5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent graphic novel that is compelling nearly 20 years later.
Sales of V for Vindetta increased dramatically when the movie came out earlier this year.I happened to be one of those guys that wanted to read the graphic novel before I saw the movie.I am so grateful that I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici
This was the first Alan Moore graphic novel that I have read, and I must say I was very pleased. This novel is much weightier than I expected as it grapples with philosophical and political issues such as "what is the government's responsibility to it's citizens?", and "can a terrorist be a hero?".The writing is definitely top notch, and the artwork was very good (not as good as Frank Miller's Sin City series, but still quite good).I would definitely recommend this graphic novel as well as the film adaptation (read the novel first if possible - I believe I enjoyed the film version much more having read the original source).

5-0 out of 5 stars Anarchy Vs. Fascism
A stones throw from the concept of the movie, which seemed to be Democracy vs. Fascism, this book read quite a bit better than the movie played. The movie was truly a good movie, so then it must follow that this book is an excellent book.

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected more from Marvel
I don't know if it's me, but this book was is not what I expected. The artwork in my opinion was not that great. The stories were somewhat bland and flat. One story is completed made up of splash pages (all art) and with nothing written on it. You figure with Marvels stable of talented artist, they artwork would have been better. The only halfway decent story was the last one in which the media, along with government, manipulates the news in order to give the people war propaganda news in which the human are winning, and not disclosing the casualties nor suffering that are being endured by mankind. If you truly want to read a gripping graphic novel with amazing artwork, check out Pride of Baghdad. Now that's a great graphic novel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Opinion of a bigtime game/comic fan
Halo is a great game, and some of these artists have done other work which is awesome. But I have to say that this book didn't do it for me.I'm not a very analytical person when it comes to comics.I read them, and then I just ask myself if I had a good time.I didn't.

1-0 out of 5 stars More Freek show stories.
Taking a line from his cancelled and poorly shown movie, Whedon and the Hacks at Dark Horse deliver up this rubbish, which is just that, Rubbish.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect filler between TV series and movie
Quick admission: I'm a huge fan of the Firefly TV series and "Serenity".I think both were horribly underappreciated, and can't understand why they weren't more successful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Serenity, an under-sold epic
While it is a little inconvenient to have to jump from a television series (thanks Joss Whedon and crew and cast, untimely cancelled, bad judgment Fox) to movie (thanks Universal) to comic book (thanks Dark Horse), it is rewarding to see more of the story accessible to Firefly/Serenity fans.It is amazing how few fans actually saw the series on television or the movie but became big fans from DVD sales. This is a story that touches the heroic, underdog spark in all of us.The comic book was appreciated for connecting the series to the movie and for explaining a couple of missing elements such as what happened to the blue hands guys. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great series read it 5++++
I have been reading this series from the beginnig. books and comics I love the cone wars books/Comics. I just pick this up a few days ago and I loved it I really loved the part about darth vader after revenge of the sith. It brought a good end the this series. I am also enjoy in legacy of the force book series witch I am reading #2 as well as Legcy comic series. Anothe comic series I am eager to read is the dark times coming in october witch acts as a sequal to one of the stoies presrnted herw as well as dark lord witch you should also read. enjoy this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars The end . . . and new beginnings
Endgame is a denouement, a figurative and literal cleaning up and sorting out, the final chapter in Dark Horse's Clone Wars series. That doesn't mean there's nothing but talking heads and exposition. On the contrary, there's plenty of action in three stories about choice and consequence. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun
the whole series is great brain candy.Fun to read and leaves you looking forward to the next one!

4-0 out of 5 stars More pieces to the Y puzzle
In "Paper Dolls," the seventh volume of "Y: The Last Man," the story jumps across the globe -- and the timeline -- with reckless abandon. It begins in Sydney, Australia, where Yorick and his team are aboard a sub bound for Japan, where the other last surviving male -- Yorick's monkey, Ampersand -- has been taken for reasons unknown. But Yorick's girlfriend Beth may also be in Australia, and so too is a tabloid reporter eager to find evidence of the last surviving man. Who knows what mayhem will erupt if Yorick is exposed?
4-0 out of 5 stars Of flashbacks and digressions
While everybody is on the track of Ampersand, Yorick loses focus and decides to look for his fiancée. One day to comb Australia? Piece of cake.

