5-0 out of 5 stars What a Blast!!!
We did these puzzles with our two older children. What a blast!I would have liked a little more variety, but the puzzles provided a good challenge. This book is worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars cool
This was a fun collection for a short while, but too many of the puzzles were based on the same theme and it became boring.Otherwise, it was a welcomed challenge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun

5-0 out of 5 stars Are You Smart, or What? A Bizarre Book of Games & Fun for Everyone
This extrordinary book takes you deeper than a basic quiz book. It challenges your way of thinking and seeks the reader to apply diverse and lateral thinking in order to come up with what turns out to be, the most obvious answer. It challenges the mind far more that you may think and even challenges you to think. An excelent book to improve spatal orrientation, visual ques and logical thinking. Want to improve your cognition and perception? This would have to be the way. Further more, it is great to use to encourage family members to do the same and simply - THINK. A must try to anyone wanting to indulge the brain in lateral thinking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun!
I just adored this book and enjoyed every single puzzle in it.As one reviewer points out, this is a book for word puzzle enthusiasts. It might be compared to Will Shortz's "Puzzlemaster Presents" series. What I love about this book is that it can be done without the aid of a dictionary, as it uses a vocabulary from common cultural literacy (e.g. types of candy bars, etc.). I also appreciate the fact that the references aren't dated like some game books are, which can lead to frustration when I am asked to rely on my knowledge of stars from the eighties.Overall, I simply loved this book for the accessible but challenging fun it provided. I hope that Mr. Battaglia will be gracing us with another book of this type soon!

Hilarious, creative, and disturbingly useful.A great read for pure entertainment value, though you will secretly consider actually using these equations to simplify difficult daily decisions.

All the self-help books are beginning to sound the same.NOT SO with Geek Logik. From a psychology perspective, I think following Garth Sundem's advice may be the best thing since Freud (sorry Garth). His approach is not only intuitively sound but mathematically sound (so he claims). It's a difficult book to put down except when you're laughing so hard you can no longer see the words.Merry Christmas to my whole Christmas list!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the two mentalism Bibles
This, along with Corinda's "13 Steps to Mentalism" is an absolute essential for anybody that wants to get into the art of mindreading. It covers all of the main ruses, and Anneman's work with Billets is, in my opinion, unparalleled. Some effects are somewhat dated (i.e. some effects encorporate the "magician's force", which is now widly known by the layman), but considering it was first published in 1944 this is to be expected.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
Excellent book! This is the best book on magic I have read. It contains well over 100 routines (I started to write tricks, however most of these routines are too complete and well developed to be called tricks.) Each routine tells the effect, any preparation necessary, and the details of performing the routine. These details are were I feel this book shines. It gives suggestions on exact hand placement at all times, the type of patter to use and when to use it, as well as many other forms of misdirection. Being an older reprint some materials suggested are a little out dated, however I found it easy to find modern substitutes. If you like magic and particularly mental magic, this book is a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has most topics that you see at an Olympiad
This book has a lot of topics that you see at a mathematical competition, like IMO. It has Number Theory, Geometry, Games, Combinatorics and many strategies to solve a difficult and exciting problem. I recommend this book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for everyone who loves mathematics
I disagree with another reviewer(Math Messiah) who thinks this is a book only for intelligent people like himslf. I also have an advice for the Math Messiah who is on brink of some major discoveries: hold on to that brink, and don't drop. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best compilation from Martin Gardner's Scientific American mathematical games column
"My best mathematical and logic puzzles" presents 70 of the best of the brain teaser that Martin Gardner published over a period of 25 years in his Mathematical games column at Scientific American. It some cases references to new developments related with specific puzzles have been added.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best of one of the best
Martin Gardner is the grand old man of puzzles and recreational mathematics. I recommend this book for intermediary and advanced puzzle enthusiasts - beginners might find some of these too challenging.5-0 out of 5 stars Puzzles requiring intermediate mathematical skills
Marvelous book. I found it better than many books but my friends, who were not that conversant with intermediate mathematics did not like it much. Though this book doesn't require a knowledge of calculus, people who have this level might appreciate the book more. But it has more to do with mathematical 'thinking' rather than mathematics itself.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All the things you've ever underlined
This book is a great way to "remember" all the teaching techniques you forget to use. It's like a compilation of all those ideas you've underlined over the years in all the different books and articlesyou've read.I agree with Minnesota above that there are probably bookswith more ideas, but the size and format of this book makes it practical: easy to take with you, easy to review, and easy to immediately implement.Iespecially like the format of the book...one page per topic (like "Howto Engage the Spatial-Episodic Memory"), a brief one or two paragraphsummary of the theory and then a bullet-list of ideas. I am glad to havethis book and recommend it to busy teachers like myself who have to"read and run".

