4-0 out of 5 stars terrific lampooning of the genre
THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE is a terrific lampooning of the genre as Max Brooks (with illustrator Max Werner) warns people to take these attacks seriously or else within twenty-three hours be dead and reanimated as a slow limping creature (that is why they instinctively hunt in packs).Mr. Brooks provides a historical perspective over the millenniums of documented Zombie attacks and what to do and more important not to do when the real judgment day occurs as the dead rise to increase their ranks.Filled with tips on combat (if a choice flight rather than fight), key supplies (two pairs of socks), and how not to lose loved ones to a Zombie.Readers will find this an amusing satire on survival, horror movies and books, and George Romero as obviously Max squared have insider information that a zombie traitor must have leaked, but the humor holds up better by reading small bites over time.
4-0 out of 5 stars F**KING BRILLIANT!!!
I expected to be disappointed with this book . . . but it is destined to be a classic! And when I read the section on "zombie outbreaks throughout history," it was written so convincingly that I actually did a series of Google searches to see what came up!Apparently, the guvmint has suppressed all mention of these events . . . .
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read.
This book is a wonderful piece of fiction. I hesitate to really call it "humor", because while I find it amusing that the book is presented as deathly serious, it doesn't really make me laugh while reading it. Rather, I think this book is just well-designed as a no-nonsense guide to living through a Zombie attack. Perhaps the best thing about the book is that it advises you NOT to be a hero, it warns against trying to take on hordes of undead. It tells you to be reasonable; avoid confrontation unless necessary. It treats its reader as an average suburbanite.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yiddish with the WASP Family
This follow up to Yiddish with Dick and Jane takes another step in doing something different - putting Yiddish words into the mouths of George Bush and family, a well-known WASP crew. In Yiddish with George and Laura, the Bush clan gathers to celebrate Bar (Barbara Bush) and Poppy's (George) birthdays with a few adventures on the way.
5-0 out of 5 stars a fabulous gift
What a wonderful, warm laugh I got when I received this book as a gift. I recommend it to anyone and everyone that is interested in the nuances of Yiddish as used to describe our embarrassing White House leadership! The artwork is fantastic, and I must say we are still laughing about it. Great gift!
4-0 out of 5 stars If you have a sense of humor!
The authors of Yiddish with Dick and Jane have written another equally humorous book, Yiddish with George and Laura.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!! It might save your life.
This is a slightly edited copy of mail I sent to Andy Borowitz. I seriously needed and loved this book. Please take a chance and buy it. As I said, above, it might save your life. Or at least your mental health!
5-0 out of 5 stars It's not really a play ...
but it is a tragicomedy. The manipulation and betrayal of American voters may not seem hilarious, but Borowitz shows us humor galore there.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sharp Satire Shocker!
Andy Borowitz is a genius of political satire! I ordered "The Republican Playbook" and Frank Rich's "The Greatest Story Ever Sold" at the same time. One is fiction, one is non-fiction. One makes me laugh, one makes me cry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
Funniest book I've read in a long time, had me laughing aloud through a flight from Boston to Dublin.

1-0 out of 5 stars What? Is this supposed to be funny?
Another east coast know it all making fun of the things Americans hold dear, even 9-11.
1-0 out of 5 stars First book I could not listen past the first CD and even that was difficult
I have listened to 15-20 audio books during the past year and this was definitely the worst and perhaps the only bad buy I have had. There is no humor here.I was looking for ideas and styles of telling jokes since I do many keynote talks at conferences but I found nothing here except a style to avoid. What a bunch of totally worthless crap this is.Unless, you are teaching a course on how to generate creative names for things, I would pretty much say pass on this one.The people who like this book must sure be patient or have nothing better to do with their lives, since I had difficultly listening past the introduction.I got through the first CD and could not stand anymore.I tried to put the next CD in to have a go, but by mind kept telling me not to.I am spending more time writing this review than this book deserves. If I was the publisher of this book, I would be embarrassed. If I was Jonathan (John Hodgman's friend), I would be embarrassed too.Stop yourself from buying this book. Please!

