Exceptional for crossword lovers!
This crossword dictionary is used by everycrossword lover I know.I found myself always borrowing someone's in our office when I would get stuck.Now I have purchased one for myself and I love it!If you are a crossword buff like myself, you need to buy this book!

This is the one!!
I got this as a Christmas present along with another crossword dictionary, and this is by far the best one. Even if you don't think an answer is in here, check anyway.Most of the time you'll be pleasently suprised.And if you can't find what you're looking for one way, try it a different way and there is a good possibility it's in there.

Best crossword dictionary around.
After approx. a month of use this dictionay has been the most useful dictionary I've had.I also have used three other crossword dictionaries during this time period but the "Million Word Crossword Dictionary" has proved to be the better by far.I highly recommend this dictionary to crossword buffs.RCD.

Not that great.
I bought this based on the reviews of others. It's not particularly helpful and it is physically huge!It is an interesting reference book, but not very helful for solving crossword puzzles.Buy something else (I know I will).

This is a very good job.It is brand new (copyright May 2006).It is the right size, not so small that you need good vision to read it.It is well-organized.It includes not only words, but also biographical and geographical entries, as well as tons of lists of things.So if you want to know about Mickey Mantle, or academy award winners, just look it up and it will be easily found.Crossword puzzles will become more fun for you, and less difficult. ... EFL Teachers - a good resource
I teach English as a foreign language, and this dictionary is great for helping children play more effectively and to understand root words and how they evolve into other words.

this book is outdated by a factor of 2 (two) dictionary revisions. As many as 8000 words are not included, and to complete the pie, there's (ewwww!) TYPOS! Yep, errata, misprints, however you wanna call it. This book is essentially garbage.

Not good
I have a 5th edition of this book which has more info in it than this one.I was very disappointed so I sent it back.

The best of all!
I gave my mother a copy of the 3rd edition for Christmas in 1968.It has been re-bound once, and the pages are very worn.After her death 10 years ago, I inherited it, and find it the best crossword puzzle dictionary that I have ever used. I have found wonderful words in it, so that using it has been very educational! I am going to splurge and order the 6th edition for myself for Christmas this year.

This is a very poor prodiuct, and is inferior to the 4th Edition Hardcover that I am used to.It is a much smaller page with tiny type (font size); lacks the ease of readability that I had with the earlier edition.It isnot worth buying at any price! large type?
Well, I tried to purchase a large type crossword dictionary as a gift.

Very poor and not well organized or easy to use.This did not meet my needs so it was returned.

An update, please.....
Mine is almost worn to shreds.I find it extremely useful, and thethree and four letter word finders easier to use than most.I agree that the name finder needs a serious update, but since many crossword puzzles use the same clues, I have many penciled in names in that section.This dictionary is one of two I use, the other being the New American which sometimes has a more extensive listing under animal, herb, flower and star clues and a complimentary category listing.Now, if they only would come out with a dictionary that would have more foreign word definitions and also latin sayings, it would be perfect. ... Webster's New World Crossword Puzzle Dictionary
I enjoy using this book while doing crossword puzzles because it is most complete. I have used this book for years and have yet to find one better. My first edition has woren out and I am using my second edition and have just purchased another for my friend who is only beginning to do crosswords. If there is one better I would be most interested in it.

Disappointed
No slang, no foreign word or phrases, some common words just missing-bought it as a gift for daily crossword fanatic and get to hear what is missing from it on more that one occasion give it a miss.

Champion Word Finder
Bradford's Crossword Key Dictionary is another fine aid to both solvers and setters. A hefty paperback with 1174 pages, it boasts a comprehensive list of words. Its 390,000 entries are organised into chapters according to the length of the word (from four to fifteen letters) and sorted according to each letter position within the word. The method takes a bit to get used to but after a while it is easy to use. It means that the 4-letter words are entered four times, listed alphabetically according to the first letter, then the second letter and so on. Thus FRAB comes after FOZY in the first section, after ERYX in the second, after FOAM in the third and after FORB in the last. Of course, this means that the 15-letter words are listed 15 times.Read more

Very helpful and much better organized than other crossword dictionaries I've tried. It's a bit out of date and often things you'd expect to find aren't there, but it is very useful, especially for movie, sports, geography, place names, etc.

An essential guide
I use this in conjunction with the Dell Crossword Dictionary and find them complimentary.It has a nice category section, especially the geography section of rivers and cities, and the suggestions for some clues (i.e. animals, flowers, fish, and stars and constellations) is more extensive than many other dictionaries.While the word clues for three and four letter words is extensive, I find it a bit awkward to use.This dictionary shows much evidence of use in my hands and is well worthwhile.

New American Crossword Puzzle Dictionary
I purchased the latest edition of the dictionary edited by Albert & Loy Morehead to replace an edition I had purchased in the 1970's. I cannot state what edition it was because the first 13 pages have been worn away by continual use. That edition was absolutely fantastic. The new edition (1986) is still good but somewhat disappointing because many "Categories" have been omitted and placed in a section named "Definitions and Answers" where they are not readily observable. For example, some of the categories I found helpful but which are no longer situated in the "Categories" section are: Anatomy and Health; Arms and Armor; Food & Drink; Lakes, Seas, Gulfs, Bays; Mountains & Volcanoes; Bridges & Dams; Natural History (many subcategories) Measures & Weights; Money & Coins; Tools & Implements; Wearing Apparel; Music Terms & Instruments; and some others. All in all, the dictionary is still great and I recommend it as a valuable addition to a puzzle solvers collection.

My Favorite Crossword Puzzle Dictionary!
Although I'm sad to see the New American Dictionary has not been revised since 1986, I am buying a new copy since I found this to be absolutely the best crossword puzzle dictionary.The cat ate the front and back pages offof my old one (my fault for leaving the catnip package to close to it!), soI guess I'll have to part with it and get a new one.It's categoriessection is the best and includes categories such as:The Bible, famousnames, foreign words, geography, mythology, presidential information andmore.It's a must to help find the answers for those last empty boxes! ... Namely, a great book across the words
Somewhere I read a review that said this was the crossword book one was most likely to use.I scoffed at that, as I have some robust crossword answer books, but do you know, that review may have been right? (Bit of info--I've solved all the NY Times daily crosswords for the past 15 years or so.)BTW--This also has an add-on section listing rivers and what river flows into what other rives, as well as persons and info re them (Ringo Starr was in a Caveman movie, had a hit song, and his birth name), as well as "products", which are movies, songs, etc., with the person they are associated with.Note--the stuff after the "BTW" is just extra to the name listing, as the name listing is the key to this, but the extras are nice too.I hope someone is updating this, since it's about 6 years old and thus knows nothing about "Lindsay Lohan", etc.

This book lives up to its name
I've used this book heavily since I've bought it, and it has come through with the correct answer 95% of the time. If you do crosswords, this book is a MUST BUY. It is already one of the top reference books in my collection for doing crosswords. Fred Jackson

I'm running a game right now where the character wants to go to Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. This book told me what I needed to know about the academy, and also gave me some other stuff I wanted (such as new forcepowers).

Why I was not completely satisfied
I have enjoyed Crossword puzzles for many years. Unfortunately I often need help. For assistance I have used "Webster's Offical Crossword Puzzle Dictionary," copyright 1981 by Merriam Co. Needless to say I needed an update dictionary. When I saw this book advertized I thought it was just what I needed and ordered it imnmediately. If I had seen a copy of this book first, I would never have ordered it.This book is impossible to read. All info is run together and difficult to dicipher.
