5-0 out of 5 stars This just keeps getting better!
If only I could pause my life and just read this whole series at once, I would. It's a battle just for me to put it down at any chapter or any volume.
4-0 out of 5 stars A SECOND KIRA?
L continues to monitor Light's activities in home through the use of 60 cameras hidden throughout his house, but the killing of criminals continues unabated by Kira. L thinks everything going on at the Yagamis is completely normal....TOO normal indeed in his opinion. In a surprise move, L actually meets up with Light in person, attending college entrance exams and even enrolling in the same school as Light! On top of that he even reveals his identity to him! It's an incredible gamble and we'll have to see if L might just have a heart attack because of it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Death Note volume 3
The third volume of Death Note gets five stars, and the fact that its continued excellence is still retained is a testament to how well the writing and story is put together, and how well the suspense that it creates will grab your attention long after you're done reading it. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Berserk
It's, you know, manga.Good stuff. I watched the anime series first, and the ending was too odd and too unfinished for me to leave it at that.So I decided to try these out.No disappointment.Buy it.It is in B&W, of course. But deal with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excpect nothing less from Knetaro Miura
After watching the incomplete T.V. series I set out to read and own as many of the beserk books as possible. This book acutally surpasses the series in so many diverse ways. The story is just as, if no more, spectacular putting you even deeper into the dark psychie of Guts. Not only this but it details the battle that takes place in the first episode of the tv series. All and all I was Overwhelmingly satisifed with this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtless and Unaoriginal
I recently bought Berserk vol. 1 expecting a violent comic book that I would love. Although this was one of my first manga comics I was completely let down. Everything in this comic I've seen somewhere else. Nothing is fresh or smart. The story is that of a video game set-up. I love comics and I love violence but this is nothing but quick ideas formulated around average action sequences. If you, (like I was) are looking for good comics in this genre pick up Garth Ennis's Preacher. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars g review
this is a very good continuation of the deathnote series containing plenty of suspense and mystery. it sets up the next book prefectly with yet another clif hanger ending that the series uses so well. i would definately recomend this book to anyone that has followed the series; if you are thinking about jumping into the sereies i would suggest starting at the first book because it would be a real spoiler to read it out of order.

4-0 out of 5 stars WHICH ONE IS KIRA?
Somebody in the Yotsuba corporation is killing off the company's business rivals and L, Light, and the few remaining detectives have figured out that someone in Yotsuba is Kira. The problem is figuring out who it is. If they try to move in on the group of seven suspects, then Kira might go into hiding or pass on his power to someone else. No, L MUST know how Kira kills before he is arrested. Misa is sent undercover with a coverstory that she was once suspected of being the second Kira and that she wants to meet Kira because he killed the murderer of her parents and wants to thank him. Something unexpected happens when Rem, Misa's ex-Shinigami touches her with a piece of Death Note, making her visible to Misa and reveals the truth about Light and herself as the first two Kiras and the identity of the new Kira! Now Misa will have to use all her acting skills to not upset Light's plans or reveal her newfound knowledge to L AND keep herself from getting killed at the same time!
5-0 out of 5 stars Kira, the Third
Quick note, if you haven't read the previous five volumes then don't read this review, as it will spoil those volumes for you. However, if you have, then this is an entirely spoiler free review for you and by all means, read on...

4-0 out of 5 stars MISA IS IN LOVE
Light Yagami has learned that he is not alone in holding the power of the Death Note. A second person is killing people and calling themselves Kira. The difference is that this second Kira does not care if the people he kills are innocents or criminals. The reason the second Kira is so sloppy and seemingly illogical is that "he" is a young girl named Misa who not only looks up to the real Kira for killing the criminal that killed her parents, but actually thinks she is in LOVE with Kira. Just like Light, she has her own Shinigami spirit named Rem, who has more of a personal loyalty to Misa than Ryuk to Light. L doesn't fall for the whole Kira act and instead of dropping his suspicions of Light, easily figures out that this is a second Kira, but he still enlists the aid of Light in the investigation, going on the premise that it's best to have your enemies close.
5-0 out of 5 stars The world of mortals
Light, a young man just entering college, is a brilliant but easily bored student. One day, he comes across the Death Note--dropped into the human world by a rogue shinigami, or death god.
5-0 out of 5 stars Girl Troubles
Death Note's wont for adding suspense is one of the things that make this series so great. Just when you think it has to end, something new happens and the incoming disaster is averted, for a little bit, at least. In volume three, this came when Light met L in person for the first time, and they became friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Regarding Binding
This really is a great book. The artwork, with the deep inky shadows portrays a great german expressionistic style mixed with something unique to Mignola. Its a breath of fresh air next to just about any main stream comic selling. Now, about the binding of this book.I bought a copy of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction, 3rd edition, and it was a delight to read. However, by the end of the story, the book had unglued itself in several places, and pages were continually falling out. Apparently this has happened to many people who purchased this edition.I emmidiately returned the book.My next thought was, are all the editions of the book this poorly made?So I got a first edition paperback of the book made back in 1994, and it was much better than the 3rd edition, the binding was glued more solidly. If you want this book, and it's really a great one, I recommend trying to find an earlier edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Who Is That Guy In The Wizard Suit?
The stick-on emblem on this book says "The Book That Inspired The Motion Picture," but you need to take that with a grain of salt. What it really should say is 'the book that gave someone the idea of doing a Hellboy movie."While there are common themes, Seed of Destruction is, in many ways a different story. As you read the novel the differences will surprise you and give you some insight into why many faithful Hellboy fans were a bit irritated at the film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Five stars? What the hell!!
Five stars for hellboymight sound a bit overrated to those who prefer to reserve the starry altar for intellectually superior attempts (maus, persepolis and the likes.Dont get me wrong,i really admire and have immense respect for what spielgelman clowes satrapi have contributed to the genre and in no ways i am trying to belittle their efforts) .But then there are some of us who prefer their 'graphic novels'better drawn, for those of us this is your stop. Comics are a visual medium, and though a well written comicis definitely a step in the right direction,it can never make up for bad artwork. How many of you would like to watch a film with a fantastic storyline and embarrassingly bad acting?

