5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Blend of Over-the-top and Honest
The easiest way to determine if you should buy this book is to see if you like the blog (from which some 10 to 30% of the book is taken): http://anonymouslawyer.blogspot.com/ And be sure to read at least a month's worth of posts. Like all blogs, some posts are better than others. The book, however, is completely great.
1-0 out of 5 stars Reading this is a Waste of Time
The best thing that can be said is that the cover was not misleading when it said that the book was written in the blog manner.Just like most blogs, it rambles on, has little substantive content, no significant plot, is repetitive and never goes anywhere.Although the humor attempts may relate to adult situations, the style resembles what you would expect in a middle school writing assignment.
5-0 out of 5 stars So few modern authors succeed at satire, but, congratulations, Jeremy, you've done it!
Jeremy Blachman has spun a wickedly funny and outrageous story about life in a prominent Los Angeles corporate law firm. The boss in The Devil Wears Prada has nothing on our narrator, the Anonymous Lawyer, who serves as the hiring partner at his firm and has his sights firmly set on the Chairman position within the next decade. The reader gets an inside look at the motivations and desires of this evil partner, a man who despises his Anonymous Wife and her shopping habits, who disdains any lawyer who has more than the one allotted "outside interest," and who values profitability and career success above all else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jessica Jones -- Catalyst to Marvel's Past
One of BMB's strengths is the ability to make old characters who have previously been put out to pasture cool again. He did it with Luke Cage, 70's street-cred Hero for Hire.He did it with Jessica Drew, the first Spider-Woman (and to some small extent, Maddie Franklin, a newer incarnation of Spider-Woman).He even did it with Speedball, a wacky Steve Ditko creation.Hell, he even made Alan Quartermain cool! You'll find all these comeback characters in the pages of "Alias", detailing the adventures of Jessica Jones, an ex-superhero with origins firmly rooted in Silver Age storytelling.Along with the above-mentioned characters, you're treated to her friendship with Carol Danvers and her dating struggles with Scott Lang.
3-0 out of 5 stars In a nut shell.
ALIAS OMNIBUS HC by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. Jessica Jones was once a second rate costumed super-hero. Now she's chain-smoking, self-destructive, alcoholic. She's also Alias Investigations a one-woman private eye firm that specializes in superhuman cases. This volume collects entire 28 issue run of Bendis' acclaimed ALIAS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it in 2 days
Worth the $, lives up to the hype. If you need a comic in which a supervillian gets fubared every other page, this isn't for you. If you like excellent character development, excellent plot, excellent dialogue, great art, pick this up. One of the best books I've read from Marvel, also one of Bendis' best work. Again, not the normal formulaic stuff, this is really good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!!
While in the middle of some very stressful times, I was searching for some humor to lighten my days. Oh, how I found it with this book!! The satire and "political correctness" in this book are absolutely hilarious. If you don't have a sense of humor or cannot be cynical, don't read it. If you love a funny twist on everyday things or can laugh at cynacism, get a copy fast! Be forewarned, however, it's hard to put down and short enough to read in one or two sittings. Make the time to read it, you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Example of Society Today
To begin with, I am a middle school teacher and I love fairy tales. When I bought the book, I was just going to use it for a few laughs. However, I have used it in my classroom as an example for my students to see society has taken the our legal system just made a mess with it.The stories are humorous. My favorite was the one about Hansel and Gretel.Several of my friends have recently purchased the book and they absolutely love it.So, if you are a lover of fairy tales and you want a little twist.I recommend that you purchase this book.It has provided me with hours of enjoyment. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
Today, I've received two parcels from Amazon and in one of them, there was the "Yellow 4" manga by Makoto Tateno. Naturally, I had to read that one first, having read the previous three in the series. I was really looking forward to this one since the third volume ended with a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, the 4th volume rather disappointed me. I thought/hoped that it would be suspensive, touching, a little sad but that it would grip me from the first page. Nothing was farther from the reality :(
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Yaoi
I loved this whole series. If you're looking for a great story from a different point of view, here it is! ^_^ I just wish it was a longer series! If you like yaoi, you'll love Yellow!

