5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
This book is a great follow up to Little Green Book. There are 74 hands from real life play that Phil explains in detail so that you can learn while the situation unfolds.I like how Phil reduces the hands to their basic fundamentals and reinforces those key lessons in each hand - I think taking the complexity out of certain situations is key to success in real play, especially when there are so many emotional and maybe physical stresses on a players concentration once they are in the live situation.I have found myself facing many of the same situations that are in this book, and it was insightful and sometimes reassuring to see how a real professional handles the same hand.Overall a great addition to my poker literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
A very easy read for those of us that want to learn more about poker but, can't take too much theory.Great format.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book from a great teacher
This book is great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Better applied for limit
This books stradegy should be used strictly for limit because the stradegies gordon uses will get you in trouble in no limit and save you chips in limit. If your looking to improve your game in no limit holdem, there is many books that will help you. Evan beginners should go a different route. Phil Gordon appears to be a nice human being and all and he writes good literature but thats all it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Distillation.
Having generally gone through Phil Gordons' little book, I wholeheartedly recommend it as a necessary item for anyone's poker library.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great..
Essential reading for the beginner.. interesting for the intermediate - and lots of fun for anyone else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Actually manages to take the fun out of reading and texas holdem all in one go
I was hoping the book would be good.most reviews are. However the topics are not really covered at all, more introduced. It was like talking to a drunk bloke about sports, most points are important and relevant but its presented in a way that makes it confusing. They openly admit they dont want the book to be rated on the quality of the english.Just as well, long rambling thaughts that don't form conclusions. Not what I wanted or needed. It actually manages to take the fun out of reading and texas holdem all in one go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not A Light Read
This is not a book to read while drinking a beer and watching the ballgame on TV. Like most Sklansky books, it's packed with information delivered in a dry, straightforward style reminicsent of college math or engineering texts. The ideas, while often subtle, are very powerful if the reader will take the time to read, re-read, and probe them in poker games and out.
1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult
I've read (or tried to read) this book three times over the course of several months.I am displeased on several levels.I want to let people know other books are far better.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book in your Creativity & Innovation Library, & must-have card deck on your desk top!
I am a raving fan of Roger von Oech's creative work as embodied in his books & card decks, namely: 5-0 out of 5 stars Gives You A Fresh Perspective
I've been a long time fan of the Creative Whack Pack. I recently got the Innovative Whack Pack, and have found it to be just as powerful in stimulating my creativity. I especially like the way it combines ancient wisdom with practical creativity techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Companion to the Creative Whack Pack
I'm the creator of this deck, and I had fun putting it together. It's like the Creative Whack Pack in that it has provocative and useful strategies for looking at problems and issues in a fresh way. Also, George Willett has done the illustrations (just as he has done for all of my other products). It differs from the CWP in that the stories and examples are a little longer, and also that each card has a 2,500 year old innovation insight (from Heraclitus) on one side and a creativity strategy on the other. Thus, you can use either side to provoke your thinking. In case you're interested, my two favorite insights in the deck are: "The way up and the way down are one and the same," and, "A thing rests by changing." My favorite way of using the deck is to pick one card at random in the morning, and have it be one of my innovation thoughts of the day. If you enjoyed the Creative Whack Pack, I think you'll get a kick (and some ideas) from the Innovative Whack Pack. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great book with new ideas
Very original with more incites than any other book about online poker. There is no guarantees with poker as you may know, and even less of a guarantee with online poker. But there are new straties and ideas to consider in this book. If you can still play online poker i strongly recommened this book

4-0 out of 5 stars Packed with good tips
I give this book a thumbs up.I enjoy reading poker books, but many of them have the same advice.I found this book to have plenty of new, exciting strategies and tips.

2-0 out of 5 stars A bit misleading

4-0 out of 5 stars I Like the Re-Coloring
I use the Rider-Waite Deck all the time to do my readings, and so I was fascinated with this deck. One reads so many books which describe things in the cards which one cannot see so easily in the Rider-Waite. When I got the deck and went through it, I could see those things - like the river in the Emperor card and the Death card. You can see the water body more clearly in the High Priestess.
4-0 out of 5 stars very nice
I got this set for Christmas, several years ago.Unfortunately, I lost the deck while moving out of my college dorm room but I recently bought a new one.As of yet, I have no other decks to compare this to but I think it is well suited for both beginners and experts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite colour depth and clairity
Having started with the Original Rider Waite, I needed a deck that easier on my eyes. The Universal Waite does the trick. I get a stronger feeling of awareness, within a 3 diminsion visual per card. I highly recommend this version for anyone just starting out. The clairity and colours of the cards are too good to pass up.

