1-0 out of 5 stars SAVE YOUR MONEY...
This book is not funny! The only amusing material in this book was a description of the main character trying to give his cat a pill. What a waste of money!

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny at times...
This book certainly wasn't what I expected, after some of the reviews I had read. I had been really curious, when I saw the title, since I've been reading LJB's series for years as a sleeping aid, so I was ready for a good parody.. Well, what Qwilleran's and Polly's relation is lacking in sex, this one sure makes up for it...Other than that, throughout the whole book I had the impression that I'm of the wrong age group, gender and cultural background to really get half the jokes.(But someone DID explain to me what the cats' names meant...yup!)

5-0 out of 5 stars WALL STREET JOURNAL
Read the piece this week on Lilian Jackson Braun in THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ("Cat Woman Who Writes Mysteries") and was intrigued by the line: "In 2003, novelist Robert Kaplow wrote a parody of the series, 'The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun.'"Found the paperback and read it in one hilarious sitting. As Ms. Braun is really too much of a cream-puff to effectively satirize, Kaplow widens his target to include much of popular culture, particularly the world of novelists. In an inspired touch, Kaplow writes a wonderful part for Philip Roth who comes out railing and ranting against what he perceives as anti-semitism in the Braun novels, and then destroys every other modern novelist in a jealous rage.Very funny stuff.Definitely not for the blue-haired old ladies. But very funny. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
I would've given it 5 stars but it should get about 4.8 stars.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lost in Translation...
While it's great hearing David Sedaris' voice, it ultimately takes away from the experience.Sedaris' books are amazingly funny and dark; very witty stuff. They are best enjoyed in print form though, when the reader can inject their own tone and inflection into the words of the printed page.Hearing David Sedaris' interpretation somewhat lessens this experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars How Can You Beat This Price?
As a big fan of David Sedaris, I have loved listening to him read his stories on NPR even more than I have enjoyed reading his books. While I had wanted to purchase some of the audiobooks, they always seemed so pricy.

Editorial Review

Nearly a year after the presidential election of 2004, Al Franken is still checking facts, exposing lies, and trying to clear the record as he sees it. Sneering at President Bush's declaration of a mandate after a two-and-a-half percent victory, he deconstructs Bush's 2004 platform of "fear, smear, and queers," and explains how the president has done some flip-flopping of his own. He offers comment on well-known stories, including the Terri Schiavo case, and some more obscure, such as reports of forced prostitution, indentured servitude, and squalid conditions at clothing factories in Saipan (which is part of the American Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands). Franken focuses on Tom DeLay's connection to the territory and his efforts to prevent bills from being passed that would have required Saipan to follow U.S. labor laws. Iraq, too, is discussed, from its planning stages to the huge sum of money currently unaccounted for, including $8.8 billion missing from the Coalition Provisional Authority's coffers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So I went Franken on Franken and did a little checking of my own with a LexisNexis account
So I went Franken on Franken and did a little checking of my own with a LexisNexis account and I have to say that he is right almost all of the time.Good for Al to tell people the truth.I felt connected to Al in so many ways greater than just a reader.I felt as if I were sipping coffee with the man and listening to his political tirades and family anecdotes.
5-0 out of 5 stars A call to action
I was a little disappointed with Franken's last book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them (A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right). I thought it was too jokey, too silly. There was plenty of important stuff in there, but it was wrapped in a marshmallow coating of humor that prevented some people from taking it seriously, and allowed others to dismiss it outright. Not this time.
5-0 out of 5 stars A brilliant piece with a ray of hope for our hijacked nation
This was the first Al Franken book I had ever read. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I'd heard of him once or twice, but I'm just a teenager, so I thought he was just another political writer. This book changed all of that. I am an avid reader, and I tore through it in one night's read. When I was done, I thought about what I had read, and went back to read it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, but still worth it.
This tape is a collection of monologues from the show when it was on Comedy Central. While the monologues are funny, space is wasted by the shows music and the introduction of the guests for each show. The space saved could have been used for more jokes, but it still worth a listen.

