5-0 out of 5 stars like taking a $@#! on heroin
(That's a quote from somewhere in the book) I haven't stopped laughing since I picked up this book and now I also can't stop finding Do's and Don'ts all over the streets of Chicago. I'll be giving this book out to unsuspecting friends for Xmas this year.

5-0 out of 5 stars laughs!!!!!
i don't have the words to tell you how funny this book is. read it... twice

4-0 out of 5 stars Sits well next to a toilet...
So most of the photo write-ups come from insular, genre-arguing, punk ex-junkies... That's a fact. Though on the whole, the photos are interesting, and the fashion reviews are humorous, especially when a visual faux pas is employed.

What a treat, 126 large pages of Calvin and Hobbes comic strips in full-color.Having this book means being able to read and re-read your favorites. There are even a couple I'd like to frame and look at every day.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Very First Calvin and Hobbes Experience
Six years ago this book was my very first introduction to the world of Calvin and Hobbes. I had seen these comics in the newspapers, but for some reason had never really bothered to read them. Needless to say, this book changed all that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
To a knitter, this book has lots of humor. The humor is mixed with author truths and quotes from famous people. It's a nice little read that a person can pick up, read, put down five minutes later...then pick up again even later still....and pick up right where they left off, or open the book to a different spot, and still enjoy the book. The Yarn Harlot does it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars It makes you feel good to know.....
What can I say, as a knitter for over 45 years........I am not alone. My experiences as a knitter that I felt were unique to me were not. Knowing/reading that they have beenexperiencesd by others is a good feeling. It's a great read and it was worth giving up some knitting time.A must read for all knitters.

4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT ASSET FOR THE COMIC COLLECTOR
Overstreet is certainly the book to have when trying to access the value of your collection. I only regret that they removed the grading system from this book and have moved to endorsing commercial companies to do this for you. Wizard only care about what is hot right now. All in all, this book is your best bet but alway remember, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Paperback Poor Quality Binding.
Iv'e had several Paperback Overstreet Guides and after moderate use pages tend to come loose from the binding and the book becomes worthless as a resale not to mention trying to keep it together. The Hardbacks seem to hold up much better and are more desirable as a collector item. For the additional price I find it is worth going with the Hardback version. I have never found Amazon.Comm to offer the Hardback and I don't know why??