3-0 out of 5 stars The cards are new and improved but the Waite book is horrible.
In my opinion, the book was written in very vague, complex, language. There is no way to describe the disappointment. Tarot "experts" have raved about Waite being THE guru of Tarot.Personally, it was like reading Old English.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a starter deck...
This was my first deck. The cards look 2 diminsional to me. The colours and inking are just too plain and confusing. I don't get enough depth in this deck as compaired to the Universal Waite.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rider Waite Tarot
As one of the original tarot decks, it was nice to see what the initial concepts were for many of the newly inspired decks.I have to admit, compared some of the newer-modern decks, you can't beat the original!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Conceptual Poker Book.
I heard about Inside the Poker Mind from a few players who post at a forum I frequent, and I finally got around to purchasing it. Frankly, I have difficulty believing anybody gave this one less than 5 stars because it is a rare and excellent work. I will admit that it is not a book for beginners or even those who have yet to read Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold `Em, but it offers extensive benefits for the intermediate player on up. Inside... is basically a collection of essays concerning topics seldom discussed, or not addressed in detail, within the typical "how to" manual. Feeney, despite having a PhD and being an accomplished high stakes player, is not broadcasting to readers from Phil Ivey-ian heights. Feeney ground out poker at the lowest levels before becoming the player he is today. His experiences in the small limits ring true for those of us dwelling in them today. My favorite essay in here, "How am I doing? Who Cares?", warns readers not to be results oriented in regards to sessions. Variance is sometimes mind-boggling, but what we must do is concentrate on playing correctly despite our aces being snapped or getting cold-decked. Really, the entire Part IV section on poker and emotion is sensational. His definition of tilt is much more subtle than the ones generally offered, and, I believe, it is much more accurate. Overall, with brilliant analysis and clear style, Inside... is far better than most of its competitors. It's for the thinking man which is what everyone should aspire to be if they want to make any money out of the game.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is a Book of Cautionary Tales; Not a Strategic Text
I find the title of this book to be slightly misleading: "Inside the Poker Mind" is a collection of essays on what NOT to do as a poker player (e.g. do not get smug and play weak cards, do not go on tilt, do not overestimate your odds, do not play beyond your means, do not take bad beats personally, etc.). From the title one might expect the text to relate in some way to getting "into the mind" of one's opponent (i.e. the text may have some strategic advice); this is simply not the case. There are a handful of strategic plays involved in this book, and some consideration of reading hands. However, these are addressed from the perspective of how not to make a mistake in either overusing certain strategies, or being too rigid in the face of changing conditions in the hand.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic hold'em book for experienced players
This is one of my favorite poker books. It is not for beginners; it is filled with interesting and advanced topics in limit Hold'em.This is a good book for any reader who is looking to read more advanced material. The section titled "Do You Pass the Ace-Queen Test?" was controversial when the book first came out, but Feeney's thoughts has proven to be correct. The Short-Handed essays are illuminating as well.Definitely a great addition to any hold'em library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars game-trained brainpower
Any book with Nicolas Taleb in the forward grabs my attention. After having read Justice Little's five star rating (one of the best finance reviewers on amazon) and the first pages i ordered the book and was thrilled.
4-0 out of 5 stars A refreshingly different take on beating probability games
Written in an intellectual but comfortable style that doesn't require too much work to decipher, yet still inspires "light bulb above the head" thought from the reader. The author obviously intended on having the book placed on shelves between "Fooled by Randomness" and "The Education of a Speculator."
1-0 out of 5 stars Needs Editing
The author here is well-read, but not a self-editor.The book is confused: pages of poker hand values (this is news?), pages of rather uninteresting tales of past poker hands played, a few interesting views of what is wrong with mathematical rules for playing poker. Also, some very confused ruminations on the value of poker and gambling to economic development.Needs work. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars For Absolute Beginners
The boom in online poker has brought with it an equal boom in how-to handbooks for internet players. The problem is that they're all pretty useless, for the very simple reason that:
2-0 out of 5 stars Boring
The book contians standard information, is written somewhat blandly, and doesn't reveal anything the myriad other poker books have already covered.
5-0 out of 5 stars good book, even better starting chart
Teaches the ins and outs of poker and will help any beginer improve his game. The flop chart is the best asset, follow it and it will help eliminate alot of beginer mistakes. not for advanced readers, but if you are an advanced player Middle limit poker by ciaffane is the best book out i feel for the advanced. This book and the ciafane book are the only two poker books you need if you are beginer or play poker at all. Has turned around my bottom line dramatically ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Read This Book - I Don't Want You To Beat Me
I have played online tournaments for several years now and usually bust out in the third hour just short of the money, despite frequently being in the top 10 players at the one- and two-hour take-a-5-minute-break points. The few times I have won big prizes, I could never figure out why - the last hour always seemed like such a whirlwind as theblinds escalated.
4-0 out of 5 stars Add a new dimension to your play...
Great book.Explains a lot of things you see happening in tournaments but didnt know why. The stuff in this book really works (although it is a bit scary to try at times...)
1-0 out of 5 stars Not what it promises
This book is geared to what the author calls speed tournaments, those with relatively low starting chip counts and fastly increasing blind structures.

