2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought
This book is cute. It is more of a coffee table book for a young girl's room. I did not realize that it just listed off quotes to "live by". It is formatted with like a "rule" on each page.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this lil' book!
If you're a gal who is looking for a good man and finds herself meeting all the wrong fellas, then this is the book for you. It's an eye-opening pick me up kind of read! Will make you realize that you deserve nothing but the best and that you, as a gal, are fabulous! You'll find yourself reading it over and over again. I find it to be enlightening every time I read it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute "Little" Book
This is a cute book for a teenager.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Funniest!
I just got this for my birthday and it's the funniest thing I've ever received - including my Happy Bunny flip chart. You can't go wrong with this gift for yourself or any of your friends!

5-0 out of 5 stars Therapeutic reading!
This is great, and the greatest surprise is that it is written by two MEN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Side-Splittingly Hilarious
A few months ago, my husband and I were in a chain bookstore. I don't know who picked up this gem first (I think it was him!), but next thing you know, we were flipping through the pages and laughing our butts off! I was laughing so hard I had to walk away...and then came back for more. Honest to God, I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to black out.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Than a Feeling
Many of us can remember our first kiss, our first day of school, even our first memories. But what about the instant you knew you were gay?In a sleek softbound coffee table book titled When I Knew, Robert Trachtenberg has assembled a brilliant collection of anecdotes and short tales surrounding this very topic.
5-0 out of 5 stars WHEN I KNEW
I purchased this book (because) whilst visiting some friends noticed it on their coffee table. Not wanting to be rude and sit and read the whole book whilst there.
4-0 out of 5 stars a bit old
maybe its because i am a early twentie something kind of guy, but i thought that most of the articles and quotes in here were a bit old a lot of the things were over my head, refering to childhood in the 60 and 70's or earlier i think that that is great and needs to be out there but there should be a sequal of more recent events if you are in the age group that grew up during that tiem you will love it. the images were great ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I ever bought
This book, although amzingly funny, is actually quite insightful and informative. A must buy for anyone involved in today's chaotic dating world

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific, Light-Hearted View of Dating.
Very funny, light hearted book from the Survival Series. Great conversation starter!
4-0 out of 5 stars It's meant to be FUNNY, people!
The biggest draw of this series of books is their humor. Is some of the advice useful? Sure it is! Is some of it absolutely outlandish? OF COURSE! (My favorite example of outlandish advice is actually found in the Parenting handbook in the section on saving for your child's college fund.)

Yet another forum for the author to rehash the "good old days" give her wannabes their 15 minutes of fame.I don't understand why someone who is an inspirational speaker and talented writer would travel this path.

5-0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS
I bought this book for my boyfriend. It's quite entertaining even with the thing still missing =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift!
I gave this to my son on his 18th birthday. Since we never had "the talk" I figured this would at least help him figure stuff out. He's been in his room for 3 days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise For Pokey
This is the best birthday present I've received in years! The perfect momentary respite from this depressing world of political correctness, feminist recrimination, masculine guilt and penile nullification. This "interactive" book of inspired lunacy has thankfully reminded me of my best friend's "special purpose" - to make me and mine happy sometimes! I hope there are yearly sequels. My wife intends to start an annual photo album to document the "inner man" only she knows. Cheers to the cockeyed savant who made this happen! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An ideal shower gift
My husband bought this for me right after our daughter was born. It offered me a few much-needed moments of laughter in what was occasionally a very intense and overwhelming time. I especially love the part about what it's like the first time you try to get your baby to the pediatrician's office.

2-0 out of 5 stars expected more cynicism
Being a fan of Angry Little Girls, I thought this would be an amazing calendar with lots of sarcastic remarks. While there were a few months that did use such headings, for the most part it was verging on corny. Example: March states "Anything is possible!"

2-0 out of 5 stars Steals ideas from older sources - unoriginal
Steals ideas from Margaret Cho, Kathy Griffin, and other popular comedians. Not original. That said, several of the comic strips hit the funny bone and made me laugh out loud - which is why I bought this book from Borders at a 30% discount, making it just a dollar higher than the price offered here on Amazon which remains the low price LEADER (Rah, Rah!).

