5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING BOOK!
I have read this book multiple times and it has increased my poker skills in house games with my friends significantly! It lets you in on all the basics and ends with advanced strategies. Overall a great book! [...] I recommend to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Hold Em Book. Lot of bang for your buck
I highly recomend this book. After finishing it I decided to give it a try in online poker. I entered a tournament with 662 people. Early in the tournament I took the chip lead and made it all the way to the final table with the chip lead. All in all I finished third. Not too bad considering I'm a very inexperienced player.
5-0 out of 5 stars these 3 volumes will pay for themselves
i've never played a deep stack tournament before.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
This will take your no limit tournament game to a new level!I would recommed to anyone who plays NLH tournaments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gook NLHE Book
This book describes Harrington's NLHE tournament play. While his explainations are easy to understand, I found his style hard to play in real life. All the tips and a pro's insight make this book a worthwhile buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Bible" for tournaments
"Action" Dan may not have won WSOP titles lately, but he seems to hit a lot of final tables. Clearly his tight aggressive style, documented in this (and the prequel) book is a good reason why.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better left unpublished
Doyles section is basically the same and is why it got 2 stars in the first place. I feel the poker pros were not used properly for this book. Daniel negranu is a coward fordoing three card draw that has no merit on real card tables and he should of just declined it in the first place,he is a no limit and omaha 8 or better expert and should of wrote on that instead. Bobby baldwin was the most sound poker player during his time, kind of like alan cunningham of today. So I dont know why he didnt write the limit chapter again,I think modern day limit players would have really been in for a treat. I have nothing against jeniffer harmen writing it but I think it was better served for baldwin. Please save your money and dont buy this book. If need be they should have it at your local library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to different poker games.
I haven't read the original Super System so I can't compare the two and tell you if this one is worth buying if you already have that one, so I'll just stick to reviewing "Super System 2".
4-0 out of 5 stars Not really "essential" like the first , but still a good idea to get it
This belongs in any poker library, just not on the top shelf. It's a hyped-up "good" book, but not a "great" book like the first Super System.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book with new ideas
Very original with more incites than any other book about online poker. There is no guarantees with poker as you may know, and even less of a guarantee with online poker. But there are new straties and ideas to consider in this book. If you can still play online poker i strongly recommened this book

4-0 out of 5 stars Packed with good tips
I give this book a thumbs up.I enjoy reading poker books, but many of them have the same advice.I found this book to have plenty of new, exciting strategies and tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glitz and Glamour in Vegas.
If you can get past Barry Greensteins' peculiar writing style, then the depth of the fabulous life in Vegas will be yours.
3-0 out of 5 stars Thin on poker
The book does have a few good examples and gives insight into thephilosophy and life of Mr. Greenstein. This gives nice insight into the world of professional poker. The book does not spend a lot of time on the specifics of thinking yourself through situations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and articualate
I can't believe the reviews that pan this wonderful book. Barry gives us some hands to ponder the math and much much more. In addition on his website he includeds some information that was cut from the Book. I advise anyone who is seriously considering the life of a poker professional to read and take heed to this book. I found the book very informative about the world inside the ring. I think its a must read for anyone who has advanced beyond the level of maniac. There is no magic system, no holy grail and no greatest poker player. On any given day you could be the greatest player or a donk. Experienced players know the pot odds and the theory. This book provides good info and great advice. ... Read more

this book is like no other 2+2 book~ its well edited.
4-0 out of 5 stars Typical 2+2 book: thought-provoking, but a little short on hard data
I originally bought this 'cause I've been playing seven-card stud and was curious about Stud/8, but reading the Omaha/8 sectionmotivated me into learning it first.
5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Reading for all good O8 players
This is the book which has been read by all the Pros. If you do not read it you are at a major disadvantage. In fact at the higher limits its impossible to play well without reading the section on starting hands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tells are of second nature in poker!!!!!!!
Mike Caro is really a genious at his craft. This book really isnt for the faint of heart. If you truely want to win at poker and be a consistent winner you must put in the time. Yes poker is gambling and in an essence everything in life is a gamble, but just like a Doctor or a lawyer or teacher they all had to learn there craft and then master it. This book is a key ingredient to success in poker, yes the book came out a long time ago and I wish I would of known about it because its hard to break old habbits, but this book transformed my game to new heights. If you dont like money theres always the 9-5 job:)

