5-0 out of 5 stars Peanuts 1959-60: Linus in the spotlight and Sally is born
"Go Fly a Kite, Charlie Brown" contains "Peanuts" strips from the years 1959 and 1960 where in addition to his travails over flying a kite Charlie Brown becomes a brother with the birth of his sister Sally. However, it takes a while for Sally to actually appear in her first strip (playing spin the milk bottle with Snoopy), at which point she almost costs her big brother a chance to be the goat in yet another baseball game. However, the real star of this particular collection is clearly Linus, who spends his time throwing rocks in a vacant lot, fretting about the future and the peace of the world, falling very hard for his new teacher, Miss Othmar (he does not worship here, he is just very fond of the ground on which she walks), and teaching Charlie Brown about the Great Pumpkin. Then there is the great danger Snoopy faces when he wakes up one morning and discovers a giant icicle poised perilously over his doghouse; fortunately he is actually sleeping IN the doghouse instead of ON the doghouse. There is also the appearance of Pig Pen, Snoopy's conversations with leaves, and yet another Beethoven's birthday to be celebrated. You will also be pleased to notice that several of these strips made their way into the first animated "Peanuts" television cartoon, "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

5-0 out of 5 stars You must get this book!
This wonderful collection of Peanuts cartoons was originally published in 1961. It is a collection of four-panel strips that were originally published between 1958 and 1961. Because of the date, Rerun isn't here, but just about all of the other Peanuts stars are - Lucy, Violet, Schroeder, and even baby Sally.3-0 out of 5 stars Great content, cheap book
This small paperback reprint volume of vintage Peanuts Sunday strips is essential for the Peanuts fan but such a cheap reprint format does not do justice to the strips. The panels are reproduced on cheap, pulp-like paper much smaller than the original newspaper version and with very little spine margin. The strips, of course, are printed here in black-&-white. I'd had been willing to pay ... for a large-size softcover with decent paper and the strips in color. I'd been glad to pay [more money] for the thing in hardcover. Oh, well, it's worth having like it is for the strips themselves but I can remember when a paperback book of this size and production quality sold for 50 cents at the corner drug store. I'd give it 5 stars if the physical quality of the book were in keeping with its illustrious content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charles Schulz proves his mastery of the Sunday comic strip
Charles M. Schulz was such a master of the four panel daily comic strip that it takes a book like "Peanuts Every Sunday," to show us what he could do with the top half of the front page of the Sunday comics. These strips from 1958-1961, show Schulz's quick mastery of the form.Few of these Sunday strips have a minimum of 8 panels; there are more with 12 or 13 panels, which is certainly at the high end of the spectrum for what you would find in the Sunday comics (then or now).As with his daily strips, Schulz's strength is in telling a story over several strips: my favorite are three devoted to Linus discovering he can make it stop raining. There are a couple of other strips involving Linus and the rain as well, establishing something of a recurring motif for these strips. There are also a couple of strips devoted to the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown trying to fly a kite, Linus running away from home, Lucy listening to Schroeder play the piano, and the joys of snowball throwing. There are also several classic strips involving cloud watching and stargazing.Clearly the late 1950s and the entire 1960s were the heyday of Peanuts, as the strips within these pages clearly prove. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Snoopy Wisdom
I received this book as a present when I was going through a rough time in my life and it instantly cheered me up and put me in a great mood. This book is not only funny and amusing, but it is also inspiring and full of wisdom that can relate to anybody no matter how old you are. I highly recommend this little book because it will certainly make you smile and laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Inspiring Book
This is a great book for older teenagers who may want inspiration or advice but feel they can't get it from their parents. Very funny but teaches a lesson. Great for a "Congraluations" or "Happy Birthday" gift. Remember nobody is to young to learn a lesson from the Peanuts! ;-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Book!
I'm not truly a peanuts collector per se...I don't pursue any item I can find depicting the Charles Schulz characters. But I am a big Peanuts fan and I do collect certain items such as holiday themed items and other odds and ends. There are a few other Peanuts guides out there but I think this is the best.It lists over 2000 items with over 1000 photographs. In somewhat unique fashion the author has categorized the items by the room in your home where you would find these pieces. In case that doesn't work there is a very thorough index.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must for every Peanuts Collector
I have been collecting Peanuts for over 15 years. This book is the first I reach for when deciding to purchase an item. The index thoroughly covers the book making it easy to get to an item right away. The book has a great coverage of Peanuts collectibles in a logically organized manner. The pictures are professionally taken and in full color. The item descriptions are helpful and concise with production dates, manufacturers, dimensions and price ranges.