3-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise
While Dead Town does not outshine Volumes 1 and 3 of the series, it does however work well in the series. D's character, while still cold, is starting to develope into a person that can in fact, partner up from time to time with other characters in the story. 5-0 out of 5 stars THE MYSTERY OF THE DEAD TOWN
One of my very first exposures to Anime came in the late 80's and the wonderfully atmospheric Vampire Hunter D.Oh sure I had seen Robotech and Speed Racer and the like, but this was truly unlike anything I had ever seen before.Dark Horse Press and Digital Manga Publishing have joined together to bring the fantastic Vampire Hunter D novels to American audiences for the first time.Originally written some 20 years ago by Hideyuki Kikuchi, "Tale of the Dead Town" is thus far the fourth book in the series to be released.
4-0 out of 5 stars Action-Packed, Quick Read
The first thing that should be said is that this novel is not 300 pages long like some sources say. The book itself has a total of 201 pages and the last 30 consist of a preview for volume 5 as well an afterword by Hideyuki Kikuchi, meaning that the TALE OF THE DEAD TOWN ends after a mere 168 pages. I read this book in one afternoon.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT comparable to Vasquez . . . .
Sorry, but though this is a good book and a fun read, the art is not even close to Jhonen's fine work, so if you're a Jhonen fan and are buying this (as I did) you WILL be dissapointed with the artwork and writing. There were plenty of funny parts, as well as interesting death scenes, but if you want something really great go with Vasquez.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for gothy teenagers
Lenore is so cute and twisted I don't know how anyone couldn't positively just love her.Roman Dirge's art is wonderful, I think Lenore would make a great tattoo. These comics aren't just for gothy teenagers, they are fun and silly.I definitely recommend!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ignore Lenore...
(I read this comic at a friend's place one time, and decided to write a review... sadly, this isn't going to be a very positive one!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Fairy Tales Back to Their Dark Roots
Before Disney changed things and made everyone think Fairy Tales are all about Bambis and fuzzy bunnies, Fairy Tales were dark, disturbing, and always had a meaning.Serena Valentino attempts to bring those fairy tales back to their dark roots, with art by FSc.And, for the most part, she succeeds. Each tale is dark and disturbing, and the each story is told with decieving simplicity. The dialogue is also simple; so simple that it feels juvenile, like something a high schooler might write during study hall (ok, perhaps that's a bit too severe...).Also, Valentino's original stories, such as the first story with the lesbian vampires, are simply not as strong as her own twists on such well known Fairy Tales as Cinderella and Snow White. And lastly, even though I feel FSc's art is strong and vivid, there are a few moments where the drawings are very sketchy, as if the artist simply forget to put the finishing touches on those frames. All in all though, Nightmares & Fairytales is more hit than miss, and is a good read for anyone in the mood for a dark comic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute evil
I read the first comic when it was first released, and I fell in love with the artwork almost immediately. The writing is very lovely, some of the stories--especially in volume 2--are brilliant, but it can also fall a little flat at times. But the art, however, is what draws me to this series over and over again. FSc is a fabulous artist, she incorporates a vague anime sensibility couples with swirling, magical images. The characters--especially Gwen--are adorable, the worlds are filled with beauty, and there is an overabundance of cuteness.