5-0 out of 5 stars 'THE' Comic book guide

1-0 out of 5 stars Lazy Americans are fat
Why are Americans so fat? According to this dope, it's because of fast food. Which is an easy way to shift the blame from ourselves, our laziness, and our lac of discipline and blame those mean corporations for offering us all sorts of alternatives that we can accept or decline. Gee, I wish Mommy Government would outlaw unhealthy foods and unhealthy portions! Then everything would be right with the world; after all, no government has ever consolidated power over its people and then abused them. Right? People shouldn't have to make decisions for themselves! It's not fair to ask us to use our brains and decide what's best for ourselves. Someone else should take responsibility so we can just sit around watching television shows and playing on the Internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you liked "Super-Size Me!" you'll love this book!
I cannot begin to tell you how often I chuckled outloud! While much of the information that Spurlock presents is startling and eye-opening of a seriously disturbing nature, he does so with a healthy dose of comic relief.I believe that this book is something that every parent, teacher, administrator and politician should read and read again.Anyone concerned about what we put in our mouths and call food, especially with the health and well-being of our youth, will want to read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny!
A girlfriend brought this book to me while I was in the hospital recovering from surgery. I laughed so hard I almost injured myself. This is my life as a southern woman trying desparately to age gracefully.
5-0 out of 5 stars likea phone call from an old friend
This is one of those books one just does not want to finish reading because it will be like the end of a friendship. As a former English teacher, the author expresses her love of the English language in her writing without anyone ever guessing she was a "stuffy old English teacher." She is wise beyond her years and should inspire other lovers of our language to write about ordinary things. This book will make you laugh and cry; it will make you think and do.It will send you on a wonderful trip down memory lane and will inspire you to drink more lemonade, visit more friends, and catch more lightning bugs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Blend of Over-the-top and Honest
The easiest way to determine if you should buy this book is to see if you like the blog (from which some 10 to 30% of the book is taken): http://anonymouslawyer.blogspot.com/ And be sure to read at least a month's worth of posts. Like all blogs, some posts are better than others. The book, however, is completely great.
1-0 out of 5 stars Reading this is a Waste of Time
The best thing that can be said is that the cover was not misleading when it said that the book was written in the blog manner.Just like most blogs, it rambles on, has little substantive content, no significant plot, is repetitive and never goes anywhere.Although the humor attempts may relate to adult situations, the style resembles what you would expect in a middle school writing assignment.
5-0 out of 5 stars So few modern authors succeed at satire, but, congratulations, Jeremy, you've done it!
Jeremy Blachman has spun a wickedly funny and outrageous story about life in a prominent Los Angeles corporate law firm. The boss in The Devil Wears Prada has nothing on our narrator, the Anonymous Lawyer, who serves as the hiring partner at his firm and has his sights firmly set on the Chairman position within the next decade. The reader gets an inside look at the motivations and desires of this evil partner, a man who despises his Anonymous Wife and her shopping habits, who disdains any lawyer who has more than the one allotted "outside interest," and who values profitability and career success above all else.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Us Beyond Anger and Remorse
This book is funny. This book is true. Why not five stars? Because I'm just not sure that humor will do it anymore. The subtitle to "F.U.B.A.R." is "America's Right-wing Nightmare", and that pretty well sums it up. Can humor really continue to assuage the destruction that this subtitle summarizes? Would humor have helped rational Germans put a stop to the Nazi party before that party had crossed an irrevocable line? Probably not, but the United States isn't Germany and Right-wing Republicans haven't quite become Nazis...yet.
5-0 out of 5 stars an interesting take on American conservatism
"FUBAR: America's Right-Wing Nightmare" is a book in which the writers, Sam Seder and Stephen Sherrill, express their rage about the current state of affairs of America as relative to its current leadership as well as its tactics. According to these two gentlemen, the country's current state of affairs are messed up beyond recognition, rivaling even Watergate, the Great Depression, and Vietnam, in that it is revealed that the leaders seem to have plans to taking control of every aspect of the inhabitants' lives. I found this to be an entertaining, clever, well-researched and meaningful read. The only part that was not amusing was that some of it was true. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Bathroom Book
Before I begin, I must state, that I have read this book... unlike many Amazon 'reviewers.'
3-0 out of 5 stars Though not in complete agreement, I nodded A LOT!
I bought this book after seeing Mr. Goldberg on the Today show.I was not sure what I would think after reading his book and was surprised to find that while reading, I was nodding more than shaking my head.I liked Mr. Goldberg's style of writing - similar to how I reactively think - but I did find him a bit repetitive. He also made a lot of sweeping generalizations that made me roll my eyes and skip ahead a couple paragraphs.
2-0 out of 5 stars Unenjoyable
This hardcore conservative did not enjoy this book. The book is filled with a wealth of eye-opening information on significant people that I did not know but should (like Hugo Chavez's new best friend, Noam Chomsky), but the reading is so laborious and draining that I cannot recommend it.It has none of the light-hearted fun that we often get from Rush Limbaugh.Rather, it brought to mind the dark experience of listening alone to Michael Savage in a bad mood after dark. The cheeky title is misleading - this was a joyless book to read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a fan
Kurt Vonnegut knows how to draw your attention, and it's often only after you've finished the book that you realize the level of seriousness that he was trying to portray.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wampeters, Foma, & Granfalloons
Cat's Cradle is basically a unique and creative look at the end of the world. To me, Vonnegut is arguing that the dizzying progress of science and technology in the last century has made the total destruction of life on earth a frightening possibility, and it's not just the "bad guys" that threaten humanity with annihilation:an equal threat comes from the well-intentioned but short-sighted, from the lonely or downtrodden, from the greatest superpower to the tiniest and poorest island nation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but too short
Didn't know what to expect.Thought it might be difficult reading for some reason.Turns out it was pretty easy.I guess it just gives you a lot to think about instead of looking up words and things like that.I think it could have been a 4.5-5 star book if the story would have been expanded upon to at least 500pp, or at least long enough to develop the characters. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The best way to face sixty is to make fun of it, that is what Viorst does
I have not yet hit the landmark sixtieth birthday, but I am closing on it rather fast. It is clear to me that the best way to approach that fateful day is to laugh about it and one of the best ways to accomplish that is to read this book. In general, it pokes good clean fun at aging, although there is an occasional bitter tone when describing some of the more unpleasant aspects of life. Independent of your age, life is what we make of it and Viorst makes fun of what we all will hopefully face someday, the arrival of the sixtieth birthday. After all, the alternative really isn't a great deal of fun to contemplate