4-0 out of 5 stars Issues #18 to #23 of the series
This volume collects six issues instead of the five of Books 1 and 2.Yorick, Agent 355, Dr. Mann and Ampersand continue across the Midwestern US, ultimately toward a radical Arizona group that is blocking the interstate and crippling the fragile national supply chain. These issues offer several surprises that rejuvenate a storyline that had stalled by the end of the last collection.I enjoyed this more than Book 3 and will continue reading the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets better with each passing volume
Safeword, the fourth collected volume of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's smashing Vertigo title Y: The Last Man, continues the journey of Yorick Brown, the last man on Earth. When his pet monkey Ampersand (who is the only other living male mammal left on the planet) gets sick, Yorick's cohorts Dr. Mann and Agent 355 drop him off with 355's old partner, the sexy Agent 711.What happens next tests everything that Yorick has come to known, and he makes a startling discovery about himself in the process. The second storyarc finds Yorick and co. stuck in the desert and up against a crazed militia who have their own agenda. With tough choices and revelations abound for everyone involved, the direction that the series will go in is shaped more clearly now than ever before.Like previous reviews have stated, Safeword is easily the most mature of the series so far, with Vaughan's storytelling getting better panel after panel.Pia Guerra's artwork serves it's purpose as it has before, but it's Vaughan who steals the spotlight here.If he keeps this up, his name will be in the same breath as modern day masters Ennis, Ellis, Morrison, and maybe even Moore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting even funkier!
So now things are getting a little weirder. As if being the last man on the planet (along with your pet monkey) and having half of the women want to kill you for what you represent, having a quarter not want you at all because they are playing for the other side, and having the last quarter want to jump your bones wasn't weird enough, let's make it weirder. We now get into Yorrick's head and man, it isn't pretty.

1-0 out of 5 stars a frightening future? One with women in power?
I don't get it, this story seems misogynistic. Oh no! Women in politics-Ahhhhh! Trust me-I don't think this is even remotely believable like the editorial descibed it as.

4-0 out of 5 stars Y: The Last Sand-Man?
When the first issues of Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN came out back in the day, the writing was not as sure-footed as the sublime storylines that would follow, but it was clearly the work of an excellent writer. Reading this first collection of Y: THE LAST MAN reminded me of that experience. The story organization is masterful, and it is giving intriguing tweaks to the well-worn premise of being the "last man alive." But Vaughan's work has received so much praise, perhaps my expectations were higher than they should have been for this first book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great story set in freaky world!
What if all men on Earth just suddenly DIED? As a man you'd think "Great! More chicks for me!" If you read this you'd probably think otherwise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Puts the Series Back on Track
I missed all the hype about this series, and just happened upon the trade paperbacks at the library. The premise, as the title says, is that some kind of plague spontaneously kills every male on earth at the same instant -- except a 20something slacker named Yorick and his monkey Ampersand. Following the events of the first four books, this fifth picks up the story of Yorick, his government agent bodyguard (Agent 355), and a geneticist (Dr. Mann), who have finally made it to San Francisco, where Dr. Mann has a lab where she hopes to be able to figure out why Yorick survived.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best volume of the series thus far
Volume 5 compiles eight issues of the comic for a bulky 192 page total. The crux of the story occurs in Califonia almost two full years after the plague.Yorick, Agent 355, Dr. Mann and their monkey Ampersand finally approach Mann's bioengineering laboratory in San Francisco. They finally encounter two separate parties that have each trailed our protagonists westward. The intensifying plot offers further backstory for the main characters and introduces a new menace.Does Dr. Mann discover the cause of the plague? Is Hero pursuing her brother with good or evil intentions?Which secret government organization should be trusted, if any?All eight of these issues featured the original team of artists with no 'guests', another plus.Volume 5 was even better than any of the acclaimed previous volumes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets better and better
Brian K. Vaughan's compulsively addicting series from Vertigo still gets better and better with each passing issue.Ring of Truth, the fifth collected volume of the series, begins with Yorick looking for forgiveness, and finding more than he bargained for. After that, Yorick, Agent 355, an Dr. Mann finally reach San Francisco and Dr. Mann's lab, and just in time when Yorick begins exhibiting symptoms of the plague that killed every other male on the planet.Add to this 355's renegade former colleagues on the hunt, as well as Yorick's brainwashed raddled sister Hero, and a sexy ninja who kidnaps Yorick's pet monkey Ampersand, and you have the fastest moving and most gripping storyarc of the series thus far. There is also a major discovery regarding how Yorick and Ampersand survived the plague, and the fate of Yorick's Austrailia-stranded girlfriend Beth is hinted at as well.Pia Guerra's art is what you would expect from the previous installments, and she does a fine job as usual.Once you hit the last page, you'll be salivating for more, and believe it or not, the series just gets better. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Artwork's Better, Story's Okay, But Overall: Still Lacking
This out of print and ultra-rare graphic novel, 'Tales of the Jedi: Redemption', is in my opinion a step forward from the previous 'Tales of the Jedi' (TOTJ from here on) storylines/graphic novels in terms of artwork. Actually, a step forward is incorrect: the artwork has progressed by leaps and bounds! However, as is usual with Star Wars, the storyline is the same ol', same ol' with little to offer readers and newcomers (although SW nuts and fanatics would eat this up, or anything George Lucas does for that matter).
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book and a fitting end to a great series!
This interesting book is the final book in the Knights of the Old Republic series. The series is a collection of graphic novels that takes the reader to the Old Republic, thousands of years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

