Original Broadway Cast.