5-0 out of 5 stars Scintillating Sixties
Judith Viorst deals with aging gracefully in her truth-giving poems about Suddenly Sixty and Other Shocks of Later Life.Being of a certain age in American society brings a certain angst tempered by the wisdom of experience-if we are lucky and thoughtful.Almost every poem elicits laughter as she ruminates on a variety of topics, includingmen's inability to ask for directions, the difficulty in apologizing, the family vacation, retirement, or the revenge for the woman dumped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Judith Viorst has another winner!
She's done it again!Anyone 60+ will recognize herself in Judith's spectacular verses. To get the full flavor of these poems, you have to read them out loud with all the proper inflections.I never laughed so hard or cried so much over a book as I did with this one.She hits the nail on the head when she describes life after 60!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
When I first heard about this title, it sparked my interest. Anyone who pays any attention to politics always wants to know where the other side is comming from. Some like George Lakoff (Moral Politics) will look at the other side through a social psychological framework while others like Bill O'Reilly (Culture Warrior) will use a demonizing framework of the other side (traditional-conservatives are good, secular-progressives are bad). John Moe on the other hand wants to know where the other side is comming from by trying to become one of them. In a one month period, he reads only conservative literature and newspapers, and listens only to conservative talk shows and music like Tobe Keith, Kid Rock, and Lee Greenwood. He also talks to conservative heavyweights like Rich Lowery, William Kristol, Michael Medved (who by the way doesnt even like Fox News, gets a little embarassed by Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, and prefers to listen to NPR), and talks with the mayor of the most conservative district in the United States.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not so smug Jon Stewart
I went in for the funny on this book but discovered it also had some interesting insights, and helps folks to step out of their "right/left" boxes a little bit.Seems in the end we all have a fair bit in common, much as I hate to say that about Sean Hannity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fair, Balanced and Funny
I could give this hilarious and honest book to my granola-chewing Bush-hating mom and my hunting-loving, tax-cutting enviromental advisor to Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana) uncle (I'm not kidding) and they would both love it.Not only would they laugh but they each could quote parts of the book to each other and say "See this part here?It proves i'm right!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to a great comic
This strip isn't carried locally but I saw the reviews here on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I love it! Compared to the staleness of many comic strips, Pastis has created a world that's insane and hilarious. This is my new favorite and now I have to start lobbying my local paper to carry PBS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excelente
Una muy buena coleccion de unos comics muy buenos... se los recomiendo a todos, me gustaron muchos las notas del autor.... estoy esperando la proxima coleccion en octubre....

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, hilarious, and informative!
First and most important, this book is hilarious. However, that's subjective, so I'll talk about something else. It's a nice deal for two or three books crammed into one. The quality seems pretty good as my book is still intact. Another one of its great features is the intro by Pastis and his comments throughout the book, which are enlightening and as hilarious as the comics themselves. This is my first comic book purchase (I've always just read them in the paper) and I plan on buying Pastis' other treasuries. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilkington United
Like the other reviewers have mentioned, we are only surmising that this book will be utter comedic genius. The master-mindless behind this text is a little Manc, Karl Pilkington, who was originally hired to simply "push the buttons" during the XFM radio broadcast of the Ricky Gervais. As Mr. Gervais and his "The Office" co-writer and friend, Stephen Merchant, soon discovered, Karl's fractured sense of reality and how Karl is unintentionally the dimmest and funniest man in Britain. They even went as far as to say that Karl was like a little toy they were able to play with only on Saturdays (when the show broadcast), but it was one thing they true looked forward to.
5-0 out of 5 stars I can't wait
I don't usually like the idea of reviewing something before it even officially exists, but I just watched the Ricky Gervais Video Podcast where Ricky previews the book with Karl, and based on Ricky's own description of the book I just know it's going to be brilliant:
5-0 out of 5 stars Chimpanze THIS! Karl Pilkington is a prophet!
Mark my words, when future generations talk judge our current civilization it will be based on the works of this man.