3-0 out of 5 stars Why are readers taking this books to heart, it's a book, written by an Fictional Person!
We have to remember that this is fiction, just as Terry Perry Movies and Plays.I feels it's to make you think, laugh and draw your own conclusion.Instead of picking out things that you did not enjoy, try picking out things that were good about the book, that made you think. Many times you may read something that isn't entertaining to you, but entertaining to others. In purchasing this book, you have to remember that Madea is a man in women clothing, and accept it for what it is, entertainment.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Humorous, very insightful, a great Book for all Women, no matter their race!
Personally, I had to lower my expectations after finishing this book, but it is still getting 5 stars because, as it states Madea is a fictional character and so you take it as it's meant to be, to make you look at your life and maybe see things differently, that's all, and also 5 stars for making me laugh at subjects that can be painful truths to that many of us woman don't even want to think about too deeply, let alone face up to and change.I loved the witty repartee, I liked the matter-of-fact style of Madea! If you are reading this as if it were a non-fictional self-help, instead of the inspirational and uplifting Bit of humor blended with "let's-get-real" truth that it is, you might be a very disappointed.Tyler Perry did a fantastic job of recounting the age-old Black Woman's wisdom on many private subjects we women all discuss and also of making ALL WOMAN, no matter their race, see that we need to stick together and that no matter what life brings your way, keep Laughing! I look forward to another book from the beloved Madea.Great Job, Tyler Perry! Great Job!

4-0 out of 5 stars for nice guys hoping to change their situation
I read this book as a beginning text, and I think it's useful for those people who are lulled into the 'nice guy phenomenon' who are a bit naive/overly idealistic about romantic situations and who need a good kick of machiavellianism up the rear. It's emphasis is on the later years (ie past 25), and takes a topic that's very difficult and gives it a comedic twist.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I ever read
Very funny and very true.... A guide that should be followed by every man if they want to survive in this world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handle with care!
This isn't just another book about some jerk trying to get a girl. It's about dealing with women and had this funny, tongue-in-cheek thing going for it. I have to say that I did crack up a few times while I was reading it. (I am sure this was the author's intention.) Can you take it seriously? Sure and that's why I recommend it, along with "Get Laid Now!". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must read
I must say, we had a real laugh over this hilarious book. Davilman and Weiner have a wry wit, and it was not wasted on our household. We are still laughing about this book, and its funny sequel Yiddish with George and Laura.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yiddish With Dick and Jane
This book was an absolute joy to read.Seeing the Yiddish words in print & used in the proper context brought back warm childhood memories of my grandparents. How cleverly it was done as I'm sure everyone remembers Dick & Jane and who would have ever thought to put a Yiddish twist on one of the oldest primary readers known to mankind?

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny
The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love is a fun, easily read little book. It is about being a woman, and it is about making most of life. It is about love, life, men, marriage and being prepared as it says on the cover of the book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fresh and laugh out loud funny
This was a great book.I thoroughly enjoyed it.Gotta love a tarnished Southern Belle. The author gets a bit risque with language but I didn't find its use offensive.I would heartily recommend this book to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Did I Miss Something Here, Y'All?
Maybe I grew up on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon line (that would be north of Jackson, Mississippi) to appreciate the humor in this book, but I didn't find it all that funny. With the exception of a few ancedotes this book was disappointing and did not live up to the rave reviews I'd heard about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Get for any Robot Lover
I loved this book. It is a good light, funny read. It gives alot of insight in regards to current technology and lets you know what is out there in response to robot hardware/software. Some parts were flat out funny and other informative. I thought it was a great book for anyone interested in robots and technogoly and where we are going. I also loved the cover of it which is a shiny, glossy eye-catching cover. One I enjoyed.