2-0 out of 5 stars Simplistic and ordinary

4-0 out of 5 stars Teaches great Sudoku solving techniques
I am a total beginner at sudoku, but I had fun with the dozen or so puzzles I worked on this summer's fishing trip. So I just had to get a book on the subject... but which one? I decided it would be better to get a strategy book rather than just a puzzle book. I looked at several of them, but this one caught my eye, MENSA is smart people. They should know how to do sudoku real good, huh?

1-0 out of 5 stars This book inspired me to take a krap on the book.
I mean, really, why is skill at solving crossword puzzles the measure of brilliance? It's an arbitrary standard. If you are an enthusiast for sitting down all day long and working out puzzles, you will inevitably develop skill at it.However, human personality varies like the fingerprint. As such, enthusiasms vary. Therefore, to assert that command over a particular skill is a measure of brilliance is arbitrary to say the least.I'm not interested in basketball, but Michael Jordon clearly surpasses most I know of at that skill. If throwing a basketball around the court were the standard, I'm sure nearly all Mensa members would be deemed retards.Similarly, I wonder how many of them can paint a portrait or compose a melody. How many of them are theologically sound? As a round table group, probably none. Thus, although I've come to enjoy such trivial puzzles, I refuse to endow any maestro of such puzzles with any emblem of distinction in comparison to the rest of the human race.

