5-0 out of 5 stars Are You Smart, or What? A Bizarre Book of Games & Fun for Everyone
This extrordinary book takes you deeper than a basic quiz book. It challenges your way of thinking and seeks the reader to apply diverse and lateral thinking in order to come up with what turns out to be, the most obvious answer. It challenges the mind far more that you may think and even challenges you to think. An excelent book to improve spatal orrientation, visual ques and logical thinking. Want to improve your cognition and perception? This would have to be the way. Further more, it is great to use to encourage family members to do the same and simply - THINK. A must try to anyone wanting to indulge the brain in lateral thinking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun!
I just adored this book and enjoyed every single puzzle in it.As one reviewer points out, this is a book for word puzzle enthusiasts. It might be compared to Will Shortz's "Puzzlemaster Presents" series. What I love about this book is that it can be done without the aid of a dictionary, as it uses a vocabulary from common cultural literacy (e.g. types of candy bars, etc.). I also appreciate the fact that the references aren't dated like some game books are, which can lead to frustration when I am asked to rely on my knowledge of stars from the eighties.Overall, I simply loved this book for the accessible but challenging fun it provided. I hope that Mr. Battaglia will be gracing us with another book of this type soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
This is a great book for planning a road rally!A lot of great ideas!I wish I would have had this a long time ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Step-by-step Clue Hunts
This book is not about a traditional road rally, but more a clue hunt how-to book.Clue hunts are generally run at night (for about 3-4 hours) and end at a restaurant or hall.Diane takes you step by step through the process, including clues, tips and forms. For anyone putting on a clue hunt, this is a great reference book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Book focuses on an obscure form of Road Rally
The book is reasonably OK but it should be pointed out that the focus of the book is not on Road Rally in general but on Gimmick rallies and more specifically puzzle style gimmick rallies and even more specifically puzzles like word scrambles that may not involve looking out of the vehicle. The large majority of Road Rallies in the US are not of this type and the book does not venture to explain that there are in fact many types of Road Rallies and that it is narrowly focused on a pretty obscure type. With so few books on Road Rallying this one does a disservice to the rally community by selling itself as "Road Rally" without qualification.I admit I bought for the book title alone and I was very disappointed. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The odds are against you not for you.
Winning is pure luck. There is no amount of strategy unless you are already rich. And believe it or not rich people play too. They can buy 100 tickets week.I cannot. But in reality it only takes ONE set of numbers to win anyway.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lucky Lucky !
I bought this book and sent it to my sister who lives in a Powerball state. She likes to pick her own "lucky" numbers, but I suggested that she use the numbers she gets intuitively, and add to it a good knowlege of Gail Howard's process of using "smart luck". My sister says that she feels better and stronger about her numbers, and has already had one small payout. I think that the more you study this book, the luckier you will get!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Very Useful Unless You Can Afford to Spend A Lot of Money, Buying a Lot of Tickets Per Game...
I found her concept very, VERY good, BUT, unless you're really flush and can afford to spend a great deal of money for a LOT of number combinations per game, it certainly doesn't increase your odds much. Now... there ARE folks who can afford, and DO buy, many ticket combinations per game... so for THEM this may be helpful; however, for the average person who buys only a few number combinations each game, this is a waste of time. Sorry Gail :o( !! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading information
I used to geocache and so I read this book with interest. The information is misleading ("GPSr: Slang of a GPS receiver." An initialism is hardly "slang") to slightly dangerous (the author recommends turning off the GPS for most of your trek to "save batteries." Instead of losing your breadcrumb trail back to your camp or car, why not just carry spare batteries?).

2-0 out of 5 stars More pro-space progam indoctrination . . .
Yes, I'm one of those kooks who likens the U.S. space program to a modern day Tower of Babel. On a positive note, this book is an excellent layperson's reference regarding BASIC design and operations related to the shuttle. The narrative is plainly written, and the book is well organized and the illustrations are crisp.
5-0 out of 5 stars As Good As it Gets
The book I ordered was delivered in the estimated time frame and was in the exact condition they said it was in. Other than the shipping taking a few more days than wanted it was excellent service.

5-0 out of 5 stars So, You Want To Be An Astronaut?
This is the best book on how to live, work, and live in space. It tells you all about the buttons, the menus, the toilets, the suits, etc. It even has like 7 pages for the launch with the dialogues and everything starting at T-minus 5 hours to T+plus 48 minutes. It has the same for landing, too. It tells you what's inside the shuttle, and where the stuff is located. It even describes certain space missions like Spacelab, and more! If you want to study space shuttles and become an astronaut, this book is a must! I love it! I can't stop putting it down! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Filled with interesting and educational activities
I think this book is well-organized and easy to use. Each of the 101 travel tips begins with a bullet point list that reflects the appropriate age and the skills that are reinforced by the activity.I bought it before a recent trip out of town and used one of the ideas (travel tip 48) with my six-year old.We both look forward to trying additional tips on our next trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas to keep family occupied on trips
As a mother of 5 children, I am always looking for creative ways to keep the family peace on long trips in our mini-van.This book has a large variety of different games and activities that can be done while planning the trip, en route, or at the destination. The activities are rated for various ages. Some are simple games involving only wit and imagination.Others are learning activities like journals and math games. One idea I thought I'd try on our next trip was to take along a tape recorder and record a daily account of the trip to present to a grandparent upon returning. My mother is blind and I know the kids will get a kick out of that. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun while you travel
This book is a great solution to the travel boredom blues. It is full of each word games and math games and learning games all that can be played while sitting in a car on a trip. It goes beyond the normal abc games of finding the abc's on signs or on car licence plates. It provides activities, gamaes, topics for discussion that children of all ages will enjoy.

