5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening and highly recommended!
To say that this book will reveal you a lot about the inner lives of people would be an underestimation. It goes even beyond that and allows you to connect with the others, to feel their happiness, sadness, triumph and depression. "Postsecret" gave me so many aha experiences that may compare only with the secrets which I learnt from the bestseller "scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". People have secrets for very good reasons and once you learn some of them you get an (unfair) advantage over the others. It is hard to predict what will be your reaction to the secrets revealed in this book but I am sure that it will leave a lasting impression in you just as every bold and highly valuable book does. "Postsecret" is one of the few books that may change your life and I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank, You've Done Something Amazing.
My dad bought me this book because I made him go to the PostSecret Exhibit in Reading, Pa. He didn't know what it was going into and after seeing the exhibit and reading the book, he left in complete tears. This book is wonderful because it's like re-visiting the exibit over and over again. There is something very powerful about how reading other peoples secrets makes you realize how you are not alone. This is a book of humanity. So worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The kind of book that reminds you what it's like to be human
I love this book.I love this project.I've been a fan of the website for awhile, and am glad many of the postcards have been published in book form. This is the type of art project that reminds you of the pain and beauty in humanity. You're also glad that there are other people out there in the world going through some of the same things that you are.Amazing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Now I understand the private Hepburn
I could never understand why Kate Hepburn would be so in love with a weak, drunk like Tracy. I never thought he could act.He just played his bully self again and again. It never made sense what was his deep guilt that made him drink. Now we know he drank because he was gay and could not cope.Very detailed when and with whom by the author.Explains how their relationship fit both their needs. At least 100 pages of footnotes, names, names.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great, enjoyable read and a must have for Kate collections!
The first thing I look for in any book is a great storytelling style; one that makes me want to turn the pages and leaves me happy that I bought the book. William Mann's story of Katherine Hepburn is certainly that kind of read. Enjoyable, witty and well researched. Never stiff or boring, he asks the questions that other bios have seemed to tip-toe around. What exactly were Ms Heburn's relationships like and with whom? There are tidbits of Kate's childhood that I found fascinating as well as tales of that old-guard Hollywood machine we know as the "Golden Age".
4-0 out of 5 stars The Private Affairs and Staunchly Maintained Public Persona of Kate the Great
That Katharine Hepburn was consciously defining and redefining her feisty, self-reliant persona for the purposes of public endearment and career longevity would seem to be an understatement, according to film historian William J. Mann's new biography of the legendary actress. The contrast between this specifically deliberate image and her private self, in particular, her love life, is the focus of the book. However, instead of the expected gossipy, posthumous dismantling of Hepburn, the author takes a more sobering look at what motivated her to maintain this dichotomy throughout her life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent content but a very unwieldy format
I have now watched 2001, Clockwork Orange, and the Shining with this on my coffee table.Inevitably, I find myself looking thumbing through the book instead of paying attention to the movie. The content is great, with the perfect balance between tech-nerd info, lit-nerd info, and art-nerd info.I have particularly enjoyed the magazine interviews with Kubrick, since his attempts to explain himself were few and far between. That and, of course, the 2001 print, which I cherish like a relic.
5-0 out of 5 stars amzing
this is the perfect way to get to know perfectly Kubrick's ideas of his films. With fotos and texts real kubrick's fans are going to be amazed by this book that was done very carefully.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the weight (and price)
While Kubrick has been gone for years, his films remain a testatment to how good and how diverse the work of a single director can be.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Welcome to 1962!"
It's almost 45 years since Sally uttered this rather sarcastic prophecy to Linus after he filled her ears with tales of the Great Pumpkin (much of this story featured here in The Complete Peanuts Volume 6 would later make its way in It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown). The cartoons in this anthology would be featured in Holt paperbacks such as We're On Your Side, Charlie Brown, You Can't Win, Charlie Brown, Snoopy Come Home and You Can Do It, Charlie Brown.Other cartoons featured here would include one of the 1st Beethoven birthday parties hosted by Schroeder (featured on the cover of this volume), though one year he'd forget Beethoven's birthday and sink into a deep depression and would resign as catcher in order to devote more time to practicing his piano ("You're what?!" asks a devastated Charlie Brown, several times). Also, a new character named Frieda would make her debut. She was known for her vanity ("How do you like my naturally curly hair?") and harrassing Snoopy ("Why aren't you chasing rabbits?").She would later get a cat to spite Snoopy, whose attitude towards cats is typical of any dog "Cats are the crabgrass in the lawn of modern life!"Also, one of the great characters you never saw in person is mentioned quite a bit in the Van Pelt household- Linus's blanket hating grandma!Linus defends his blanket after being teased by Violet and Patty ("I am the Count Dracula of Transylvania!") and takes the brunt by a disappointed Sally after a night of sitting in the pumpkin patch. In 1962, he'd be featured wearing glasses, which Snoopy would often steal, along with his blanket. He and Charlie Brown are best buddies, though Charlie Brown doesn't share his beliefs in the Great Pumpkin and they get in an argument when Charlie Brown reveals to Linus that Miss Othmar gets paid for teaching (imagine the shock and depression when Linus discovers Charlie Brown is right!).He pulls a fast one on big sister Lucy, congratulating her for being crabby at him every day for over a year.Charlie Brown has trouble flying a kite (he almost buys a kite until Lucy preaches to him how cruel that would be to the kite!) and is bereaved when his baseball hero Joe Shlabotnik is sent to the minors (he stays loyal to his baseball hero, for the "blockhead" knows quite well the agony of defeat). He is given his own t-shirt which reads "Manager" and will not call off a ballgame just because of rain (Linus erects a wooden shade to protect him) and this is one of the only times his team wins a game! But he takes a chance on stealing home and slide as he might, he doesn't make it and becomes the goat again.Lucy gives some advice for free "The sooner you forget about it, the sooner everybody else will.Good night, goat!"Shermy says "Well, Charlie Brown, there a lots of pills we must swallow."Charlie Brown says he'd rather cancel his prescription!Charlie Brown admits he wishes he could be known as "Flash" Brown! The Van Pelts get a pool table and the entire Peanuts gang gets upset when their mothers spend more time playing pool than taking care of them.Sally is thrilled to get her own library card, gets frustrated with jumpropes and fears entering Kindergarten.Lucy is still Lucy, crabby to Linus ("Am I buttering too loud for you?")and Charlie Brown("AUUUUGH!"), she's hopelessly in love with Schroeder (painfully, too, since he often yanks the piano away from her head!) though admittedly the "fussbudget" knows nothing about his hero Beethoven after the Beethoven shindig and offers advice for anyone who has 5 cents (quite often good ol' wishy washy Charlie Brown).Snoopy's imagination still runs wild as he makes friends with a snowman who melts before his eyes and imitates a ferocious vulture, much to the chagrin of the Peanuts gang.As you can guess, Snoopy is less than thrilled with rabbit chasing (he'd rather make friends with them) and the prototype of Woodstock is featured here (though it'd be 8 years before he'd be introduced by name). The beagle gets a turkey as a Christmas present and reflects "Happiness is a thoughtful friend!"Also, look forward to an intro by Diana Krall, who like Schroeder, is an accomplished pianist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waiting eagerly...
This series is going to be a regular drain on my bank balance for the coming decade, as that is how long it is going to take Fantagraphics to finish publsihing this collection, if they stick to their published schedule.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide with great strategies
I think this guide is a must-have for anyone seeking to venture into the dungeons *currently* in the game. The information goes well beyond the maps you have in the Atlas addon by providing details for quest lines and boss loot tables. The strategies alone make the book a worthwhile purchase. Those written for high level raids such as Blackwing Lair and Ahn Qiraj were developed by actual players -- and they work! This book is much loved by the people in my guild.

