5-0 out of 5 stars Things get more intense
This is one heck of a second volume. The action and intensity gets amped up! The artwork is even more tight and more intricate as you've got clashes between the army and Tetsuo. More of Kenada and Kei in this one which is always a good thing.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Saga Continues
If you know of the Akira Anime this Manga should be of no surprise; however, there are some definite differences that will become evident upon reading. 1st off the anime is way way shorter and edited to such an extent that most casual watchers are left feelin confused. These books will clear up any problems you may have had with the movie and expand upon the foundation the movie laid out. Be aware these books not in color.

When my brother came bouncing in with this book, my first thought was 'you paid 23 pounds for that?are you mad?'I felt no interest in it, but after a bit of persuasion/arm-twisting, I was persuaded to read it.It didn't seem anything special...but somehow I couldn't stop reading. Now I'm on a quest to find Book 1, and nothing will stop me...Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Marvel!
I grew up reading the Marvel Comics Conan series, and I loved it, but I think these Dark Horse Comics capture the spirit of Conan even better, and the art work is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Conan
This is a compilation of various of Conans adventures when he was young. Great reading

4-0 out of 5 stars Conan's Code
Conan is more than just the muscle bound barbarian that only thinks of women and riches, which I think is the opinion many who have not actually read a Conan book believe. He has a sense of honor and loyalty to his friends, even those he just met.Granted, he does get to indulge in the pleasures of life, but only after great suffering. He is a man that wants to have his food, drink and women and be left alone. But when the times come that he needs to step up, he will, and you'll regret waking the barbarian within. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best thing I've read in a while...
Even though this is a done in a comic book format, it flows and captivates you as much as a real novel. The story covers some important occurrences in politics dealing with Organa, Valorum, and Palpatine. There is also good stories including Obi-Wan, Anakin, and an excellent one with Yoda. Not to mention some great background on Asajj Ventress. It fills in a lot of gaps in the story and has plenty of action along with great artwork.Every Star Wars fan needs to read this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally good
I've been pretty majorly disappointed with the entire line of Clone Wars tie-ins. For such a major event in the Star Wars chronology, one would think that it would yield a great storyline. Instead, we've been feasted to yawn-inducing new characters and a majority of storylines only marginally featuring the main characters. This volume of the graphic novels is the exception to that rule.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Clone Wars Comic
I am a major Star Wars fan. I intially learned about Obi-Wan's "death" and his escape from Asajj Ventress with Alpha in a Extended Universe Databank entry for him on the Star Wars website. Afterwards, I practiclly tore through everything Clone Wars looking for this incident. When I finally got this comic in my hands (I rented it at the library) I was beyond excited.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yuck
With all the sentimentality of the past two volumes out of the way, Berserk really gets down and dirty with this, the eleventh volume of this bloody and violent series. In this volume, nothing is held back; it's almost getting to the point where I'm thinking there has to be something wrong with me for enjoying this series so much to this point. Yes, early on I was disappointed by Berserk because of some of the content (the child molestation scene in volumes three and four) but now, even with a graphic rape and dismemberment scene, it seems Berserk can do no wrong to me. Thankfully, I'm still cheering for the good guys so I can't be all messed up in the head; I couldn't wait for Guts to get revenge for the poor girl who had to go through the scene mentioned above. Plus, the story is heating up and adding things that weren't found in the anime, which is always good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dark, violent, and worth reading
Volume 11 of Kentaro Miura's medieval fantasy epic Berserk sets the stage for the end of the "Golden Age" story arc and the beginnings of the "Retribution" arc. This volume focuses primarily on action (e.g. fantastic fight sequences, especially between Guts and Wyald, a character introduced in volume 10) rather than advancing the Berserk plot, and Miura succeeds admirably. The supernatural elements introduced in the first several volumes (the "Black Swordsman" flashback arc) but muted during the "Golden Age" are starting to intrude upon the human realm once again and threatening to engulf the world of Guts.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a Lulu!
John Stanley's Dell Little Lulu Comics are some of the most popular comics in history, and Dark Horse's recent decision to reprint them vies with The Complete Peanuts as the comics publishing event of the century. The Dark Horse series, currently up to twelve books, reprints the comics in black and white with color covers. Even the Another Rainbow hardback reprint volumes were black and white with included color covers. Here at last is the first all color volume, and it's a Lulu!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
This interesting book is the second book in the Knights of the Old Republic series. The series is a collection of graphic novels that takes the reader to the Old Republic, thousands of years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

probably the best of the tales of the jedi dark horse comics. exar kun makes this series, but the art is terrible and the story in all the TOTJ bland as a whole.