5-0 out of 5 stars A true rectified gallery of the Archetypes
_I finally broke down and treated myself to this giant Rider-Waite tarot deck. I own multiple decks of the standard size and the miniature deck, but I always wanted this larger example of contemplation. I don't use them for reading, but they are perfect for contemplation of the symbolism.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rider-Waite Tarot Deck
SUPERB! I am a first timer buying these cards and new to tarot reading as well. The cards not only came with a bit of instruction, but also a bit of history on the deck and some information on the different meanings of the cards. This info along with my web studies has proven to be invaluable! Great deal!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Idea, Sort of
A Giant size tarot deck would be just the thing to use as a visual aide for a talk to a group of people, and this deck will do nicely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
If your goal is to play big money tournaments - take the first step and read this book! The tips in this book can save you A lot of heartach and time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tired of cashing in events but not winning.
This book is named appropriately.I played TJ Cloutier tight for a long time.I made the money a lot but I was always short stacked once I made the money.I still play tight-aggressive in the early levels of tournaments but this book really changes my image of the middle levels and bubble play.A week after I bought this book I won two events with over 2000 entrants each (only $20 entries and I made over $15,000).I credit this book.If you a beginning player, this book is not for you. But if you are a solid tournament player looking to improve your game, this book is a good place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small bit of great content, and lots of filler
I do recommend this book overall. There are several chapters of detailed strategy for NL tournament play, and it's crisp, readable, and to the point. But there's maybe 30 pages worth of it, if that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not much changed from previous edition, binding issues
Overall I liked the book however I had the previous edition and there wasn't that much that was added for this edition, so if you have the previous edition of the book - you are good to go.The other problem I had was with the glue and the binding as the other reviewer stated. The pages are popping out of the binding.Otherwise, it still is a good book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book fell apart

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
One of the best books of its genre of true stories about poker personalities and situations.I have read a bunch of them and this one is the most interesting and well-written.Most intriguing is what the banker with an unlimited bankroll and singlemindedness is able to do against the pros. And the saga continues on even today.Apparently, he returned this year to challenge again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent techniques and written very well
I am fairly new to card magic / artifice / subterfuge and this book was great. I find his way of explaining hand positions superior to that of Hugard and Braue's material. I also enjoy the way he writes far more... The introduction alone is worth the price. The techniques are great because one doesn't have to rely on diversion, most of the sleights can be pulled off with the spectator's eyes directly on the pack.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Magicians
Some book are just required. As a professional magician this book is absolutely a must have in my collection. The material is sometimes difficult to understand, but if you are truly serious about it, then you will get through it and the rewards for your performance skills are practically endless.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible.
Don't believe the positive reviews, this book is awful. It's rambling, imprecise, and purely anecdotal, the worst example of the unhelpful "play the player" style of the lesser poker books.Over and over again TJ's grand sum total of advice in all kinds of different situations is to "learn your opponents" so you can "make moves" and "then you can really play poker".And that is it, the entire enumeration of the "strategy".Nothing about how to go about actually -learning- your opponents, nothing about -moves- to make, nothing about his way of -really playing poker-.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
Like most of Cloutier's books, this reads like a transcript of conversations with him.It is not that well organized, and more specific examples would be helpful.BUT, you learn about the thought process of one of the best.It is hard to imagine too many serious players, who would not benefit from reading this book and thinking about the ideas.I probably won't re-read this book as often as Harrington or Gordon's, but it will be on the active part of my poker bookshelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inside TJ's Mind
I have almost 30 books on Hold'em. Other than Harrington's books which are excellent, almost none put you really, and I mean REALLY inside the mind of the author/player (Erick Lindgren's book does a good job of this though). I've had the good fortune to have met TJ a couple of times, and ask him some questions. But in How To Win The Championship he brings you into his thought process, to the point where he even says that some more mathematical players may not agree, but he does it so-and-so way and here's why. The information is non-stop, with essentially no fluff. But be warned, if you are just a beginning player who hasn't played in a tournament before, he doesn't go into basics and it doesn't tell you what to do at the beginning or middle stages of a tournament. This is really for a bit more experienced player. His book essentially starts off at the point where you are 1 table before getting into the money and goes on from there to heads up. Being a tournament player myself (I don't play cash games much at all), this book is perfect. I better understand why I've hit walls in the past and how I need to adjust my play to win or at least get into the top 3. I get in the money a reasonable number of times in live tournaments but have real trouble breaking into that upper pay echelon. He gives great advice on how not to flame out when you just make it into the money but not into the bigger money. Really key points that I haven't seen in other books. I realize that at some point we all need to stop buying all these books (yeah, learning never stops but 30 books? I must be a junkie!), but I really can say if you want to improve your tournament play, TJ's book is a must. His writing style is like he's talking to you about exactly what he does and why (also what he doesn't do and why you shouldn't either).