4-0 out of 5 stars I wish ALL fairy tales were like this
This is not a funny book.Er, not not-funny as in poor humor, but not funny as in it's not supposed to be a gut-buster.Not funny as in not bought to make you laugh, like Squee or Lenore would be.It is also drawn in a more manga-ish style than Dirge or Vasquez' stuff. It has some very cool stories, most are gorey spin-offs from fairy tales. It is told through the eyes of a little doll. Again, it's not supposed to be funny but it is fascinating. The drawings are sometimes vague and hard to follow, and the characters all look a bit too similar to easily disifer, the first few storues were a bit too confusing, and I had to carefully re-read certain part to get what was happening, but it's a good book.Definately worth figuring out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick Props to the Work
First off, all the people that say this is badly written obviously didn't know it was translated to english. The Book is absolutely amazing and it is a very easy to read book. My friend told me that it is one of his favorite books and I can understand why. The book I think could easily be read by anybody with an open mind with a thirst for adventure. The main character "D" is an introvert and so am I so it helps to relate to the character and the development of the story. The book is probably best read between the ages of 14-19 but as long as you have that little spark of teenage spirit it will be a fun book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I became the prey of this alluring vampire hunter's tale...
I'm a fan of "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust," and so, before watching "Vampire Hunter D," I went to Barnes and Noble to purchase the first and third volumes of the series. After buying it, I eagerly began to devour the words of the book, and I just couldn't stop reading. In a few days, I finished this deliciously dark and incredible novel.
2-0 out of 5 stars It's unfair to say that this is one for 'true fans' only ...
... because not every fan is going to be able to tolerate the painfully amateurish writing style in this book simply to try and justify themselves as legitimate.

Editorial Review

Here's a book guaranteed to offend a bunch of people, not only because of its profuse profanity and graphic violence, but because it's the epitome of iconoclasm. Like a brutal accident, you can't watch but you can't turn away. The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God's abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind. Despite its superficial perversity, this book contains what may be the most moral character in mainstream comics. A cult hit in the making. Fans of Quentin Tarantino take note. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking in the mirror
I've just started reading comic books and I must say that this is one of the ones that taught me the most.Alan Moore taught me about government, Neil Gaiman taught me some strange truths but Preacher gave me the most scary look at myself that I've ever had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guts Continues His Bloody Path
Berserk, amazingly, continues to get better, and for a series that was already a five in my book, that makes it very difficult to rate this, as five is the highest it can go here. With this volume, I'd give it a six easily, and possibly a seven. The artwork is great, the characters and their interactions are well-done, and the dark atmosphere that surrounds the story of Guts is enough to gag on, but in a good way, to be sure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Continues to be great
Guts is in rare form as he confronts the target of his search in this volume. Berserk is a violent and disturbing book. Guts seems to no longer care about anything or anyone except revenge on the one who betrayed him. In many ways, this reminds of Conan (dark, bloody fantasy where magic is both rare and feared).
5-0 out of 5 stars Words fail to describe the feeling you get reading these.
When we last saw Guts, he was getting assaulted by the Count, now turned into a hideous monster. In volume 2, Guts fought bravely, but was easily overpowered by the Count, who is capable of throwing Guts around the castle like he's nothing. In the end, Guts was knocked out cold, nearly dead. Puck didn't know what to do, and the Count's daughter, Theresia, was left in her room. This volume concludes the fight, but it ends in a way that keeps you on your toes. Anyone that's seen the animated series before reading these books will see some jaw-dropping images halfway through, as characters we only got a small taste of in the final episodes make a return. The only word that comes close to describing what I felt when reading this volume is "intense". Every page had something incredible going on, even more than the past two volumes. There's really no need to read the rest of my review if you don't want me to tell you what happens. And if you've already read the first two books, then you'll get this without needing to read a review.

Honestly, I think the Death Note series is the best thing that came to this world besides cake... mmmmmmmmm cake. Oh yeah, the review. Anyway, this has been another exciting chapter in Light Yagami's story.
4-0 out of 5 stars A THIRD KIRA
Light Yagami has agreed to be held in captivity until such time as L decides he is not Kira...which could be forever, because L just about KNOWS Light is the original Kira. But criminals cannot be convicted merely by suspicion. L wants evidence. Misa, the misguided goth girl pop idol, is also still being held as the prime suspect for the crimes of the second Kira. But that's pretty much a dead end since she gave up ownership of her Death Note and thereby lost all memories of it and the deaths she caused. L's plans and thinking process is going to have to change because while Light and Misa are locked up with no contact with the outside, Kira begins to kill more victims!