The Complete Peanuts is definitely complete! It's a real collectors' item! Hats off to Fantagraphics Books for initiating such an ambitious project though their release schedule (releasing only two books every year - it will take twelve and a half years before the entire collection is published) leaves one frustrated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Practically Worthless
If it didn't have a short precis of each mission, then it would be completely worthless. I was looking for something more along the lines of one of Andy Herd's FSX reviews found at Flightsim website. And Andy's reviews are free!I paid over $20 for this waste of time and paper.Does the writer, Bart G. Farkas, really think people buying this manual are looking to find out the basics of how a plane stays aloft? We wanted the FSX secrets, the down & dirty stuff that only a collaborator with the programmers could have written. What we got was a 2nd grade book report on the very basics of aviation.Save your money, or review a copy before purchasing. You've been warned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fledglin
Although the reviewers of October 14, 2006 rated this FSX Guide very poorly. they have inadvertently strengthened the product by giving a very useful and informative errata to the Guide. We applaud their specificity. We also look forward to an immediate, upgraded corrected FSX Guide from Prim Game Guides.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
There are many typographical errors.Even worse, the airspeed info is often inaccurate. For example, on page 107, the Boeing 737-800 is listed with a cruising speed of 477 kt but when you read the next line it states that the maximum speed is 147 kt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential book for those interested in jazz theory.
Mark Levine's "Jazz Theory Book" is an important resource for anyone interested in learning jazz harmony, in a complete fashion. Most books on jazz theory leave some things out, or don't explain something fully, forcing the player the buy another book to try to fill the holes. This book covers all the bases and the concepts can be applied to any instrument (reading music is necessary).
3-0 out of 5 stars A decent reference book for jazz
This book is loaded with pretty much all the information a jazz player needs for good improvisation. The writing is understandable if you have decent knowledge of music and are patient enough to read some parts over more than once.If you are looking to work on jazz theory, this is probably the right book to start with.
5-0 out of 5 stars Understandable
This book is very understandable. It assumes that you have a general understanding of music theory. From there it takes you through a very clear sequence of concepts specific to jazz. It's very clear and offers lots of examples and suggestions for practice and approach. An excellent book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Have motorcycle...Will Travel
I just finished reading Roadshow:Landscape With Drums:A concert tour by Motorcycle and loved it from cover to cover!! It is what it is. A written visual discription of life on the road after 30 long years of touring out of a suitcase, town after town, city after city , country after country year in and year out!All I did was buy the new album every year,go to the show every year(33 at present)go home and go to work the next day! I could not do what Neil,Geddy or Alex has done for 2112 days straight!!!The book is a true account of what Neil enjoys in this stage of his complicated life and spoken wonderfully from a very unique private person.Neil,Thank you for the memories and look forward to the next book!