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy cow, this is good stuff!
I was never much of a Dick Tracy fan, but this collection has made me take notice of the classic comic strip detective.Collecting January through December of 1978, this is the first full year written by Max Alan Collins (Road to Perdition) and drawn by creator Chester Gould's assistant Rick Fletcher. It brings Dick Tracy into the "modern era", but it doesn't give him or his cast a makeover.Tracy is up against multiple antagonists: an old foe who is losing his influence, the vengeful descendants of other old foes, and the nosy reporter who portrays him as a relic of a more violent time. Collins' plotting and storytelling will keep you on your toes, and Fletcher's artwork, while extremely faithful to Gould's quirky renderings, is very stylized and clean. The best part is how Collins and Fletcher work together to present a masterful example of pacing. This collection is an excellent example of the narrative style of the serialized comic strip.

5-0 out of 5 stars not a collins fan, but I totally recommend this book
I am not a fan of much of Max Allan Collins' work, but this book is a great exception. The reprints of the first three storylines that Collins wrote are very entertaining and make for an enjoyable read.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Japan's participatory journalism
Reading "Tabloid Tokyo" is sort of a chicken-and-egg scenario - is the country as peculiar as these stories let on...or are the stories more an outgrowth of Japan's hyper-aggressive "wild weekly" reporting? The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. One thing for sure: you'll be struck with the impression after breezing through this compilation that the brand of journalism practiced in this market segment is, ummm, "participatory."It is pointed out in the intro through, that "wild weekly" practices are light-years removed from the clubby, staid atmosphere of the mainstream, daily press. For someone who's been bored to tears by the Nikkei Shimbun and its brethren, this dichotomy is jarring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Panty Gazing Research Revealed!
There are two Japans, exemplified by the astir calm of the ancient temples of Nara and Kyoto, and the wild neon and easy sex of Kabukicho and Juso. Both of these worlds draw in their own particular breed of tourists and gawkers, and both are equally valuable and authentic culture. In advertising and photography however, the beautiful grace of Mt. Fuji is generally showcased over the exoticism of the Image Club, and one has too look a little harder to find the reverse side of the coin.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'll Bet You Didn't Know This
Everybody knows about Japan's manufacturing prowess. But I'll bet you didn't know that prowess extends to Dutch Wives, life-sized mannequins that substitute for the real thing. And the hard working Japanese salarimen are legion. But I'll bet you didn't know that they've raised goofing off to an art. The Mark Schreiber Gang of Four bring the one-dimensional Japan we usually get in English publications to a land of,...well, real people, very much like you and me. And in their own words rewritten sideways. Will you be surprised? Yep, sometimes. Will you be titillated? Yep, sometimes. Will you be skeptical. Yep, sometimes. Will you be entertained? You bet. Everytime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't kill the lawyers
As a long-time practitioner, I thought that I'd heard all of the lawyer jokes.5-0 out of 5 stars Outrageously Funny and Poignant
My book is so dog-eared it is almost twice as thick as the original! The book is replete with short exchanges that reveal human foible, skewer pomposity and give solid evidence to the all-to-common, yet painful, truth of living in a society where the law is an essential ingredient to necessary order. At times I found myself laughing out loud for minutes at a time.Other times, I had to put the book down to reflect on the truth revealed in words uttered from the mouth of laymen. If you know and love lawyers, get frustrated in legal processes or just want a riotous, light-hearted read, this book is for you.

