Find a laugh at the place that you need it
Georgie Jessel would have loved this book. He was endlessly talking of the 'Friar's Club' in his old routines. But the truth is this book has quite a bit of material which comes from other sources. Never mind. There are jokes here for every situation and every occasion. The one- liners are conveniently indexed under subject making it easy to decide to be amused about something and finding a particular subject.
Ladies and Germs.....
If you have ever seen the Friar's Club in action, you already know that there is no safe haven from the one liners, roasts and put-downs. "The Friar's Club Encyclopedia of Jokes is no different. I love this great big joke book! I got it for Christmas, and each night before turning out the light, I'd read sections of it, and really enjoy it. To tell the absolute truth, I was *very* suprised to find MANY of the jokes from my collection of "Gross" and "Truly Tasteless" books included here, albiet in slightly altered form. I suppose there's a place in the Friar's hearts for occasional filth and rauch. But you know what? I still love it! Hey, I said I was suprised, I didn't say I didn't approve. More power to 'em, so much the better, I say. Ranging in topics from Drugs, Sex, Work, Women, Doctors, Lawyers, (a rather BIG section there) and yes, even the ethnic jokes, I guarantee you'll find the catagory in here to suit your taste, and then you'll find the perfect joke to make you split your sides! Unlike some of the joke books that only have a few hits among a lot of misses, this book has many, many very funny jokes!

The Best Book I Ever Read!!
I love this book it is the greatest! My mom bought it for me and I read it the same day i couldn't put it down! So many of them reminded me of my family that I laughed the whole way through! Read this and you won't be sorry or bored!!

GREAT YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK BOOK
I am a big fan of Jeff Foxworthy. When I bought this book, I was excited. I loved reading all the punch lines. Its a good book to own for any Jeff Foxworthy Fans.

Worth even more time than a bathroom visit
This one was so engrossing that I wound up reading it at length, in bed.There's just so much trivia in it, and its tone is light and witty.As with all the Bathroom Readers I've bought, it's worthy of a re-read.

Everyone should have a reader
I think everyone should have a bathroom reader.It is so full of fun and interesting facts, I started taking it out of the bathroom and reading it on the train to work.Since the tidbits are so short, it doesn't take much concentration and you can easily pick up anywhere in the book.My husband and I have a great time telling eachother about the things we read in the book. ... MORE MILD THAN HILARIOUS
There are far-better joke collections available in print, for those who wish the truly "hilarious".Most of those in this tome, however, are merely tepid grin-makers, at best.

Hateful!
I would have given no stars, but it wasn't an option.I bought this book because I thought it would have some cute little jokes/one liners.I am horrified at the "jokes" in the section entitled "Ethnicville"!There is nothing funny about these, they are purely hateful.I am ashamed that I bought this book.I put it right where it belongs, in the trash!

Something funny on every page
I bought the Milton Berle Joke Book several years ago.It has some funny jokes, but there is a lot of less than useful material in it.The Pretty Good Joke book has funny material you will want to retell on every page.Some of it is a little edgy, though, like: "Friends help you move.Real friends hellp you move bodies."or "What is the difference between a dog and a fox?About eight beers."Just use some discretion on what you tell where and to whom.

Tell me another one!!!!
This little book of 176 pages is packed full of laughs.Most of the jokes are old chestnuts or variations on them. As a comic once said,"Why tell them new ones when they're still laughing at the old ones."

My dad was in Minnesota when he saw this book. He loved it and brought it home for me. i looked at it and didn't read it..big mistake!!! I started reading it and i love it! It is funny. Wonderful!
"Everything Kids' Joke Book" targets children 9 to 12.The first part of the book is jokes of various sorts.The second part has advice on how to tell jokes and make up jokes and be funny.My 8 year old / 2nd grade daughter loves this book and will willingly read it by herself or aloud.This is exactly what she needs to improve her reading skills, and I've found nothing else she is half as willing to read.Some of the jokes use words she doesn't know; a 12 year old would understand all of the jokes and also find the book suitable.Example jokes: "what is a kitten's favorite color?Purr-ple";"What is a ghost's favorite color?Boo";"If astronauts are so smart, why do they count backward?";"What kind of dog does Dracula like?A Bloodhound."Occasionally throughout, there are cute little exercises to do, where the solution is the answer to a riddle, like a very simple cross-word puzzle.My daughter greatly enjoys filling these out.All told, this books is well worth the buying.

Not for the 5-6 year old market
This book has many jokes, but also has several pages of workbook exercises on humor.How to make up a joke, how to deliver a punch line, etc. . . It's not a passive reader, the child must interact with the book--and a pen. If you just want a book full of jokes, pick a different one.If you have an independent reader that wants to develop his or her joke telling skills as well as picking up a few new jokes, then this would be a good choice for you. ... Good, but not great
This book contains several classic jokes, and some funny jokes I never heard before.It also contains some clunkers.I suspect that reading jokes is just not as laugh-packed as watching a top comic deliver the same jokes in person.

Readers Digest jokes and cartoons without Readers Digest.
If you buy the Readers Digest just for the jokes and cartoons then you dont need to anymore.The jokes and cartoons are all here compiled into 1 book.
A Laugh on Every Page
As a nervous flyer, I thought a joke book might be a calming distraction for the plane ride.While it was far from a panacea, it probably assuaged my trepidation by keeping me occupied.And even with my feet planted firmly on terra firma, the book is good for several guffaws. Read more

The Code of the West
I noticed that this book has not been reviewed for a few years and it's worth a new review.The book consists of 138 pages with a single statement per page.The statements are all short, accurate, and almost incomprehensible to most Americans living in the year 2005.We needed this book about 40 years ago when there were still a few folks that could understand it. That's the only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5....the author missed his due date! Anyway, if you don't read anything else, read that first page and live by it.

Kudos From Cowboy Chris
Pretty much everything we need to know about getting by in life is contained in the sage sayings in this book. One of my favorites is, "Never drink downstream from the herd." Some are simply funny. have you ever thought of something and then wondered if you were a bad person for thinking it? you arent the only one. this book has collected confessions and wishes from many people-maybe one of those people is you!

Great fun
It goes from damn funny to damn tragic in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed this collection of anonymous confessions. It's an interesting snapshot of our times, our morals and our behaviors. It made me think and giggle at the same time, what could be better?

Careful about that
I post stuff at Not Proud and I don't like being called, "pathetic" as the editorial description here says.There's a fine line between opening a space for people to say what they feel and feeding off them in a a voyeuristic, vampirelike manner.

Okay, it gave me something to read.
I recently received a copy of the book as a gift. This is certainly not the type of book I would buy for myself and reading this volume has not changed that. While mildly amusing and certainly successful in giving me an occasional case of "gluteus circulus" aka buttcheek ring from prolonged sitting, this SUPREMELY SATISFYING edition failed to win me over as a repeat reader. Not that I found that much fault with this book, and I'm sure it has a great following of readers, I just like my mind enhancement non-fiction reading to be a bit more substantial.
For those that never read
If you have even spent a little time in your life reading newspapers, magazines, the net, etc you will have seen 99% of these trivia lists and items.Save your money so you can buy a better quality toilet paper.

This book was terrible!I did not laugh at any of his joke examples.I wish I had known he was a writer for Jay Leno, I would never have bought the book.Sorry to be negative, but I have to warn others!

You need to do your homework if you're not an american before reading this book