3-0 out of 5 stars A curmudgeon's diatribe with drums
While I was looking forward to reading this book, I couldn't overlook the nagging feeling in my gut that Neil Peart would fill hundreds of pages with a lot of whining, crabbing and irritation at the fact that he has to actually put in a grueling three hour work day every other day. What I found most enjoyable were his observations about the scenery and locales he visited, particulary in Europe. (The Skibo Castle description was ornate and engaging.) But there was just too much bitching from this misanthrope millionare. The fact that he can't deal with fans who have allowed him to live a life of leisure and luxury is ridiculous. Sure, there are some nuts out there, but this guy needs to show more appreciation for his audience. And heaven forbid that Geddy should want to add one song to the set for the European leg of the tour--Neil freaked out on him like a spoiled child. There's no doubt that Neil Peart has prodigious talent with the pen, but he needs serious help in the social skills department. Of course, I don't need to like a writer at all to enjoy what he writes, but when the two are joined at the hip in a biography, it's certainly going to effect my impression of the work.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book!
The book read as advertised- a travelogue of motorcycle riding between gigs. Those who are looking for inside Rush info, etc. from Neil should know better- the man is rightfully tight-lipped about private matters, and we, even as fans and patrons of his art, have no right to such info. Nor should we have any expectation of such info. To write negatively about his book because he is guarded about some matters comes across as childish to me. Having said that, it's a great book, and as a fellow motorcyclist (BMW R1100 RT) it's a pleasure to read books about the subject. ... Read more

Being an avid fan of Fox & Friends already, having watched it for years & years, when I knew Steve was writing a book - first thing I thought, this will be a smash hit! Editorial Review

Economics is not widely considered to be one of the sexier sciences. The annual Nobel Prize winner in that field never receives as much publicity as his or her compatriots in peace, literature, or physics. But if such slights are based on the notion that economics is dull, or that economists are concerned only with finance itself, Steven D. Levitt will change some minds. In Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fluff and Nonsense
The underlying theme of this book seems to be that if one can come up with enough provocative theses and find some support, however tenuous, for them, perhaps one can write a thin, light weight book which will attract attention and thereby gain one's 15 minutes of fame.
3-0 out of 5 stars Compelling, but superficial arguments
The storytelling and economic science are the backbone of this compelling book and the scattered topics aren't enough to minimize Levitt's or Dubner's effort. The superficiality of the ideas is, however, and the wild concepts that the self-proclaimed freakonomist advances are easily put to question by simple thought experiments. For instance, the most controversial proposition that Levitt makes is that the legalization of abortion in the '70s was the single most important factor in the steep decline of crime in the US in the '90s, and that can be scrutinized easily.Levitt says that the people who would have been born to those mothers in the '70s would have gone on to live lives of the unwanted and been more likely to commit crimes in their late teens and early twenties (the '90s).Since millions were aborted, they weren't there to commit those crimes later. This eerie idea may be hard to stomach, but that's not the reason it should be doubted. If the aborted children would have a higher chance of becoming criminals, they would, no doubt, also have a higher chance of becoming poor, but the poverty rates for people above 18 remained relatively stable through the '80s and since.

