5-0 out of 5 stars What a Blast!!!
We did these puzzles with our two older children. What a blast!I would have liked a little more variety, but the puzzles provided a good challenge. This book is worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars cool
This was a fun collection for a short while, but too many of the puzzles were based on the same theme and it became boring.Otherwise, it was a welcomed challenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Are You Smart, or What? A Bizarre Book of Games & Fun for Everyone
This extrordinary book takes you deeper than a basic quiz book. It challenges your way of thinking and seeks the reader to apply diverse and lateral thinking in order to come up with what turns out to be, the most obvious answer. It challenges the mind far more that you may think and even challenges you to think. An excelent book to improve spatal orrientation, visual ques and logical thinking. Want to improve your cognition and perception? This would have to be the way. Further more, it is great to use to encourage family members to do the same and simply - THINK. A must try to anyone wanting to indulge the brain in lateral thinking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun!
I just adored this book and enjoyed every single puzzle in it.As one reviewer points out, this is a book for word puzzle enthusiasts. It might be compared to Will Shortz's "Puzzlemaster Presents" series. What I love about this book is that it can be done without the aid of a dictionary, as it uses a vocabulary from common cultural literacy (e.g. types of candy bars, etc.). I also appreciate the fact that the references aren't dated like some game books are, which can lead to frustration when I am asked to rely on my knowledge of stars from the eighties.Overall, I simply loved this book for the accessible but challenging fun it provided. I hope that Mr. Battaglia will be gracing us with another book of this type soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars another cracker from Josh ...
Disclaimer: the fact that I have known and worked with Josh on and off for around 10 years now has little bearing on my review of this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is really another excellent book I've seen on Java. Authors try to model/abstract real-world senarios into some "silly trivia" puzzles. You may say they are "Not puzzles, just silly trivia", but if you are experienced Java developer, you will figure out what they really mean and then smile on them. I have to say I was lost in some of those puzzles before in my real-world programming history...
5-0 out of 5 stars Unique book finds pitfalls in both programs and the language itself
This book is filled with brainteasers about the Java programming language and its core libraries. Anyone with a working knowledge of Java can understand these puzzles, but many of them are tough enough to challenge even the most experienced programmer. Puzzlers are groupedaccording to the features they use, but you cannot assume that the trick to a puzzle is related to its chapter heading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Insights
There is a lot of truth to the Cube, the game has existed a long time.My son and I frequently discuss the cubes of others we have done, the game shows off all kinds of personality trends, and has never proved false.
5-0 out of 5 stars Really lets you decide what it means...
I loved The Cube not only because it helped me understand myself a bit more, but because it pushed me to take an active part in interpreting the results.Though lots of aids and examples are given to help you make sense of your results, you really are encouraged to decide what they mean to you.
5-0 out of 5 stars It was pretty great!
I wouldn't say it was horrible, it was rather great! The book consists of many games that reveal interesting things. I read one review saying that you'll only enjoy it once. Well this isn't true, because you can always try it on your friends and family. It's just more fun! 5-0 out of 5 stars The best compilation from Martin Gardner's Scientific American mathematical games column
"My best mathematical and logic puzzles" presents 70 of the best of the brain teaser that Martin Gardner published over a period of 25 years in his Mathematical games column at Scientific American. It some cases references to new developments related with specific puzzles have been added.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best of one of the best
Martin Gardner is the grand old man of puzzles and recreational mathematics. I recommend this book for intermediary and advanced puzzle enthusiasts - beginners might find some of these too challenging.5-0 out of 5 stars Puzzles requiring intermediate mathematical skills
Marvelous book. I found it better than many books but my friends, who were not that conversant with intermediate mathematics did not like it much. Though this book doesn't require a knowledge of calculus, people who have this level might appreciate the book more. But it has more to do with mathematical 'thinking' rather than mathematics itself.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Teaches great Sudoku solving techniques
I am a total beginner at sudoku, but I had fun with the dozen or so puzzles I worked on this summer's fishing trip. So I just had to get a book on the subject... but which one? I decided it would be better to get a strategy book rather than just a puzzle book. I looked at several of them, but this one caught my eye, MENSA is smart people. They should know how to do sudoku real good, huh?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful origami book
This superb book contains an enormous range of origami models representing various forms of sea life. These range from sea urchins and starfish through to the Blackdevil Angler Fish and the almost impossible to fold Chambered Nautilus Shell.I have in my time folded most of the models and my favourites include the Angler Fish, Goldfish and the Murex shell which is wonderful in a textured foil.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not Impossible, but a Challenge
I've owned this book for a number of years and only recently have I been able to fold most of the creatures in it. This book is definitely not for greenhorns, but if you look closely at every single diagramme in the book, and interpret them exactly and are very careful, every model in the book is foldable. The end result is gorgeous paper sea creatures that can impress basically anyone--yourself included. I've been amazed at how beautiful the things I'm folding from this book turn out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is one of my favorite Origami books ever. If you are thinking about getting it you should. This book will appeal to any body, from beginner to advanced. I love the models in this book. It contains various models of many genera and cover many of the marine phylums such as variety of gastropods, cephalodops, crustaceans, and many fish from Angler Fish to sharks to Sun fish. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice stocking stuffer
This little bookk, at a great price, makes a nice intro to origami. It is very basic. I found that most of the paterns in this book are repeated in Montroll's "Teach Yourself Origami," so I passed this on on to a cousin who was intrigued when she saw what I'd been doing. It's fine as far as it goes, but it isn't intended to go vary far. You can't beat the price. I thought it was a misprint.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting cartoon and puzzle combo
Is this a book of New Yorker cartoons or a puzzle book?Well, it's a little of both, and the result is a novel way to laugh and exercise your brain at the same time. Most of the 83 puzzles consist of cartoons that are missing words, captions, or picture components. By figuring out the missing elements and sometimes combining them with acrostics, crossword puzzles, or other word grids, the cartoon humor is revealed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Avid puzzle fans will find it delightfully fun
If you love crosswords and puzzle games and New Yorker complexity in particular, don't be without this oversized NEW YORKER BOOK OF CARTOON PUZZLES AND GAMES. All you need is a pencil and a mind to enjoy puzzles which are offered in a spiral bound large-format paperback lending to easier working than most puzzle books. Here are over eighty puzzles created by the puzzle writing company Puzzability: new blends rather than rehashes of old styles. Avid puzzle fans will find it delightfully fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I love the New Yorker cartoons, and I love puzzles - so this is a perfect combination.I bought four of the books. One for myself, and three to give as gifts for Christmas. They are bound very nicely, in the spiral manner that allows the book to stay open as you solve it.The production values are very good overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect challenge for any sudoku enthusiast - highly recommended!
This is definitely one of the more challenging sudoku books I've tried. The puzzles start off fairly easy, but become almost impossible to solve by the end. The book is divided into sections for easy, medium, and hard puzzles, and within each section puzzles are also ranked on a difficulty scale from one to five. I really enjoyed the challenge here, and still have not solved most of the harder ones. One particularly nice thing about this collection is that the grids are fairly large, so there's plenty of room to pencil in options and notes as you work, which is definitely a must for the more advanced puzzles! In addition, all of the solutions are provided at the back of the book, so you can check your work. I'd highly recommend this collection to any sudoku enthusiast. However, I will offer a word of warning to those who have already enjoyed this book and are looking for others like it - not all of Tammy Seto's books are the same! I've also purchased her book "Sudoku Fever," which turned out to be patronizingly easy. Even the rankest of beginners would become bored quickly. I have not, however, tried her book "Sudoku Mania," so am not sure where that falls on the difficulty scale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Sudoku: More than 200 Fun and Challenging Japanese Number Puzzles by Tammy Seto
I am currently completing the puzzles in this book and so far, am enjoying it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pretty but not useful
This book of puzzles is the most frustrating one of many I have bought. The numbers are put into pretty design arrangements that have nothing to do with the difficulty of the pattern. Some labeled beginner are quite difficult, while at least one labeled intermediate had only one step logic involved.I like to know the difficulty level before I begin so I can choose one appropriate for the time available and challenge that I am in the mood for.You have no idea with this book. There are many good books available, no reason to buy this one. ... Read more