I thought this book was horrible. If all you want to do is laugh about the problem instead of trying to correct it, then maybe this book is for you. However, I found the stories mean and not funny at all.
1-0 out of 5 stars Immature
This is a book lacking in compassion, with no attempt to understand the issues involved in a diffcult, but potentially correctible relationship. It's mean and vindictive, and not as funny as the authors think it is.Let's hear from them when they become mothers-in-law themselves.Interested families should read other, more helpful books that will alleviate, not exacerbate problems with cruelty.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tedium and Boredom: Now Available in Handy Book Form!
In case [URL} is not sufficient, you can now get an additional dose in convenient paperback! The premise is enticing enough: secret, surprising and salacious documents - a veritable treasure chest of dirt, sleaze, and slime!Who could resist the temptation? But, if the reviews of other readers are the basis, I may be alone in finding "The Smoking Gun" boring and tedious.About as compelling, I guess, as reading unedited police reports and law suits - which is exactly what it is.I guess when it comes right down to it, I really don't find a letter from Sean "Puffy" Combs' doctor - as an excuse for a canceled tour - all that interesting. The contract Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman require their household help sign?Wow - how have I managed to live without knowing the extent of liabilities associated with release of Cruise/Kidman personal information, in detail by the type of media deployed! And the details of loser Parker Stevenson's alimony from estranged wife Kirstie Alley, insuring Stevenson continuance of their lavish life style? ("FAO Schwartz would keep a staff and the store open for two hours exclusively for Kirstie and me.We spared no expense, as we enjoyed our "private" shopping spree. Our FAO Schwartz jaunts would cost us approximately $15,000.")Um, fascinating, I guess?4-0 out of 5 stars A Gallery of the Weird
If there's that one person on your Christmas list for whom it's impossible to buy a gift - say, your conspiracy-theorist, rubber-necking, fascinated-by-the-strange kind of friend - the search for the perfect present may be over. The Smoking Gun, a website dedicated to bringing people actual copies of government documents about celebrities and normal people involved in a variety of strange situations, released a "best-of" book, The Smoking Gun: A Dossier of Secret, Surprising, and Salacious Documents from the Files of the Smoking Gun.Chock-full of all kinds of dirt, human stupidity, and general hilariousness, this is exactly the book for the person who has "everything."5-0 out of 5 stars Funny as all hell!

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't get enough She-Hulk!The fun continues from the first She-Hulk collection!
While not as groundbreaking as the first collection, I still had a good time following She-Hulk into her second collection.Just like before, where most books only tell you one padded out story, She-Hulk gives you a bunch of stories. This time around She-Hulk has a couple adventures being a judge in outer space, helps Hercules when a supervillain tries to sue him because Herc beat him up, and finally She-Hulk has a showdown with her arch enemy Titania.
1-0 out of 5 stars The worst depiction of She-Hulk yet.
She-hulk has always had bad luck with writers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superhuman law is super!
This second collection of She-Hulk's third series continues the fun new direction initiated by writer Dan Slott and artists Juan Bobillo and Paul Pelletier. The series is superhero adventures by way of "Boston Legal".All adventures are either a result of a legal case or initiating one, providing much humor along the way, with the occasional pokes at comic book conventions that readers have willingly suspended their disbelief for over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars talent borrows, genius steals
The other night I was listening to old time radio and an episode of Suspense came on called "Night on Red Mountain". Listening to the episode I came to know that the author(s) of this graphic novel/film borrowed HEAVILY from this episode. You can listen to it yourself to find out. It's too funny really.

When I watched A History of Violence earlier this way, I was impressed. It took the "American Dream" family, and threw them into a terrible situation, yet wasn't entirely predictable. Unfortunately, it suffered from a bit of lack of interest, for lack of better term, about 2/3 through, and kind of lost itself. Regardless, I loved the movie, and made sure to check out the source material it was based on. Imagine my surprise when I read even 1/4 of the book and discovered that the movie took out TONS of things. Finishing the book, I've come to the conclusion that when placed next to it, the movie pretty much pales in comparison. But I'm not one of those people that freaks out and claims that one has to be better than the other- they're both good in their own right, offering things the other doesn't. Though I do admit, the book kept me interested 100% through, from beginning to end. A History of Violence is an extraordinary title, and as the intro by the author explains, is better than any fantasy epic could be if only for the fact that this sort of thing happens every day in real life. Unassuming normal, everyday people get tossed into terrible scenarios, and it's not pretty. That's scarier than some bald guy in purple and green trying to take over the world any day. Imagine getting death threats via someone next to you while you're taking a break at lunch getting shot right through the head, then a call later saying that it was just a warning, and they're watching your every move. What would you do? This book does just that, and then some.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
After watching the film and being disappointed in it I decided to check out the book. To my surprise the book is much much better. The movie just felt like the producers tried to throw shocking graphics in, such as all the sex scenes, and there was many holes to the story. The graphic novel goes into more detail of all the events including how things got to where they are currently. The movie never tells the past of Tom or what exactly he did so we have to assume. The book is just as graphic as the movie, if not more Graphic, at least as graphic as a Graphic Novel can get. The images are very sketchy and in black and white. It is a quick read but if you dislike Comic Book style of writing or violence this book obviously is not for you. ... Read more