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is A Cool Book
Fifty years worth of cartoons from Playboy. Doesn't that just set the mind reeling? Some of the biggest names in the business have their work showcased here in this history-making compendium. These cartoons are sometimes funny, often sardonic, frequently risqué, and one and all they once graced the pages of the world's favorite source of "illustrated" reading material. Perhaps the best way to regard this hefty collection (did you catch the pun?) is as a window to the changing mores of American society regarding not only women and sex, but what is and is not acceptable subject matter for a cartoon itself. When taken as a whole I find this material reflective of how much times have changed, and Playboy magazine with it. Very little to offend anyone here, just good clean fun and some real laughs too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fifty years of fun.
It's nice to see a book of coffee-table proportions just devoted to cartoons, well why not?Previous Playboy books have covered the history of the magazine, the delightful Playmates and now the cartoons. The 450 plus illustrations are the work of 107 cartoonists and if you are a regular reader of the magazine you'll see your favorites.Gahan Wilson has the most (thirty-two) followed by regulars like Eldon Dedini, John Demsey, Alden Erikson, Kiraz, Roy Raymonde, Doug Sneyd (he of the flamboyant signature, which I was never able to decipher until now) Erich Sokol and between these, dozens of great artists who have maybe one or two works each. The humor might not be the wonderful ironic style of the New Yorker but it is amazing how many fresh takes can be created with the bachelor lifestyle.4-0 out of 5 stars Not enough Yeagle !!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reinforcement tool
This book is quite funny and can be revisited whenever you need a reminder about what is important in life, I had a good chuckle over the P.Diddy comment.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great light read
Don't get too excited, it's ment to be sarcastic. For those of you who know much about how to not ruin your life, this book wittingly reminds you that you're lucky to know such things. And for the young person still in school or learning their way into the world, this book might just be more convincing to get your act together then a prechy self-help book. Just don't forget to look for other books that might be more helpful in a more serious way after you put this one down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Enjoy the Simple Things in Life
"Ignore life's little pleasures.Don't take pleasure in a child's smile.Don't enjoy a sunset.Don't take pleasure out of a simple but well-cooked meal. For you, things have to be elaborate, intricate, and incomprehensibly grand to make sense. So just gloss over a friendly smile from a clerk or a pat on the back from a friend.Go for the big stuff. And if you can't get it, be miserable about the fact that the world has cheated its only deity...again."

5-0 out of 5 stars Best use of the term "private members" in a patterns book
OK, when I saw this under the tree I thought that the Gang had a new little workbook deal out or something, and then I saw that there was a silhouette of a naked woman on the front and that it was very very doubtful that this was going to help me figure out distributed programming. But at that point I didn't care anymore and it is now officially my favorite gift.Applies the rules of patterns (strategies, refactorings, all that) to dating and it's hilarious. Definitely a kick for anyone with even remotely geeky tendencies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Way more fun than regular patterns
It's like the Gang of Four had a little too much to drink (or something) at a National Lampoon party and went home and wrote a sequel. I think my favorite pattern is goTo guy, which is prefaced with a note that the article "GoTo Considered Harmful" doesn't apply to dating patterns. Haven't tried any of the patterns since my SO disapproves strongly of multithreading.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is hilarious
I don't know what kind of mind is so into patterns that they come out the other end with this book, but the result is very funny. You need to be a geek to get it, but if you do it's definitely worth it. It's a satire of patterns and of some fairly leading figures in the computer industry. Basically the authors say that the Gang of Four came up with these dating patterns in college: Trojan Proxy, Interested Listener, Half Bad Boy Plus Protocol, Unexpected Persistence, Container-Managed Relationships, etc. Christopher Alexander was in on it, too, starting off kind of geeky and playing Dungeons and Dragons and going on to be a dating machine. 4-0 out of 5 stars Typical Ron
Ron White is a funny guy.I've seen him numerous times on the Blue Collar Comedy DVD's and I have his CDs and he always makes me laugh. When I started reading the book I realized that the material was stuff I'd already heard.Thankfully, as I read on I realized that it wasn't all old material. To fully appreciate Ron White, you need to see his live performance with his Texas twang and sipping scotch like it was spring water. The book is a quick read and for any Blue Collar Comedy fan, you'll love it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money
I have liked Ron on TV and DVD, but now I don't like him at all!He tells much too much about his life with drugs and how Foxworthy had to bail him out several times.I don't find that even slightly amusing.I never laughed the whole way through this book. What a waste of money! But, if you like totally disgusting foul language, you'll probably like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am laughing myself to death!

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Up for Uncle John's Latest!
I have been a fan of the Uncle John series since the very first Bathroom Reader came on the scene. The series is perfect fodder for trivia-craving minds like mine! I have especially enjoyed their "Plunges Into" books - Great Lives, History, etc.

Great book!Every person thinking of starting a flock should really read this book.My husband and I went through the same antics with our sheep, chickens and goats.Very truthful and easy reading. It gave me a better understanding of what I put my family through starting a farm.I really hope there will be a sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful Read!
Hit by a farm takes a charming, honest, enjoyable and insightful look at life on a farm for two women who have no farming experience.Author Catherine Friend takes the reader on a ride that for her and her partner, Melissa, was bumpy but for the reader is upbeat, interesting and informative.Librarians should add this to their collections, read it and talk it up to patrons. This would make a good book club selection as well. There is plenty to discuss. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Better Reading Moments with Competitors in this Genre Make Senior Moments Quite Forgettable!
If you've never read anything else in this genre before then this may suffice, but that are a lot better books out there covering stupid human actions such as Dumbest Criminals by Wendy Lewis, Hippo Eats Dwarf by Alex Boese or even the Darwin Awards trilogy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Momma Said There'd Be Days Like This
Tom Friedman's new book is just in time for...um, wait, I knew it a second ago...