This book offers more challenging puzzles than your average "easy" books. It was great for the addicted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done
I bought (and eventually burned) another Sudoku book which had very inaccurately grouped puzzles. It's very first puzzle, supposedly "gentle", was in fact pretty difficult. I got very annoyed with the book.

This is a nice little book of puzzles. It is as it says it is, easy. Most of the entries have 30+ squares of the 81 with given numbers, so that filling out the remaining squares is a matter of simple logic.Although nothing but the elements of the game are provided as instructions, the ease with which the puzzles are completed helps the beginner learn some of the beginning logic behind doing them.I find I enjoy discovering the "tricks" of finishing these puzzles more satisfying than I would being told before hand what they are.Certainly I learn them more thoroughly by this method, because I have to intuit them; I actually have to understand the "why" behind the manuver. In my opinion this type of learning is inherently helpful in other tasks as well; that it is to say, transferable to ones life settings in other ways--although I have to admit I couldn't tell you specifically how or why. I think getting school age children involved in doing these types of puzzles would be a good idea, since it would help them learn the principles of logical thinking without the pain of word problems. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable price. Well written. But.....
This book is a reasonably priced, well written shoppers guide. However, I really don't see what his "52 brilliant ideas are".
5-0 out of 5 stars And solve you can...
I have not been solving sudoku's for very long. But, I knewthere had to be a more methodical manner than the single cell version I was using. And, I was correct! In my opinion, this book provides any and everyone with all the techniques needed to solve sudoku's of all levels of difficulty. In just one afternoon I started solving fiendish levels of sudok puzzles. What a blast!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very pooron twins and triplets

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! I've lost sleep over these puzzles!
This book is great and ADDICTIVE! I can't do enough of them and should have gone to bed, but went on to the next puzzle instead. The paper is of high quality, however, a previous reviewer was correct about the binding. It split after only 3 or 4 puzzles and I like to keep my work all together.I wish the answers were tear out or separate so that someone can't come along and "spoil it" for you.It would also be nice if so many of the answers weren't on the same page in case you need to take a look at one puzzle and that way you could keep the element of surprise of the next puzzles you work on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple puzzle fun
I love these type of puzzles (aka Picross, Paint By Numbers, Nonograms, Griddlers, etc). This collection will please fans of these puzzle types- the paper stock is a good heft (similar to the "Paint By Numbers" release by Games Magazine so you won't be scratching holes though the pages.