4-0 out of 5 stars Longer Book For The Same Price, But Series Slows
This book collects issues 11 to 17 of the series, offering seven issues for the same price as the first two five-issue volumes.Unfortunately, the plot moves slower than before, including a guest-penciled two-issue 'Comedy and Tragedy' sidebar about a traveling theater troupe in a small Nebraska town.I'll hope for an improvement in the simulaneously purchased Book 4 before continuing with Book 5. ... Is this a joke? Yea, all us feminists would create a terror group to chase you men down. I really appreciate how this 'cartoonist' depicted feminists (you know:the vote, equal rights, maternity/paternity leave, sexual harrassment/domestic abuse laws, reproductive rights, careers-all us evil women) would become crazy killers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long Live Yorick!
From the excitement of the first volume, we move into the second. Everything is building and building and the action is twice as intense and gut wrenching as in the first volume. The town that they go to is great and the characters are fantastic. I totally love Yorick. He's just a regular guy stuck in a crapstorm of craziness! This is a great series that just keeps getting better. The books are addicting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nifty
Haven't bought a comic in a while. Hollywood, having finally admited to running out of ideas has turned to the great and ultra-cool comics (Hellboy, Sin City, V for Vendetta, etc) in order to make some dough, has once again sparked my interest in graphic novels. I bought this one based soley on the art and was not dissapointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Story
I was starting to wonder if they were ever going to wrap up Voss' story. I found it very compelling and great continuity. I was waiting for the payoff on the Vos story line. I also like how it leaves the future open for more of his story. The story arc ended nicely. I would recommend this especially at the low price of Amazon. Worth the read!