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book

5-0 out of 5 stars This is IT !!!!
Used to play a lot of cash games, but took a look over at tournaments due to the high Expected Value.I tried my cash game strategy out on a few Sit 'n Go's and a couple Multi-Table Tournaments thinking that since I could rock any ring game I sat down at that it would transfer over to these tournaments just as well. After about 6 loses I started to get really frustrated.Even though the buy-in's were low, my cash game strategy just didn't hold up in tournaments.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Bible of Poker and Poker Theory
Anyserious poker player should read it several times throughout their poker career.
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE TOP 3 BOOKS ON POKER!!!
David Sklansky's THEORY OF POKER is a MUST HAVE for anyone looking to improve their game. Sklansky focuses on many different challenges in poker and explains the difference between poker players and professional poker players. His poker theorem focuses on making decisions on the felt, and how positive long-term decisions are more important than positive short-term decisions. My goal is to become a professional poker player. Even though I'm not their yet, I am certain that without this book, I would have a lot of trouble making those critical desicions! Listen to those who gave it 5 stars. I am sooooo surprised this book is only $20! WEEEEELLLLLL worth the money! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All star book
The foundation of poker is in this book and is explained by the best there is there was and ever will be. Class dismissed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Original Poker Book
If you're a poker player and you haven't read this book then just remember, all the other players around you have. It's a great book particularly Chip Reese's section on stud. The classic chapter, Doyle's No Limit musings is also a must read for serious players. However, a few things should be noted by any reader not wanting to lose half their bankroll in the first hour after digesting the material.1.Doyle is famous for his uncanny reading ability. When he talks about being willing to "take the worst hand sometimes" he doesn't mean that you should just start pushing all in any time you flop a gut shot draw.2. For his whole adult life he's played in the highest stakes games on Earth. Many of the concepts about aggression only apply if your opponenets are willing to fold certain hands. In uber Low Limit poker with unskilled fish abound it's extremely difficult to apply Doyle's concepts.3. The game has changed alot since
4-0 out of 5 stars Good to breeze through, as it covers several different games
Material that is mixed between introductory and advanced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read, but not all praise
If you were ever interested in card counting this book is for you. Not because it guarantees the edge against the casino with 10 simple rule, because it doesn't, but because it outlines several good strategies to maintain a small edge (or in some cases a smaller disadvantage) over the casino establishment.
2-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
Great book on this classic strategy. Thorp got even richer using a similar system in the stock market. (Although it was during the bull years...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Wide-ranging strategy guide by a poker pro
This a beautifully produced, pricey paperback covering the poker games that Chan plays.Of course, he doesn't just play, he wins big.By my count, he's won ten WSOP events.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Saw this book on amazon.com and figured, what the hell, I'll buy it and see what happens.Got it a week later, read the section on limit hold em first, since that's about the only game I play well, and was surprised my gameplay was very different to what was mentioned. After reading it and trying out the different techniques, I was pleasantly surprised to see my profits increasing.Well worth the price and the time to read.Have since read through the other sections and am finding myself getting some good earnings in Omaha and 5 card stud as well, although 5 card stud is a bit tricky.
5-0 out of 5 stars An in-depth discussion of card-counting or related mathematical methodology
A solid "how-to" guide co-written by the highly-regarded poker player Johnny Chan, whose titles include 2002 WSOP Match Play NLH Champion and 2003 WSOP No Limit Hold-em Champion among many others, Play Poker Like Johnny Chan: Book One Casino Poker is a simple guide to poker basics for players who are out to win. Chapters discuss general poker concepts for the uninitiated, and the rules and favorable versus unfavorable situations for many poker variants including Limit Hold-em, Seven Card Stud, Eight Or Better Stud, Omaha High, Omaha Hi-Low, and No-Limit Hold-em. Some background information on tournaments and internet poker is included, as is general (and very sound) strategy advice for the would-be career poker player, as well as a mentions of famous and skilled individuals Chan has played with. Notably absent from Play Poker Like Johnny Chan is any in-depth discussion of card-counting or related mathematical methodology; it is primarily an introductory guide to give the reader a hands-on understanding of game mechanics as well as the importance of the professional mindset. Chan's key rules - keep playing when you are winning, stop when you are losing, stay to an environment where you feel comfortable, take a vacation from poker when you need it (never try to win the money needed for a vacation from poker when you need one, that's a certain way to burnout), and discipline yourself to move back down to smaller tables when you're losing at big tables - are vital and should be taken to heart by all prospective professional poker players. Full-color photographs illustrate this handy primer, which is printed on glossy paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Conceptual Poker Book.
I heard about Inside the Poker Mind from a few players who post at a forum I frequent, and I finally got around to purchasing it. Frankly, I have difficulty believing anybody gave this one less than 5 stars because it is a rare and excellent work. I will admit that it is not a book for beginners or even those who have yet to read Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold `Em, but it offers extensive benefits for the intermediate player on up. Inside... is basically a collection of essays concerning topics seldom discussed, or not addressed in detail, within the typical "how to" manual. Feeney, despite having a PhD and being an accomplished high stakes player, is not broadcasting to readers from Phil Ivey-ian heights. Feeney ground out poker at the lowest levels before becoming the player he is today. His experiences in the small limits ring true for those of us dwelling in them today. My favorite essay in here, "How am I doing? Who Cares?", warns readers not to be results oriented in regards to sessions. Variance is sometimes mind-boggling, but what we must do is concentrate on playing correctly despite our aces being snapped or getting cold-decked. Really, the entire Part IV section on poker and emotion is sensational. His definition of tilt is much more subtle than the ones generally offered, and, I believe, it is much more accurate. Overall, with brilliant analysis and clear style, Inside... is far better than most of its competitors. It's for the thinking man which is what everyone should aspire to be if they want to make any money out of the game.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is a Book of Cautionary Tales; Not a Strategic Text
I find the title of this book to be slightly misleading: "Inside the Poker Mind" is a collection of essays on what NOT to do as a poker player (e.g. do not get smug and play weak cards, do not go on tilt, do not overestimate your odds, do not play beyond your means, do not take bad beats personally, etc.). From the title one might expect the text to relate in some way to getting "into the mind" of one's opponent (i.e. the text may have some strategic advice); this is simply not the case. There are a handful of strategic plays involved in this book, and some consideration of reading hands. However, these are addressed from the perspective of how not to make a mistake in either overusing certain strategies, or being too rigid in the face of changing conditions in the hand.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic hold'em book for experienced players
This is one of my favorite poker books. It is not for beginners; it is filled with interesting and advanced topics in limit Hold'em.This is a good book for any reader who is looking to read more advanced material. The section titled "Do You Pass the Ace-Queen Test?" was controversial when the book first came out, but Feeney's thoughts has proven to be correct. The Short-Handed essays are illuminating as well.Definitely a great addition to any hold'em library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book for novices!
I am a novice at Omaha/8, so I write from that perspective.I have Zee's book and Cloutier's book.Neither of them come close to offering the material Tenner and Krieger present in "Winning Omaha 8" for the beginning player.I think Zee and Cloutier believe you already know this stuff; Tenner and Krieger make no such supposition and start from scratch.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Omaha8 book.
There is very little material out there on this game. If you follow Mark's advice you will win in the low to middle limit games. The style is tight and somewhat boring but it works.