This book will turn your ride into a fun-filled journey, with enjoyable and educational activities tokeep childrenoccupied during carpools, day trips, and long vacations. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great games. An instruction book that is also fun to read.
I bought this book after listening to a segment on NPR's Weekend Edition with Scott Simon. After listening to Jim Gladstone and Scott Simon play some of the verbal games over the air, I was interested.I wrote the name of the book, purchased from Amazon.com, and have now played nearly all of the games in the past 3 or 4 years.
5-0 out of 5 stars No boredom--and your brain will thank you!
In this day and age of constant visual and aural stimulation--marketing and advertising messages, music of all sorts, cellphones, PDAs, you name it--it's SO refreshing to see that not everyone has given up hope. Jim Gladstone is obviously someone who values the grey cells, and puts his talent as a writer where his quirky interests are. Not only is this book FULL of original and updated games that often require nothing more than what many of us had on-hand in first grade: a pencil, some paper, a little extra time and a sense of playfulness (okay, and maybe a little competitiveness, too), it's also beautifully designed, durable and very portable. Buy this book and keep it in your backpack, briefcase--whatever you drag your stuff around in. Next time you're stuck on a plane, bus or even your own car and your sick of listening to the garbage on the radio or watching the fluff on TV, pull out Gladstone's Games to Go and give your brain a much-needed workout. For parents who've had enough of GameBoys and giant headphones that keep your kids as alienated from you in the car or on a plane as they are at home, Gladstone offers some fun ways to interact that won't cramp the style of even the most jaded teen or tween. And for the rest of us who just like a good, challenging game now and then (and hate it when dinner party conversation starts to wane), you're CRAZY not to have this book at arm's reach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Smart
I decided to check out this book after reading an interview with the author at UsedWigs.com. I thought it sounded like fun for 10 bucks. Turns out that while some of the games are easy standards that I already new (Password, Ghost), the most interesting stuff here is brand new and really involving. The last board game I bought was Scattergories, which cost like $30...well, this tells you how to play that one without buying any special equipment (its obvious, but I never thought of it), so you end up getting dozens of games for less than what a single one costs when you buy the boxed version. Good deal. Smart stuff. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Car 54 where are you?
As a police officer I spend a lot of time at the donut shop or just sitting in my car sleeping. I was gaining a fair amount of weight at an increasing rate and developing a relationship with one of the donut girls. My wife Trish gave this to me as an anniversary gift. I can honestly say it has saved our marriage and my waistline. Once I get my speeding ticket quota filled I spend hours sitting in my squad car playing the games in this fine book. Sometimes I get so engrossed in the games I forget to eat lunch. Some of the games are rather challenging but overall it's a great book. Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great travel book if you have more than 1 child.
This book has a lot of things to do, but unless you like to bugged to "play" constantly on a trip, make sure you have two kids with you. There is a wide variety of things to do, so there is something for everyone.A good book to have along with other travel games.

If you want a feel for bigtime tailgating try "A Tailgater's Guide To SEC Football" by Chris Warner. It rocks!(only if you love the SEC like I do!)

5-0 out of 5 stars personas
As far as the writing goes, I am not in the position to judge, as is (mrs?) Maya Blend Champion. I was responding to the persona of poor Peurto Rican Jew, and the pain that a parent must feel to find tha he/she has been written out of the family history in favor of an adopted identity. It made me think of Mary Austin, the subject of my own published writing, and how she reconciled with her mother only shortly before her death, then went on to spend the rest of her life as a self-styled desert woman who continued to try to work out her issues with her mother in her writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars BBQing, A Way of Life
Dave Blend is a master writer. Funny, side-splitting and a hell of a guy, Dave makes me want to pack it up and move back home to Texas with his savory words about yummy BBQ! I can tell you that his book has also pleased many Alabamians. They take their tailgating mighty seriously down there, and his book has entertained my family and their friends. He has successfullypulled together the South and the Lone Star State into BBQ solidarity. We need to all go in on an RV, grab a little Salt Lick sauce, and watch some football. Thanks for this tome to BBQ and inspiring me to watch more Crimson Tide (and of course my Longhorns). If one can get me to watch football and like it... then that ONE is a great writer who should be showered with publishers, wanting all his novels. ... Read more

My four year old chose this as his book last week and although I had some reservations, I now know that I would buy another one.He kept himself occupied for hours (truly) with the scratching and trying to copy pictures. My 5, 10 and 11 year old also love it.A great time consumer as well as educational about the landmarks in it! ...