1-0 out of 5 stars One minute monologues followed by guest introductions
If you're looking for some humorous political commentary, you won't find it here. The audio book consists of a series of one minute monologues in which Maher lays out the topics to be discussed on the show, followed by the guest introductions. There aren't any clips of the guests or Maheractually discussing those topics.Frankly there is nothing humorous orentertaining about listening to a series of topics and guest introductions. It's a waste of time and money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Particularly A Carlin Fan But Loved The Book!
I am not any huge George Carlin fan but I stumbled upon the book so decided to buy it and read it.The title "When will jesus Bring The Pork Chops?" caught my eye because it was a little different and sacreligious.Although the book has very little to do with this title it is very amusing. Its not a biography, you won't learn much from it and it has little continuety, it is just observational humor at its finest. Some of the things Carlin writes about you just have to stop and wonder how he came up with it and why he was even thinking about it.I didnt take offense to anything in this book (even those things targeted at my religion, profession etc.)This is not a book to be taken seriously, just sit back, relax and enjoy this quick read.

1-0 out of 5 stars mrvision
This is the 1st and last book by George Carlin that I'll ever read. What amazes me is that he found a publisher for this junk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Outrageous (3.7 *s)
There is so much bloat, hypocrisy, obnoxiousness, stupidity, arrogance, deceit, and nonsense in American society that it is easy pickings for a comedian of George Carlin's inclinations and perceptiveness. Of course religion, a bizarre belief system retained from the Dark Ages, is in for a flood of verbal dousing from Carlin. While the devout may find that appalling, there are crucial aspects of society that are more difficult to capture in humor - like subtle and endemic class warfare.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shelley II :The middle of my century
I absolutely loved this book.Shelley tells her wild and crazy story of an actor's life in the 1950's.This includes the intense and gratifying work of being an actress and the world famous people she worked with, socialized, lived with and loved.I can say that there is drama, tragedy, humor and love on almost every page. What an exciting life she lived and she's still a young beautiful woman at the end of this book.Buy this book today!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo Shelley
I liked this even more then the firt memory book.4-0 out of 5 stars INDOMITABLE STAR CAN REALLY WRITE.
Though it can be argued that Shelley Winters has assisted in creating her own legend (her ego is the real star of both highly entertaining autobiographies), there is a real flair to her writing and her memory for details (even allowing for the usual embellishment) is impressive. Her place in cinema is probably in question; two Oscars was a bit generous and her seeming insistence that she deserved to win Best Actress for "A Place in the Sun" over Vivien Leigh's Blanche in "Streetcar" is merely laughable today. But she did produce an impressive body of work (and relationships) on screen and stage and deserves credit for being larger than life, a trait that some actress of today could take a lesson from.Ms. Winters takes pride in her work and the craft of acting, which is to also be applauded, and she never paints herself in an angelic light when not appropriate.Overall, these are among the very finest autobiographies of any kind, celebrity or non-.Is it too much to hope for a third act to these treasured volumes? ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Dilbert Attitude
If you've ever been in the hi-tech rat race, you already know that the Dilbert comic strip is a documentary. You may also have started to wonder how all the pointy-hairs came to hold such similar sets of bizarre beliefs. Well, your worst fears have come true. There is a secret cabal of pointy-haired teaching, and this is its text.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Adams' best effort
While the classic comic strips included in this book (most dating from the early and mid-1990's) continue to be amusing, the rest of this book missed its target.Written as an over-the-top instructional guide for managers, it is takes itself so seriously that little of it remains amusing.Adams is clearly attempting to satirize bad management practices and abuses, but he might be trying too hard to be funny. While there are plenty of bad managers out there, I doubt that many of them are as intentionally bad as suggested here. This book was indeed a light read, and fans of the "Dilbert" comic strip should find familiar material here, but overall, "The Dilbert Principle" is a better book.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOL
As luck would have it, I was reading Dogbert's Top Secret Management Handbook when an old friend showed up at my door with a sad tale.Rich was an IT guy at a bank in Florida that had gone through five buy-outs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Caution, this book will make you laugh....hard.
I reread this recently and I laughed as much as I did the first time I read it.David Sedaris is quite a national treasure even though most people don't know who he is!His writing is wonderful, poignant, sentimental and hilarious. The man knows how to write well and you can tell he continues to love his craft.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out alive.
David Sedaris just might be the funniest man alive.
5-0 out of 5 stars Me tAlK PRettY ONe DAY
"I know the thing that you speak exact now. Talk me more, you, plus, please, plus," Says David Sedaris, "talking pretty" in his book, Me tAlK PRettY ONe DAY. (page 173) The quote above is from a story about the absurdities of taking French lessons. The book is a collection of funny memoirs about such awful experiences as speech therapy in elementary school, his father forcing him to take guitar lessons from a midget and moving to France and not being able to speak French. Most of the stories center around his bizarre siblings and parents, including his obsessively swearing brother Paul, his alcoholic, chain-smoking mom and his drama-obsessed sister Amy. As the book progresses the stories take place later in his life and follow him into adulthood. We see him growing older but still being the same timid, disturbed outsider. While this book is not part of a series, David Sedaris has written many other humor books like it, such as Naked, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice.