The book was very good, but one thing it did not discuss that often happens in Omaha 8, is when a player flops three pair with zero, one, two, or three small cards on the flop, and then on the turn now has 4 pair. What about it Mark? email rhea2@cox.net ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars For Absolute Beginners
The boom in online poker has brought with it an equal boom in how-to handbooks for internet players. The problem is that they're all pretty useless, for the very simple reason that:
2-0 out of 5 stars Boring
The book contians standard information, is written somewhat blandly, and doesn't reveal anything the myriad other poker books have already covered.
5-0 out of 5 stars good book, even better starting chart
Teaches the ins and outs of poker and will help any beginer improve his game. The flop chart is the best asset, follow it and it will help eliminate alot of beginer mistakes. not for advanced readers, but if you are an advanced player Middle limit poker by ciaffane is the best book out i feel for the advanced. This book and the ciafane book are the only two poker books you need if you are beginer or play poker at all. Has turned around my bottom line dramatically ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Read This Book - I Don't Want You To Beat Me
I have played online tournaments for several years now and usually bust out in the third hour just short of the money, despite frequently being in the top 10 players at the one- and two-hour take-a-5-minute-break points. The few times I have won big prizes, I could never figure out why - the last hour always seemed like such a whirlwind as theblinds escalated.
4-0 out of 5 stars Add a new dimension to your play...
Great book.Explains a lot of things you see happening in tournaments but didnt know why. The stuff in this book really works (although it is a bit scary to try at times...)
1-0 out of 5 stars Not what it promises
This book is geared to what the author calls speed tournaments, those with relatively low starting chip counts and fastly increasing blind structures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent start
This book is great for everyone who's new to poker, especially casino poker. It explains all kinds of poker in detal and gives general rules on how to win in poker. You certainly can learn all your basics from this book, but I don't think it's good for people who want to learn Hold'em in particular - for that I'd recommend "Hold'em Excellence: From Beginner to Winner" by Lou Krieger. It explains everything in detail. Krieger certainly knows what he's talking about and explains it in a simple, easy to read form.
3-0 out of 5 stars There's not much here
I love "Dummies" books and usually start with one when I want to learn something completely new. I have played poker recreationally most of my life, and been a consistent winner--because my competition was even worse than I was. I even won in my sole foray into a card club--because I was lucky. I had never played Hold'em, however. I wanted to learn more than just the rules of the game and get an introduction to some of the theoretical poker concepts that I knew were out there. This is the wrong book for that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lou Krieger knows poker
it's great that this book assumes that you know nothing about poker, because i knew nothing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not much changed from previous edition, binding issues
Overall I liked the book however I had the previous edition and there wasn't that much that was added for this edition, so if you have the previous edition of the book - you are good to go.The other problem I had was with the glue and the binding as the other reviewer stated. The pages are popping out of the binding.Otherwise, it still is a good book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book fell apart
After just a couple days of normal use, the pages began coming out. The book fell apart.
5-0 out of 5 stars First book I read on Poker
I bought this book about a year and a half ago.Read it twice