Carey's meditation on heaven, hell, will, creation, and responsibility reaches its conclusion -- but not its end -- as Lucifer fights in Heaven for a second time.
5-0 out of 5 stars CLIMACTIC END TO A BRILLIANT SERIES!
"Lucifer:Morningstar" is the latest trade paperback collection and brings the long-running series to its apocalyptic conclusion. The book collects issues #62 - 69 of the celebrated Vertigo comic series and the climax to the war in Heaven storyline that has been running over the course of the last few collections. When Lucifer first came out back in 2000 I was quite skeptical.DC had dealt with tales of Heaven & Hell with titles like Swamp Thing and Hellblazer before but here was Hell's ruler in his own title.Well darned if DC didn't pull it off and deliver a fallen angel who managed to gain the sympathy of the reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome
This second Hellboy mini-series from Dark Horse found Hellboy creator Mike Mignola taking on sole writing duties (legendary X-Men and Fantastic Four scribe John Byrne took script writing credit for Seed of Destruction) as well as art, and he surprisingly managed to craft a slightly better book than Seed of Destruction. The story revolves around our favorite paranormal investigator taking on vampires, while all the while Ilsa and Kroenen await the return of Rasputin and the end of the world: something which Hellboy is the key to.Full of creepy atmosphere, stylish storytelling, gothic art, and loaded with revelations and a few surprises, Wake the Devil reminds us just why comic books are so fun to read.If you're one of the many who saw the recent film and dug it, you should really check out every Hellboy graphic novel you can get your hands on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mignola takes control of Hellboy's writing and succeeds
Wake the Devil is the second Dark Horse Comic issued 4-issue series about Hellboy and the difference between the writing from Seed of Destruction to Wake is substantial. Mike Mignola took over sole writing duties for Wake the Devil after John Byrne's stint on Seed of Destruction. Mike Mignola never really wrote a full-scale plot and story for any comic he's drawn, but his inexperience in Wake the Devil is minimal. Hellboy is his creation and the world around him as well. He's lived and breathed the character since he is also the creator. Who else but the person who created the idea would know how to write the stories properly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nazis and vampires and ghosts, oh my!
This is the second Hellboy graphic novel. It is an improvement over the first one, as we get to know the old characters better, and interesting new characters are introduced.Creator Mike Mignola's Kirbyesque artwork is terrific, and this time he handles the writing himself (the first graphic novel was scripted by John Byrne).I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but I will explain that Hellboy is a paranormal investigator who appears to be a demon. This book is dedicated to Dracula, which should give you a clue as to what he encounters this time. This book should be especially appealing to people who like The X-Files or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I would encourage anyone who is a fan of sophisticated comic books to check it out. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The COMPLEAT SCRIPTS version
There WAS a collection of the trade paperback FROM HELL with black and white art, but the book pictured is an edition from Alan Moore scripts.A volume was published and more planned, but this paperback is a rare book and was the only one published. It has only the first few scripts with annotions (notes by Steve Bissette and some Eddie Campbell art).

5-0 out of 5 stars Erudite, horrifying, and masterfully illustrated fiction
This "comic" dissects the most famous unsolved crimes in history, peeling away their layers of misogyny, class stratification, abject poverty, imperial machinations, conspiracy, magic, and madness like so much flesh and sinew. Each chapter approaches the topic from a different angle, focusing here on the hidden Masonic architecture of the British capital, looking there in detail at the lives of the Ripper's victims. The basic plot is that the Ripper is one Sir William Gull, royal physician and Masonic magician, who is killing these women to keep them from blackmailing the Queen's grandson, Prince Eddy. To reduce the story to this plot, though, is to miss its incredible richness and intelligence.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Literature
I have read most of Alan Moore's oeuvre, but 'From Hell' is the one piece which I have returned to time and time again. I am sure it is Alan Moore's masterwork (to date) and comes with my highest recommendations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Spawn of a Series
Al Simmons was basically a hitman for the United States government. After he is killed all he dreams about is seeing his wife one more time. So, he makes a deal with the devil. Simmons is sent down to earth as The HellSpawn but instantly feels betrayed (what'd he expect?). His wife has remarried and has a child, his memory is shot, and he's plauged by demons (both inner and litteral).
4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
Though I was well aware of Spawn via his action figure line, I never knew much about the character or the comics which he originated from, wondering what the big deal was about this seemingly over-popular indie hero.Upon reading the first Spawn volume (and watching the movie), I learned what the buzz was about. This graphic novel introduced one of the coolest comic book characters out there. The story was pretty good, if a little simple sometimes, the dialogue, though sometimes stilted and cliched, could be interesting, but where the book really shined is McFarlane's magnificent artwork. This guy, no matter how ridiculous his human characters can look, draws a tight-looking Spawn, chains, skulls, cape and glowing green eyes and all.The action scenes are very good too.Overall a really good introduction to Spawn. However, the two issues that really launch the title in the direction it would go in for the rest of the series, involving Cogliostro and the angels of Heaven, was left out, porbably due to the fact that McFarlane tried to screw N