As a middle school reading teacher, with 35 years of experience, I can tell you that this is the one author I recommed for reluctant readers, especially boys. I discovered this author when our second son decided he didn't like to read. Well, he didn't read much but he loved Outdoor Life and the books by Mr. McManus.

A warmly entertaining cd which kept all the restless people happy on a 1200 mile drive...including adults, children and a small dog. Patrick McManus stories are always funny but we'd never purchased a cd before. The reader on the cd did an excellent job with character voice intonations and they "sounded" like I had imagined they would. Wonderful for all...perhaps best to those who have some hunting experience in the their background but not necessary to enjoy his witty tales. Absolutely recommended for long trips when everything begins to sound alike (or when grumpiness begins to descend upon the car)...play this cd and laugh out loud...which make earn you a few strange looks if you happen to be using headphones (as I did for a few sections)... 5-0 out of 5 stars A very funny weasel book
"Weasel is a funny word. You can improve the humor value of almost any situation by injecting a weasel into it."5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and Funnier
Dave Barry really fulfills the position of funniest man in America with this book; he makes every line something to laugh about. When I read this book I had to keep myself from laughing out loud, and scaring those. The book gets funnier and funnier as it goes along, but its not all just booger jokes, its a lot of jokes that make you think and have a meaning behind them.Don't get me wrong there still are plenty of booger jokes that everyone has come to know and love from Mr. Barry. The book covers many interesting topics like; Exploding animals and other assorted things, dogs, and buying cars.I gave Dave 5 stars for his epic novel Dave Barry Talks back, so go buy, rent it, what ever you have to do to get it, just do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GreatMusic for Cat Lovers
Love this CD. Bought a copy for my daughter who is a cat lover and liked it so much that I had to get a copy for myself. If you are a cat fancier you will like these songs alot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Stories and Characters Told by a Mesmerizing Voice
Ah, delighted to see that these are still available, and that there are 2 more volumes in the edition since we first got our box set about 12 years ago (I think). Tom Bodett is an American classic, a story teller with a voice you could listen to for hours. And his characters and their adventures are as real and everyday as they are intriguing and unique.
1-0 out of 5 stars Bodett's awful
Tom Bodett is dreadful. At first I thought he was just a dumbed down Garrison Keillor, but his characters and stories are mean-spirited, and Prairie Home Companion was never that.I listened as far as the "humorous" story about beating a cat to death with a broom (ho! ho!) before I threw the cassettes out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another boring rehash
Yet another forum for the author to rehash the "good old days" give her wannabes their 15 minutes of fame.I don't understand why someone who is an inspirational speaker and talented writer would travel this path.

3-0 out of 5 stars FEEL BETTER LADIES! This is just fun...in book form.
There is really nothing At ALL WRONG IN HAVING A GOOD TIME,
3-0 out of 5 stars Just didn't have the old magic
My wife and I have loved the Sweet Potato Queen books from the beginning.Reading them together became something of a ritual for us.This book, however, left us both rather disappointed.