4-0 out of 5 stars All New Adventures, Some Great, Some Not So Great
Volume 1 is the weakest of the "A Long Time Ago" collections, but the quality of the stories shows a trend toward improvement.Marvel's adaption of the original "Star Wars" is passable, with wide variations in the quality of the artwork. The first story arc, concentrating on Han and Chewbacca after the movie, is dreadful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic and Corny
Before the days of Dark Horse there was:THIS STUFF.On the one hand, this is what we once had.On the other hand, some of it was really corny.Sometimes the art was pretty awful.Other times it was the story line.Yet, through it all it was a lot like a grade B movie in comic book form; fun to read though you could never take it too seriously.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE FUTURE WAS YESTERDAY
For kids, and those who otherwise cannot grow up (preferring the late night reruns of SCOOBY DOO to anything resembling adult entertainment) of course Shirow's narratives are too complex to digest. That's the whole point! The future is and will be complex, full of change and chaos - as it should be! All of the master's works reflect this, but none better than GITS 1 & 2 (manga not movie). By contrast, GITS:SAC is of course more "exciting," with all that shooting and Kusanagi's threatening demeanor, the unquestioned technology you find in any adolescent point of view (these same kids deafening themselves with Ipods, like the teens of the sixties and seventies who went to way too many rock concerts and now find it difficult simply to HEAR). Challenging authority is supposed to be the point of teen rebellion, but in this age of "Mickey D's", gangsta clothing in upscale department stores and CGI characters replacing flesh and blood actors, there is nothing left to challenge. The original GITS and the idiosyncratic sequel require an ADULT sensibility, a real brain commitment, not the bemused brushoff of post-MTV attention defecit children. GITS, like 2001, showed the inhumanity of the future with the robots/droids/cyborgs more human than the biological beings standing beside them. Police work will be as risky as ever in the coming apocalyptic age, and perhaps the best we could hope for is an android with a big gun. Not questioning authority - and one's very existance, in a true Phil Dickian sense - should not be left to infants. It may be easier to simply float along enjoying the pretty computer generated roller coaster ride, every once in a while croaking "whoa" like Neo, but the rest of us non-savior typeswill be curled up in a comfortable french window reading Shirow as the machines uselessly battle each other for supremacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars BE HUMAN
Ghost in the Shell is more of an accumulation of stories printed over several years by the mysterious Shirow Masamune instead of a deftly plotted piece, so it reads more like an anthology than a series. Major Kusanagi is the lead operative for "Section 9", a covert anti-cyberterrorist unit in 2029 Japan. In this somewhat realistic future, the bodies of humans can be modified with cyborg implants, or even more extreme, the "ghost", or soul can be moved to a fully robotic body of various shapes and sizes. Even the most normal humans can communicate with each other through the net through receptors placed inside them. The big problem this world is having is the blurring of what is machine and what is human. Another one is that because we are connected over the net, viruses and hackers can actually take over the human will and force them to commit crimes. That's where Section 9 comes in. They have to deal with political assasinations, suicidal/homicidal cyborgs, criminals who can change bodies, and machines that want the same rights as us! And they have to deal with all this behind the scenes without bringing any attention to themselves or the public will cry murder.
5-0 out of 5 stars What we can learn through "Ghost in the Shell"
"Ghost in the Shell" is the SF comic written bi Japanese caricaturist,Masamune Shirow in 1991. This story became a movie and won a high popularity all over the world. Recently it gained popularity again since many short stories and the second movie of it, "Innocence" were produced.