1-0 out of 5 stars More of a love of self, vs a love of Peanuts collecting.
I was greatly disappointed in the book. While it has lots of Great pictures and information, the editor, freddy Margoline has to let us know time and again how big her collection is or how she has personally met Mr. Schulz and stuff like that.I just never got a "Happiness is" feeling from this book like I got from the Andrea Podley and Derrick Bang book. That book (Peanuts Collectibles: Identification & Value Guide) really does give the "Happiness is a Peanuts Collection" feeling in the spirit that Sparky would appreciate. So if you can only get one book on Peanuts Collecting, get the Podley one - it has a "Happy" soul. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Oh, Gilligan! A WHOLE YEAR OF PEANUTS!!
Here it is, a book which contains all of the Peanuts cartoons created in the year 1991. Some jokes come out flat, but most get smiles, chuckles, or even out-loud laughter for their creativity, orignality..and a good punchline always helps.5-0 out of 5 stars Good times had by all
If you know anything about the Peanuts Gang, you cannot help but lve them. In this collection Schulz, has outdone himself again. Anyone seeking a good laugh or a smile brought to a cloudy day should take a look at this.

5-0 out of 5 stars That really is profound
This is a most charming collection of the antics of the round-headed kid we all love. With comics from a year's worth of newspapers, including theSundays, you'll have enough to read to keep you entertained, over and overagain. Not only are the Peanuts Gang funny, but inspiring, touching, sad,and as the title indicates, sometimes even profound. With Linus' wiseadvice, Lucy's sassy attitude, and Snoopy's admirable imagination, CharlesShulz' creations give us insight to the most enigmatical yet simplest partof our lives: our childhoods. Read the comics once and laugh, but read themagain, look into the words more, and see the other emotions buriedunderneath. Charles Shulz was truly a genius, and the world will miss him. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Among the Best of the Schulz Collections
"Schulzologists" enjoy. This is Charlie Brown and his crew at their peak in the 1960s. A favorite of mine that is in this book is the tale of Charlie Brown's adventures at camp, as well as where Lucy bamboozles CB into giving up his chance for a free movie for her. Schulz' talent for understated satire is shown during the 1968 strip that introduces the Black child Franklin to the proceedings (this actually received hate mail that Schulz wisely ignored). The issue of integration is handled deftly when Snoopy (as the Red Baron) says upon seeing Franklin forthe first time, "Headquarters must be planning a big drive-I don't recognize a lot fo these new men."5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite collection of vintage Peanuts comics
Peanuts Classics stands among my favorite books from childhood. It's an impressive hardback book featuring at least 150 pages of Peanuts cartoons and a large portrait of Charles M. Schulz on the back cover. The book was released in 1970 and features comics from 1963 until the time of release, mixing Sunday edition color comics with everyday black-and-white comic strips.5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the 1960's Peanuts
This features some of the best Peanuts cartoons from the 1960's.In it, you will see what inspired specials like "A Boy Named CB", "It Was a Short Summer, CB" and "You're Not Elected,CB".You have the born loser Charlie Brown going to a rained outbaseball game, making a friend at summer camp, and trying to fly his kite. You have the philosophical Linus who thinks he's discovered a wooden sphereand tries to share his theological viewpoints.Lucy is as crabby as everas she chews Charlie Brown out in psychiatric help when not pulling thatfootball away.Peppermint Patty gives a card to her father who calls her a"rare gem".Schroder is the cartoon's musical maestro, Sallyjumps rope and pesters Charlie Brown, Pig Pen is a mess, and Woodstock isintroduced.Oh yes, let's not forget Snoopy who plays the Easter Beagle, avulture, the World War I Flying Ace, author of "It Was a Dark &Stormy Night", and himself at Halloween (and mistaken as "somekid in a dog costume"!)!Get this collection if you can (which is indire need of reprint along with Peanuts Treasury). ...