4-0 out of 5 stars Clone Wars Vol. 8
To pewface this review, the Vos story line has intrested me, but never really captured me. I liked the idea of having a Jedi who was so close to the dark side, that he was endangered to losing it all. And Vos is a perect example. In previous Volumes it has never been clear where he stood, and this volume resolves it. I was always more intrested in Obi Wan and Anakin, but the conclusion of Vos was a good one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well...
With Warren Ellis writing and Brandon Peterson doing the artwork, you would think this would be the perfect mini series.I did enjoy it, but it didn't leave me with a sense of awe.The very delayed Galactus trilogy finally comes to a close with Reed Richards working on an ultimate weapon to stop the Galactus threat, and Professor X working on a telepathic weapon to use.Meanwhile Captain America is left feeling powerless against this world eating foe.Ellis does a nice job with the dialog, though his unique take on Galactus and Silver Surfer may not please everyone.Peterson's artwork is a new style for him.I wasn't that pleased with the change and I hope he goes back to his old drawing ways.If you have read the first two, then of course finish it out.If you are a new reader, then start elsewhere.Plenty of time to get to this one after you have caught up with Spidey, X-Men and Fantastic 4.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Conclusion
At long last, the Ultimate Galactus saga comes to a close with Ultimate Extinction. Coming on the heels of the events in Ultimate Nightmare and Ultimate Secret, Ultimate Extinction features the Ultimates, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men working together to fend off the planet-killing force known as Gah Lak Tus. This is the colossal confrontation that the other chapters have been building towards.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as 1 and 2
If you liked the cinematic artwork of volume 1 and the characterizations in volumes 1 and 2, you may be a little disappointed in volume 3, as I was. The artwork is more stylized here (no different than ordinary Marvel comics), which was a bit of a let-down. I prefer Bryan Hitch-style realism in my Ultimate books. But even worse (IMO), the artist seems to have gone overboard on the Photoshop half toning, creating a texture that I found distracting and that seemed to overpower both the line art and the color. The writing was ok but it felt as if the characterization established in volumes 1 and 2 suffered a bit in their rush to conclude the story. Cap had almost nothing to do here, which they dealt with in a conversation about God that felt a bit forced. Xavier's effect on Galactus was well-done, as was Reed's anguish over what he had to do. And of course, the foreshadowing in volume 2 about the secret of Galactus that changes anyone who hears it couldn't possibly live up to that kind of setup (and doesn't), so prepare to be underwhelmed by that. Ultimate Silver Surfer was interesting, although I'm not sure I like what they replaced the surfboard with. It looked a bit too cumbersome and non-functional. The book is worth having if only to find out how it ends (well, it doesn't quite "end," since it leaves a big opening for more in the future) and to complete your collection, if you're into that. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Unlike any story told in the comic medium. This put Alex Ross on the map.
During the summer of 1997 I was walking through my comic shop looking at all the comics that came out that day, and my eyes caught a glimps of Kingdom Come #1.I couldn't believe how amazing the artwork was on this book and how it looked so real.I purchased it and instantly read it once I got home.Up to that point nothing had thrilled me as much as that story had (except for Knightfall, Reign of the Supermen).
5-0 out of 5 stars YES!!
The Ultimate DC story ever told! To date! The Artwork, the storytelling. Amazing! I was started to thinking comics, american comics, couldn't be this damn good. In fact, I think it deserves six stars. Yes, I said SIX!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kirby returned to Marvel to create a cousin to the Fourth World.
Leaving Marvel Comics, Jack Kirby spent several years at DC Comics producing work that was extremely innovative and inspiring, but which must have disappointed Kirby on several fronts.Though sales of his DC work were good, they weren't "Kirby good", and that caused DC to cut short his "Fourth World" epic.Kirby did a few other truly great books at DC after that, most notably Kamandi and the Demon, but it's clear he never got the idea of techno-mythology out of his system.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Eternals are back...
Yes, Marvel is only releasing this now to tie in with the new mini-series by Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. Yes, Marvel's shoddy treatment of Jack Kirby - especially around the time of this series - has been well documented. Yes, Marvel dictated editorial changes including Marvel Universe guest stars and Kirby was forced to capitulate, albeit in his own unique way.
4-0 out of 5 stars King Kirby's Last Great Work
Back at Marvel in the 70s, Jack Kirby created THE ETERNALS. The series continued Kirby's sole obsession with themes of Gods, mythology, big technology and monsters wrapped into a sci-fi warp.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely TERRIBLE
As I stated in a previous Star Wars book review (`Yoda: Dark Rendezvous'), gems in the literary SW Universe are scarce, sparse, few, and far in-between - this graphic novel is no exception to that rule. In a nutshell, `The Fall of the Sith Empire' sucks. Hard. For some reason, the whole prehistoric, almost Egyptianesque, civilization of an ancient Republic and advanced technology (e.g. flying starships) just didn't mesh together in my opinion. I'm not saying the suspension of disbelief in such a setting is a futile effort for a reader, but the task becomes a lot harder to envision with the uninspired art and simpleton dialogue showcased throughout this graphic novel. Aside from all of that, the story is just, well, boring: twin hyperspace explorers cruise the galaxy, one of them gets kidnapped by a Sith, the Sith lord uses the other twin to infiltrate the Republic, and then the Jedi help defend the Republic against the Sith Empire. Same ole, same ole.