3-0 out of 5 stars Witty
Whatever possessed a girl to openly admit she had a lot of one night stands, never mind write a book about it, is beyond me. Although it's witty, it's clever, it's eye-opening, it's just a bit about stuff you don't wanna know? It's all a bit too much information. But the first chapter is really shocking, Chelsea Handler says that the reason she never got into a serious relationship was because she was dared $5 by her older sister to take a photo of their mum & dad. Together. Ewwwwwwwww!!! It probably scarred her for life!
5-0 out of 5 stars She's my best girlfriend!
I received this book as a birthday present and forgot about it at first. A month or so later I read the first page and was hooked. It was as if I was sitting in a bar drinking straight vodka, so I wouldn'tgain weight, of course, while Handler, my best girlfriend, told me about her latest romp in the bedroom.

All the poker pros write books, they don't read them.Play poker, develop your own style.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, w/room for minor improvements.
I own the previous 2 Harrington Volumes along with this and had read and enjoyed them thoroughly. Improved my game immensly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Companion To Harrington I& II
Harrington on Hold 'em Volume III: The Workbook is a wonderful companion book to the 2 prior classics written by "Action" Dan.Providing 50 examples of real hands played by pros and online tournaments and sit n' gos, this book takes everything that you should have learned in the other 2 books and sees how well you have understood and applied the material that he has taught. The writing is just as smooth and easy to follow as in the precursor gems, quality being of the utmost concern.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
This will take your no limit tournament game to a new level!I would recommed to anyone who plays NLH tournaments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gook NLHE Book
This book describes Harrington's NLHE tournament play. While his explainations are easy to understand, I found his style hard to play in real life. All the tips and a pro's insight make this book a worthwhile buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Bible" for tournaments
"Action" Dan may not have won WSOP titles lately, but he seems to hit a lot of final tables. Clearly his tight aggressive style, documented in this (and the prequel) book is a good reason why.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Frustrating
"The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" is a difficult book to rate. Vicki Iovine's honesty and sense of humor about pregnancy deserves 5 stars. If you find pregnancy difficult for even a moment, this book will be a great comfort to you.It is a delightful antidote to the dry, frightening pregnancy books that flood the market.

Editorial Review

David Sedaris became a star autobiographer on public radio, onstage in New York, and on bestseller lists, mostly on the strength of "SantaLand Diaries," a scathing, hilarious account of his stint as a Christmas elf at Macy's. (It's in two separate collections, both worth owning, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Caution, this book will make you laugh....hard.
I reread this recently and I laughed as much as I did the first time I read it.David Sedaris is quite a national treasure even though most people don't know who he is!His writing is wonderful, poignant, sentimental and hilarious. The man knows how to write well and you can tell he continues to love his craft.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out alive.
David Sedaris just might be the funniest man alive.
5-0 out of 5 stars Me tAlK PRettY ONe DAY
"I know the thing that you speak exact now. Talk me more, you, plus, please, plus," Says David Sedaris, "talking pretty" in his book, Me tAlK PRettY ONe DAY. (page 173) The quote above is from a story about the absurdities of taking French lessons. The book is a collection of funny memoirs about such awful experiences as speech therapy in elementary school, his father forcing him to take guitar lessons from a midget and moving to France and not being able to speak French. Most of the stories center around his bizarre siblings and parents, including his obsessively swearing brother Paul, his alcoholic, chain-smoking mom and his drama-obsessed sister Amy. As the book progresses the stories take place later in his life and follow him into adulthood. We see him growing older but still being the same timid, disturbed outsider. While this book is not part of a series, David Sedaris has written many other humor books like it, such as Naked, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice.
