2-0 out of 5 stars This Book Made Me Fall Asleep!
After reading "Why Do Men Have Nipples" and loving it, I had high hopes for book number two.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hey Doc, here's one that you'll like!!!!!!!!
I loved this book!!!!! I learned a lot and laughed my butt off in the process (hmmm, here's one for you guys, can one laugh ones butt off).I had only read a few pages of the "Nipple" book and liked it but never bought it or finshed it (Sorry guys, a slow learner here) but halfway through this book, I went and ordered the Nipple book. I highly recommend this book to everyone I know and those I don't know.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Probing Read For Understanding Our Bodies
Overall, I found this book very enjoyable. As suggested by the title, quirky questions that tangentially pop, or might eventually come, into one's mind are answered.Questions related to differences in the sexes, responses in sports physiology, affects of hormones, and truths of homeopathic healing are investigated among other topics. The book is tied together with lead-in fictional anecdotes and interjected IM conversations. The anecdotes are amusing, but the IM messages are very interesting as they show some of the behind the scenes methods (and digressions) that entail in the approach of putting a large literary work together.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bathroom Humor. Next Time Print Your Material In The Stall With A Marker.
It's not a bad book if you enjoy middle school bathroom humor....about half the book is sexual humor. And for about 25% of the questions they dont know the answer.
4-0 out of 5 stars Funny, interesting, entertaining, and "helpful"!
Somehow any further compliment to this book seems meaningless amongst the sea of positive reviews here. However, I still want to express my heartfelt appreciation to some authentic answers to some of my life long doubts, including:-
4-0 out of 5 stars The 411 on all things gross and goofy
Funnier than the alarmist 1960s "classic" EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX * BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK. This post-modern medical answer book is more of a "Goofus and Gallant explain it all to you, and then some." It is mostly presented as short medical explanations based on questions doctors often get asked at cocktail parties after the other guests' inhibitions drop from their alcohol consumption. These tidbits include sexual and scatalogical curiosities, old wives' tales, and medical oddities bordering on urban legends. These informative, if odd, explanations are interspersed with verbatim email and IM exchanges (typos left uncorrected) between the coauthors--the bona fide medical doctor Goldberg (Gallant) and medical tourist Leyner (in the Goofus role). They have no illusions about the literary merit of their collaboration and are quite frank about the room in the house where their book is most likely to be read and shelved. Don't throw about your AMA Guide to Medicine, but DO read WHY DO MEN HAVE NIPPLES? for the fun of it. If laughter is the best medicine, you'll probably extend your life by at least another week or two. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Completely accurate account on living with short-term memory loss
Ms. Osborn is a godsend to have created this book. I am a survivor of an illness which greatly affected my short-term memory, and although it is difficult for me to remember the details of the book overall, I could 100% relate to each and every sentence as I read it. If you are friend or family to one with short-term memory loss, or if you simply wish to understand life with virtually no short-term memory, read this book. You will have a completely different outlook on life once you do.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Instructive Read for the Head Injured
This was a well done piece that describes some of the many deficits head injured people suffer. This is particularly valuable since so little literature is available to lay persons interested in head injuries. I found myself clearly identifying with Claudia and feeling very fortunate not to have suffered quite as much as she.

2-0 out of 5 stars Kill us with how terribly clever you as, Oscar.
I am obviously out of step with the opinions of the other readers.I am in the medical field, and this may affect how I view this book ( although I ADORED House of God).I felt like the author wrote this book so he could admire how very clever he was, like a vain person who is always checking him/herself out in the store windows when walking by.Just to smug.

4-0 out of 5 stars World's Best Doctor
A very quick read, filled with short, humorous essays on how to become the world's best doctor (after the author, Oscar London, dies, because he currently considers himself the world's best doctor.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Rule 57:Rehearse Your Final Words
I became positive my father had written this book during Dr. Arlan Cohn's (aka Oscar London, M.D., W.B.D.) discussion of office music:"If [a doctor] wants to destroy his practice, he might consider bringing in an accordion player.(One night at a restaurant, I reached out and plunged my dinner knife into the bellows of an approaching accordion; the stricken look on the player's face when the wind was knocked out of his "Lady of Spain" was well worth the price of damages.)"