5-0 out of 5 stars Parting with the critics
I must part with the critics. I enjoyed this one tremendously. Great fun. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A brief comment
This book by well known and long-time Mensa member Marvin Grosswirth complements the several books that Dr. Abby Salny has put out. There's enough variety in the types of questions to keep just about anybody entertained, although a few of the questions I'm not used to seeing on the older, more traditional IQ tests. Supposedly almost a quarter of a million people have bought the various Mensa Quiz books, which is interesting, because Mensa's membership (I being one) has been gradually declining for a couple of decades. Overall a good book of puzzles, brain teasers and IQ questions to keep those mental muscles in tune, which is important--one of the most important things brain scientists have learned over the last several decades is that the brain is very much like a muscle--either you use it or lose it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting cartoon and puzzle combo
Is this a book of New Yorker cartoons or a puzzle book?Well, it's a little of both, and the result is a novel way to laugh and exercise your brain at the same time. Most of the 83 puzzles consist of cartoons that are missing words, captions, or picture components. By figuring out the missing elements and sometimes combining them with acrostics, crossword puzzles, or other word grids, the cartoon humor is revealed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Avid puzzle fans will find it delightfully fun
If you love crosswords and puzzle games and New Yorker complexity in particular, don't be without this oversized NEW YORKER BOOK OF CARTOON PUZZLES AND GAMES. All you need is a pencil and a mind to enjoy puzzles which are offered in a spiral bound large-format paperback lending to easier working than most puzzle books. Here are over eighty puzzles created by the puzzle writing company Puzzability: new blends rather than rehashes of old styles. Avid puzzle fans will find it delightfully fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I love the New Yorker cartoons, and I love puzzles - so this is a perfect combination.I bought four of the books. One for myself, and three to give as gifts for Christmas. They are bound very nicely, in the spiral manner that allows the book to stay open as you solve it.The production values are very good overall.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not your average "easy" Sudoku!
This book offers more challenging puzzles than your average "easy" books. It was great for the addicted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done
I bought (and eventually burned) another Sudoku book which had very inaccurately grouped puzzles. It's very first puzzle, supposedly "gentle", was in fact pretty difficult. I got very annoyed with the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is what it says it is, Easy.
This is a nice little book of puzzles. It is as it says it is, easy. Most of the entries have 30+ squares of the 81 with given numbers, so that filling out the remaining squares is a matter of simple logic.Although nothing but the elements of the game are provided as instructions, the ease with which the puzzles are completed helps the beginner learn some of the beginning logic behind doing them.I find I enjoy discovering the "tricks" of finishing these puzzles more satisfying than I would being told before hand what they are.Certainly I learn them more thoroughly by this method, because I have to intuit them; I actually have to understand the "why" behind the manuver. In my opinion this type of learning is inherently helpful in other tasks as well; that it is to say, transferable to ones life settings in other ways--although I have to admit I couldn't tell you specifically how or why. I think getting school age children involved in doing these types of puzzles would be a good idea, since it would help them learn the principles of logical thinking without the pain of word problems. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - Much too difficult for children.
I bought this book based on the other reviews below, but wish I had not. The riddles in this book are much, much too difficult for children under the age of 13 or 14.My grandkids found them so difficult, they soon lost all interest. Fortunately, I had brought some other games along in the car for our long trip. I feel mislead; who wrote those reviews anyway? No child of "5 years old", as one reviewer said, could possibly do any of these riddles. Maybe a good gift for a high school or college student, but elementary kids definitely are not ready for this. Wish I could get my money back.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great riddle book
I purchased this book because I saw it online while researching riddles.I use this book in my classroom as a transition tool. When moving from one activity to another, I will write a riddle on the board or read one out loud. This allows the students to stop focusing on their previous activity and focus on solving the riddle. After we solve the riddle, we can move on to our next activity.
5-0 out of 5 stars the perfect riddle book
i bought this for my riddle-crazy 11-year-old, and it has drawn in her 14- and 18-year-old sisters and me as well.the level of the riddles is not too hard for an 11-year-old, but not too easy for an adult.the layout of the book is engaging, and the way the answers are arranged at the end means that when looking up one answer it is hard to accidentally read the answer to the next one.absolutely perfect. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Too Difficult For Beginners
I still have not solved the first easy puzzle.I plan to burn this book in my backyard with an elaborate ceremony. The very first easy puzzle requires the most advanced techniques to solve.I have not even looked at the others.Give me a few Walmart specials to start with, just to see if I like the hobby to begin with!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I bought this book because I had done a couple of the puzzles in the daily newspaper and had quite a bit of fun with them.I recommend this to anyone who has just started playing around with Sudoku and would like to know what level of difficulty they are comfortable with. The progression of difficulty from "easy" to "fiendish" is very consistent throughout the book, which allows you to be fairly certain about your current level of skill.Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it prompted me to purchase the New York Post "difficult" book, which contains 200 puzzles that are all fairly challenging without being extremely frustrating.

1-0 out of 5 stars Japan's Revenge For WWII?
I'm assuming everyone reading this knows what Sudoku is, right? Numbers game, fad of the `00's, left-brain challenge, etc. etc. etc. Okay, that said, if you like this supposedly addictive little game, you'll love this book. I mean if you're a Sudoku fan you'll likely just be left grinning ear to ear in pacified delight at what's inside. However, if you're sane, you don't own a collection of pocket protectors, and/or want my advice: run for your life! IMHO Sudoku is even less fun than the joyous delight that was trig class, and is for sure a form of torture devised in the malevolent dungeons of some university psychology department funded by the remnants of public mind control agents unemployed since the breakup of the USSR. How can this be fun? I got this as a present (uh, if you're reading this, Dad, thank you, I Love It!) and tried to get into it and was left with my hair standing on end, shivering under a blanket, muttering like a bag lady, a traumatized shadow of my normally vigorous self. But hey, if undertaking this evil puzzle is your cuppa, go for it. This book has it all where Sudoku is concerned, and isa bargain at half the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great portable Sudoku!
This book is perfect for sticking in your tote bag while on the go.I enjoy the different puzzles ranging from easy to fiendish.Although I mainly stick to the difficult/fiendish section, I will have a desire to do an easy puzzle from time to time. The price can't be beat either. The font is easy on the eyes, and the paper is easy to write and erase on (mistakes? really? :)