2-0 out of 5 stars A really, really, light read
A fun read, but you'll finish it in under an hour and it doesn't really lend itself to a re-read. Even the pictures are more glance at them once then move on icons than bits of art you'll ponder for more than a second.
3-0 out of 5 stars Finally, there is something we can do!
It has eluded us throughout the postmodern era, but here at last is the common enemy against which all of the good people of the world may finally unite -- in flight. Read it and weep (with tears of laughter).

5-0 out of 5 stars rewriting parenting rules
aprils teenage years are forcing the patersons to rewrite the rules they have relied on for so long in regards for their parenting. The greated media threat to april's brother and sister was Mtv and keeping them from watching it was probably a simple task compared to what they are faced with April. Outside influences once thought to stop at the front door are easily accesable through the computer and satellite TV and the reality of how unsafe society has become. Face it, we all have a real fear of someone so desperate to kidnap a child they will break in to a locked home. Their fear has forced them to keep April within their sphere of influence evenif it means she has to work at the store along side her mom, something Elly never had to even think about when Micheal and Elizabeth were April's age. This book, even though its humor, is a brilliant editorial on the radical adjustments parents are making in their lives with the onslaught of the radical changes in our society.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you mean April's turning into a BRATZ DOLL, why not?
Seems like all the young girls in the sweetsy comic strip are slowly turning into idealized supermodels lately. Even the blonde rugrat, Meredith, who seems to have inherited big, fat Angelina Jolie lips from her equally blonde mommy. And now ALL the nubile-aged females are ALSO developing these famous lips, Elizabeth and April included.
4-0 out of 5 stars Another winner by Lynne Johnston
I adore this comic strip. It has been wonderful to see the whole family grow up before our eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Like Roots, Only White"
That description from one of the opening chapter headings is a good indication of what's in store! This book is a roller coaster ride from humor so subtle and intuitive that you conclude that the authors are actually channeling Bush to wit so ascerbic and wickedly funny that you cringe in puritan guilt while laughing so hard that tears roll.I loved the forward "by" Dick Cheney. He ends his remarks with those similar to ones he has made on the floor of the Senate (anyone remember that?).The audio book is also really entertaining, with loads of added sketches and gags narrated by the voice of Bush from [...].If we cant' be rid of this bunch, at least we can laugh through the next (painful) 2+ years!

5-0 out of 5 stars A little too true to life
Obviously, if you're a fan of the weekly satire at weeklyradioaddress.com, then this book is for you. But the book succeeds on its own (lack of) merits, and while it's clear some people will call it mean for the stuff on Laura, that's probably the funniest part of the book. Why has Laura been off-limits? Hillary, Nancy, Rosalyn sure weren't. I think people are overprotective because they feel a little bit sorry for her...
2-0 out of 5 stars a disappointment
I had hopes for this book. The Onion can be very witty and amusing

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
If you have any sort of a sense of humor whatsoever, you must get this book.Jack Handey is one of the most hilarious people alive! You may already be familiar with Handey's work, his work was featured on Saturday Night Live some years back. These are great to memorize and randomly quote throughout the day.I love this book, I've read it a bunch of times, and it's always funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavenly
A great break from school-related/work-related readings. Jack Handey is a genius and he will take you away from your problems--whatever they may be. I always read this book when I am upset about anything...I post the quotes around my house too. Funnier than comics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Dictators in Training
Though this book offers little practical advice you couldn't figure out yourself, it's an interesting read. I enjoyed the profiles of famous Dictators and rulers and witty humor of Guillaume. He offers advice on how to get your own political coup and which advisors you should eliminate to avoid conspiracies. This is a neat book to have, if not simply for the novelty of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Information For Anyone But Me To Know
Cute. Good for laughs. When The Great Revolution comes, Mr. Guillaume will either become People's Minister of Truth or be among the first they'll stand against the wall.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lame
Not funny and not interesting. Don't bother with it! Your better off watching the history chanel. ... Read more