5-0 out of 5 stars More Than I Bargained For!
I never realized that I could make my own beauty products!I thought they had to be manufactured in a "laboratory"!Well, the kitchen is the only laboratory one needs. Not only was I very tired of paying outlandish prices for skin moisturizers and beauty creams, some of them actually irritated my skin more than helped.I searched the web for books on "homemade" personal care products.I thought, 'what have I got to lose?'The facial moisturizer recipe in this book was extremely easy (and fun) to make, and ... my skin has never felt or looked better.I have made many of the products in this book. Not only do they all work, but the ingredients are readily available, simple to assemble and inexpensive to make.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving this book!
I became interested in making my own beauty products for about one year now which is about when i bought this book.It is truly incredible. It is full of interesting and easy to follow recipes. The list of beauty ingredients in abcorder is wonderful because it exlains the use of items and where you can find them. I just cant stop reading this book over and over again. I try new recipes and then read more and try more.I bought Cox's other book "beauty for the seasons" (gift giving) it too is great, but this one is the best beginner and experienced person's choice.I highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book
I found this book inspiring and a good resource for a newbie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
This book contains several classic jokes, and some funny jokes I never heard before. It also contains some clunkers.I suspect that reading jokes is just not as laugh-packed as watching a top comic deliver the same jokes in person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Readers Digest jokes and cartoons without Readers Digest.
If you buy the Readers Digest just for the jokes and cartoons then you dont need to anymore. The jokes and cartoons are all here compiled into 1 book.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Laugh on Every Page
As a nervous flyer, I thought a joke book might be a calming distraction for the plane ride. While it was far from a panacea, it probably assuaged my trepidation by keeping me occupied. And even with my feet planted firmly on terra firma, the book is good for several guffaws. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Earthly Child
-Justin Richards could write a book with his eyes closed. 4-0 out of 5 stars Hey, It's Doctor Who...not Shakespeare!
Okay all, here's my take on this book.First off, for a Doctor Who novel, it was average. It was true to the character of the 9th Doctor (for those of you in the States, trust me on this), and there weren't any painfully embarressing scenes where the Doctor goes completely out of his mind.Secondly, it had a decent story, a tad predictable, but it managed not to have gaping plot holes.
2-0 out of 5 stars Slow and tedious
Of the first three 9th Doc novels I hear the most raves about this one but find I like it the least. The plot is slow. The mystery is rather tedius. And the climax is far too technical in writing style to be thrilling, as it should be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good funny book
This book is a quick read and very entertaining. It is great to laugh out loud and enjoy yourself even when doing chemo. I have passed this on to several people and recommend it to all chemo patients. It helps to laugh and makes it easier to take.

1-0 out of 5 stars 57 Good Things about Chemotherapy
I sent it back. This book was not funny and was not professionally done.I purchased a total of 4 books for my neighbor who has cancer and of the 4, this one had the least amount of pages, humour or information and was the MOST expensive! It also had 80 (yes that's EIGHTY) BLANK pages!!! A poor tree had to sacrifice its life for such a sad, sad book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps Raise Your Spirits
I found this book in the library at the Cancer Center where I had my chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.I was trying to keep a positive attitude. This book made me laugh and helped raise my spirits.I have one of the cartoons on my desk at work to remind me to think positive about a long term cure. I'm ordering the book now for my niece and her husband, who has cancer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A real let-down
I am a big fan of J. Michael Straczynski & Gary Frank's SUPREME POWER series, so I had high hopes for the miniseries DOCTOR SPECTRUM: FULL SPECTRUM.But my hopes were definitely not met. Don't be fooled into thinking that FULL SPECTRUM provides essential insight into the events depicted in SUPREME POWER.Yes, it does provide background on Joe Ledger before the mysterious power crystal physically made itself a part of his life, but the events depicted in this story are fairly superfluous.Yeah, he had a tough life, and that's about it... well, gee.By the end of the story, I didn't feel that I understood anything more about Doctor Spectrum, the power crystal, or SUPREME POWER than I already did.Even then, it would have helped if Straczynksi and Frank could have handled this story, but they unfortunately farmed it out to Samm Barnes and Travel Foreman, who can't keep up with the standard set by the series creators.FULL SPECTRUM can definitely be skipped- you won't miss a thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Backstory
This side edition to the Squadron Supreme rewrite, gives a good insight into the psyche of Dr. Spectrum.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing to write home about
J. Michael Straczynski's radical retooling of the Squadron Supreme, Supreme Power, has come off very well (with a few weak points), but this miniseries collected into a trade paperback seems almost entirely unnecessary. It's a very tired science fiction/comic book cliche: The protagonist falls into a coma/is trapped in a malfunctioning virtual reality world/falls under a spell/whatever, and has to face The Demons Of His Past. The plot device is a shortcut to developing a character, and like many shortcuts tends to often not be worth it. This book won some award at a Toronto comic book convention, so at least a few people liked it, but I would strongly recommend previewing it at your local comics shop before buying it. Much more worthy of purchase are the Nighthawk miniseries, by Daniel Way and Steve Dillon (very gory, very reminiscent of the work of Dillon's regular comics partner, Garth Ennis), and JMS' own Hyperion miniseries, which actually advances the plot of the Supreme Power series. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Just awful
The problem with this book: Its humor treats patients like whiny, stupid, overly-needy idiots that are incapable of rational decision making or understanding the overbearing burden they place on physicians. Doctors deal with more than their fair share of heightened emotion and need, however, this book makes you wonder how much basic human respect the authors have for those they've pledged to help and serve.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reality bites!
This book is the one you reach for after a long, hard day with whiny patients, screeching moms and parents who keep forgetting to give their epileptic kid his phenobarbital.
5-0 out of 5 stars mybookopinion MISSED THE POINT
As a st doc I can attest to the many stories in this book...in particular are the 2am ER narc seekers, heres a hint people, wether its in the ER at 2am or your FP at 10AM if you are a seeking narcotics everyone knows it, no one beleives how your rx was stolen, or how your toilet has passed so much codeine it should be given its own DEA number.Great read for those looking for some relief from the PC world we live in when you can be sued for telling a patient she is too fat and the once noble profession has been reduced to something akin to a walking lottery ticket, you can find refuge in the chronicles at least until that sheriff tracks you down with that subpoena.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks for writting this book
This book is a small treasure.I keep picking it up a reading different passages. It helps me understand and appreciate my father, who has Alzheimer's, in ways that I have forgotten.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am one of the people in this book
My name is Doreen. I am one of the people in Betsy Peterson's book. She mailed me a signed copy which I have lent to other people and they also found it very useful.I am writing this to let people know that even though the book is called Voices of Alzheimers, it is really a book about Dementia in general (my diagnosis is Pick's Disease, not Alzheimers and as the book indicates they later changed Betsy Peterson's husband's diagnosis from Alzheimer's to another dementia). So if youhave a family member who has a dementia other than Alzheimers, you can also find helpful (and hopeful) information in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Book on the Subject
This small book is a treasure of honest and deep sharing on the part of dementia patients and their caregivers and loved ones. The book is visually very attractive, the content is well organized, and the quotes--covering the full spectrum of sadness and anger to wisdom, humor, hope, and gratitude--are interspersed with the author's own moving story. Reading this has enabled me to relate with much greater understanding and confidence to those with Alzheimer's, and there is an excellent section on availableresources. Voices of Alzheimer's is unique in the literature on the subject and deserves to become a classic in the field.