Joe Kubert's Tarzan was one of the rare collaborations between character and artist that now seem definitive regardless of how many other talented creators try their hand--think also Curt Swan's Superman, Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four, and Barry Windsor-Smith's Conan.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Joe Kubert's faithful adaptation of "Tarzan of the Apes" for DC Comics
Way back in 1929 Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan of the Apes" was adapted in newspaper comic strip form by illustrator Hal Foster.A full-page Sunday strip began in 1931 drawn by Rex Mason, and since then Burne Hogarth, Russ Manning, and Mike Grell have been some of the big names that have drawn the Lord of the Jungle. The only problem is that I never lived anywhere that had Tarzan in the Sunday comics, so for me Joe Kubert is THE artist that I associate with Tarzan.By the time Kubert's took over the book with issue #207 of "Tarzan of the Apes" (April 1972), I had read all of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan novels, so even though I was only buying Marvel comics at that time when I saw the 1st DC issue with its 52 BIG pages ("Don't take less! Only 25c), I picked it up and Kubert's faithful four-part adaptation of the first ERB novel sold me on the comic. After all, not only did you have the first 26-page part of the adaptation, but an introduction to ERB in "The Dum-Dum" (written by "Marvin Wolfman"), which would be the book's letters page, an adaptation of "Tarzan's First Christmas" from Hall Foster's December 27, 1931 Sunday strip, and the first chapter of an adaptation of ERB's "A Princess of Mars" starring John Carter by Murray Anderson. What more could an ERB fan possibly hope for in one comic book?
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes! At long last a superb collection!
This is a book for which I've waited decades, having grown up on the Kubert DC books.Very well made and edited, this collection of DC Tarzan issues would go along quite well on the shelf with DC's Archive books.Whether you are a Tarzan fan or an afficianado of DC's Silver Age, you would do well to check out this book.Of course, if you are a fan of both, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, and you have already acquired this wonderful edition Dark Horse has offered us.Buying this was a no brainer, and my only question was why it took so long to get published, when the Manning stuff had already been reprinted years ago.If only those had been released in a volume as beautiful as this!Perhaps it's not too late to get the Horse to release the Hal Foster strips in a similar fashion to this Kubert collection. Are you listening, DH?