4-0 out of 5 stars I had brain surgery...too!
I had the pleasure of somewhat relearning how to read using this book after I had brain surgery also. If there is anyone out there that has had brain surgery or knows someone who has had it, it is a must read to get a small taste of what the effects before and after the surgery are. The little scetches in the book are great to add a bit of humor to a huge situation, which is much needed to sit back and laugh at.

4-0 out of 5 stars Humorist Reflects on her Brain Surgery
Author and illustrator Suzy Becker writes about her experience being diagnosed with a brain tumor and having brain surgery. Her great sense of humor (including the book title) and her little drawings throughout the book keep the reader's interest while she still manages to tell her painful story with honesty. It is especially helpful that she focuses on the unintended, temporary damage that can come from brain surgery and the long, difficult road to recovery. Brain surgery survivors will identify with her struggle; hopefully, other readers will gain a better understanding of those who undergo this type of surgery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Realistic from a professional's point of view
I am a speech language pathologist who has worked with patients following brain surgery in a variety of settings.Ms. Becker's narrative was highly moving and realistic - minus any self-pity component.I could appreciate her valid perceptions of the limitations of therapy and the formulaic responses of some of her therapists, e.g. the neuropsychologist. Her book underscored to me that it was her determination, her support system, the natural healing process that brought her so far along the road to recovery.I recommend this fascinating, beautifully written and humorous book. One cannot help having empathy for her plight and applauding her resilience. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasure to read
You would think this book is for specialists: family therapists, psychologists, social workers and so on. But is not. Or at least not only. Specialists will enjoy a book that is literature and still challenges your perspectives so deeply, but non-specialists will be especially amazed. 5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone suffer with a member's disability

4-0 out of 5 stars To fall out laughing is the best medicine
I read this book here in Ceará, a state of Brazil.I'm an agronomist and I like to read books. This book isn't for doctors, but for the general public.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sloppy Writing - and Publishing - From Start to Finish
This book is not really a history of medicine. It is, rather, a sloppy garage sale of anecdotes, florid sentences, misspellings, poor grammar, and errors of fact (Leeuwenhoek did NOT, as Mr. Gordon states, invent the microscope). The only unifying theme is the author's rampant "humor," but it rarely elucidates the history of medicine. How could St. Martin's Press send this manuscript to the printer without copy editing or proof reading?Beats me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok book if you are already in the medical field
This was an ok survey of the history of Medicine.I found that the author, (who is from great Britain), uses too many terms more familiar to other physicians. The average reader would probably not enjoy this book, as some of the language can get quite lofty, and encumbered by latin medical terms. If you want an easier read of the history of medicine this is not the book for you. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Lazy Americans are fat
Why are Americans so fat? According to this dope, it's because of fast food. Which is an easy way to shift the blame from ourselves, our laziness, and our lac of discipline and blame those mean corporations for offering us all sorts of alternatives that we can accept or decline. Gee, I wish Mommy Government would outlaw unhealthy foods and unhealthy portions! Then everything would be right with the world; after all, no government has ever consolidated power over its people and then abused them. Right? People shouldn't have to make decisions for themselves! It's not fair to ask us to use our brains and decide what's best for ourselves. Someone else should take responsibility so we can just sit around watching television shows and playing on the Internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you liked "Super-Size Me!" you'll love this book!
I cannot begin to tell you how often I chuckled outloud! While much of the information that Spurlock presents is startling and eye-opening of a seriously disturbing nature, he does so with a healthy dose of comic relief.I believe that this book is something that every parent, teacher, administrator and politician should read and read again.Anyone concerned about what we put in our mouths and call food, especially with the health and well-being of our youth, will want to read this book.