5-0 out of 5 stars Tarzan like you've never seen him before
Tarzan like you've never seen him is expanded upon and portrayed in living color by dynamic graphic artist Joe Kubert, who produces a vivid set of tales and provides archived drawings with color restoration based off of Tatjana Wood's original colors. This collection reprints the first eight issues of Joe Kubert's classic Tarzan comic series: works done at the height of his career. Two audiences will relish this collection and must own it: Kubert fans, and Tarzan fans. Each will find the full-color presentation provides high-quality reproduction and an uninterrupted set of adventures. Very highly recommended: a classic keepsake.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll need more than guns to stop this manga
The plot is just getting better and better!Great artwork and awsome gorey scences. It's every vampire fans' dream! There are more characters now but you get the feeling theyre not permanent. But God, this book is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hirano just keeps getting better!
Hellsing is already a masterwork, (albeit one in progress,) and volume four, as with all of the other volumes of the manga that have come before, seems to be no different. Hirano has outdone himself yet again, and proven, also yet again, that his style, like a fine wine, only gets better with age.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book rocks!
This is in fact the best one by far (it is also one of the only ones that there is cussing in, despite Hellsing's outward, violent appearance). I am actually 15 years old, but due to complications I wound up in the 13 and under review department. So here I am to tell you of the wonders of Hellsing vol. 4 by Kouta Hirano. The series overall is excellent. The drawings are detailed and inky, almost every page has a smattering of blood but its something you come to expect in a tale of vampiric, Nazi mayhem. The characters in this series are excellent and well-portrayed, and the vampire Alucard is a character of many layers and shades; quite intriguing. The story is well-developed and the charcters help push it along. This is a must-read for all vampire fans out there, and I know there are plenty. But this is by far...no tale for the weak of heart...or...stomach for that matter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Marvels Ignorance and You
Like the name of the review suggests dont let Marvels ignorance of Star Wars hinder your purchase of this item.Based on what we know now of Star Wars the stories in this volume will seem kind of strange and a tad weak.Truthfully there are a quite a few really good stories in this volume, including the Clone Wars Obi-Wan story that is included. Its pretty cool to read a story made in '78 about events that we finally saw and read about today (The Clone Wars).
5-0 out of 5 stars Marvel Star Wars Comics are better in the back bins.
The Marvel Comics Star Wars books captured the fun and excitement of the movies as they were from 1977to 1983. Archie Goodwin was a huge SW fan and he tried to give each issue justice. It;s a well known fact that Marvel published better Star Wars comics then Dark Horse ever could hope to do.Better off buying the original issues in back issue bins at comic book shows.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Marvel Star Wars
I read the first volume in this series, "Doomworld," and enjoyed it, but thought it was a bit corny and too cartoonish in places.I was surprised and pleased that the comics got much better with time.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Battle Rages
The only problem I've yet to have with Berserk is how fast they are as a read. I finished volume two in less than a hour. Though I will admit that the manga had me hooked, it wasn't just that that made this manga seem so short despite being over two-hundred pages. A lot of what happens in this manga is presented in imagery, and not in character dialogue. In fact, contrary to today's manga, where everything is over-explained, the Berserk manga under-explains. It lets its action speak for itself. I don't consider this a bad thing, though; it just sucks closing the book for the last time.
5-0 out of 5 stars It continues.
I adore Berserk. It's the most depressing comic I've read, while being action packed and full of memorable characters. I'm grateful Dark Horse picked it up not too long ago, as spending x3 as much on import volumes was becoming a chore. Plus they've been doing a great job on the translation. There were only a few minor errors I noticed, but it's not something the casual reader is going to see. I'm not going to give a summary of the story in each review, as I already did that in my review for the first volume. So just resort to that if you need a backstory. But in Volume 2 here, we continue following Guts, or as he's now known- The Black Swordsman.
3-0 out of 5 stars Bilingual Review -Worried Fan
It pains me to see one of my favorite manga titles get turned into half-assed translated English third rate comic. I have read the Chinese and some of the original Japanese versions of the manga and it seems to have something the english version lacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars oooooo aaaahhhhh
Do yourself a favor and read the first five before finishing off one of the most incredible series of all time. enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars five stars purely for the art
This is probably the sickest display of comic artistry I have ever seen; just take a look at the last phase of Neo-Tokyo's destruction, one can only imagine the countless hours Mr. Otomo must have spent on each building.Dizzying in its scope and sheer level of detail.Absolutely stunning.Would reccommend anyone who has any desire to illustrate to at least pick a copy up at your local Barnes and Nobles, if only to see how awesome a graphic novel can really look with some dedication.

5-0 out of 5 stars The end of THE epic!
Wow! Akira has finally ended. Some twenty years after Otomo got the Akira project started, it still remains as one of the greatest tales of our time.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good... but bad (4 for Star Wars fans)
These types of anthologies can sometimes be a mixed bag. The stories here range from great to bad, but thankfully never reach terrible. Very few of them get to the excellent stage either.
5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book: IT IS YOUR DESTINY!!!!
This is a must read of any Star Wars Fan.I really think 5 stars isn't enough!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Back-story Heaven
The Star Wars Tales volumes are collections of back-stories, vignettes, and dramatic graphic-literary renderings of familiar Star Wars characters. Volume 1 is stuffed with great shorts: Lando and his luck with the ladies...oh, yeah and the essential Bespin back-story; the on-going comedic-drama of the life of Villie; the inside story on R5-D4, aka Skippy the Jedi Droid; and even the delightful tale of how Jar-Jar was put into exile. But several Darth Vader stories will make Star Wars fans cringe with delight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dark and Light
Love the H.P. Lovecraft gothic horror influences, the sarcastic humor, and the art...FANTASTIC!

5-0 out of 5 stars The worm crawls in...
The last collection(for now..sigh) ends with a big bang as Mike Mignola continues to delve into the history of those pesky nazis. As Indiana Jones would say,I hate those guys! Just as Steven Spielberg understands and honors all those pulp stories in his Indiana Jones movies(along with another guy who understands the pulps, George Lucas) Mr. Mignola brings out Lobster Johnson! to combat the Nazi nastiness! If all comics were even a quarter this well produced I'd be broke! Good news for Hellboy fans, the fun continues in Weird Tales and B.R.P.D! ... Read more
