3-0 out of 5 stars Good, But Flawed
I read the book from cover to cover and was surprised by all the information it contained, but I was more surprised(and dismayed)by what it DIDN'T have. There is no summary for the story "The Best Blades"(altough pictures from it are used), several sentences are missing from the summary for "Chewbacca", the summary for "Visionaries" has incorrect information, and the biggest dissapointment is that there is absolutely NO MENTION of the series entitled "River of Chaos"! Why the authors omitted it's entry is beyond me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To "A reader"
I am sorry for your loss and will make no positioning to state I in any way know how you feel. However, if you had taken the tiny extra bit of time to look at this graphic novel you would have noticed that not a single artist or writer made money on this. It was all a voluntary work basis and all the profits, every last dime, went to charities to help those that lost loved ones in this human atrocity.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hard to keep the moisture from your eyes
It is natural to flash back to that fateful day when you read these cartoons. With that in mind, it is hard to keep the moisture out of your eyes. Like everyone else, I was astonished at the fall of the twin towers, it stunned us all in a way that goes to the depth of our being. These are some of the most powerful cartoons that have ever been published. Not necessarily on their own, but in the context of the times, they cannot help but move you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt Tales of September 11th and it's Aftermath
There's really not much I can say about this book. The stories contained in it are poignant and touching and heartbreaking and hopeful all at once, and each and every contributor has given not only their time and talent to the project, but clearly they've also given a piece of their hearts. Being born and raised in New York City, the events of September 11th are especially painful to me, but I came away from reading this book feeling just a little more hopeful than I did when I started it. Kudos to all involved for a magnificent effort. (And all of the money goes to a good cause, too!) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice break
I found this graphic novel to be a change from standard Empire vs. Rebels. Instead it's Empire vs. Empire, which get's very interesting. Speaking of interesting, Trachta's (Grand Moff Trachta, the leader of the attempted coup) plot to overthrow the Sith was very. An unusaul thing for a Grand Moff to be doing, but anyway. The new characters were excellently done (Trachta, Kadir, Gauer). Very good art by Ryan Benjamin improved the rating to 4 stars. The only minus to Betrayal was the shortness. Could have been a lot longer (and a lot better). A good read.

3-0 out of 5 stars The secret plot to assinate Hilter...er, I mean Vader.
This comic story takes place a few week before the beginning of Ep. IV A New Hope, when a few Imperial officers, including a couple Grand Moffs, plot to assinate both Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine in an attempt to save te Empire from their power hungery drive to control the galaxy.Remind you of anything?Sure does me.This reminds me of the plot to kill Hilter to save the Third Reich from destruction from within.
4-0 out of 5 stars Too short but well-written; this is a good story arc.
While the artistic depictions of some characters may be a bit dodgy, this first story arc of the Empire comic was well "storyboarded" and well-written.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Kill a God
If the first volume didn't hook you (and I don't see how that's even possible), this one will do it.Lone Wolf takes on one of his strangest assignments here, and you get a peek into what set him and his son on this road.
4-0 out of 5 stars Getting better all the time
The series begins to take shape in LW&C2. I found the first volume repetitive due to the similar narrative structure employed throughout every chapter, but I mind that structure less and less in Vol. 2 as the characters develop. I'm hoping Vol. 3 continues this trend.

5-0 out of 5 stars "If you meet the Buddha, kill the Buddha."
I have been reluctant to undertake the reviewing of this series for two reasons. For one thing, there are some 24 volumes, which mean a considerable commitment in reading and writing.Second, one of my favorite reviewers is also reading through the series, and it is no small effort to find ways to bring further insights to the reader.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aragones at his best
Much as I love Aragones' "Groo" and other such comics, sometimes I think he's at his absolute best doing quick, silent gags like the ones in this book. In the sequel to "Louder Than Words," Sergio treats us to another six issues' worth of silent pages, quick jokes and punchlines. This is a book you can put down and pick up at any time, read any page by itself and crack up. Here's hoping he gets around to doing a third series soon -- although I haven't the foggiest clue what he could call it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny Stuff!
How many silent one-page gags can Sergio Aragones do before he runs out of funny ideas? Lucky for us, there appears to be no end in sight! Sergio is truly a master of his craft, and he's on top of his game with Actions Speak. I laughed a LOT, and spent an equal amount of time appreciating his deceptively simple-looking artwork. I can't recommend Actions Speak highly enough! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Six tales of the winter of Ogami Itto's discontent
"Chains of Death," Volume 8 in the Lone Wolf and Cub manga epic by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, offers something of a change of pace as Ogami Itto's walk on the Assassin's Road has several diversions:5-0 out of 5 stars The masterpiece of Japanese manga
The saga of Lone Wolf and Cub should be in the collection of anybody with an interest in Bushido, the Japanese warrior philosophy. Goseki Kojima's powerful storytelling and the late Kazuo Koike's brutal visuals have captured the essence of the quest of an honourable man in the cruel world of Shogun-era Japan. There are many manga series, but none better than Lone Wolf and Cub. ... Read more

Beautifully illustrated and well told. Frances' art is to die for (no pun intended). Her luscious gothic world is definitely a keeper. I cannot wait for the next installment in the Favole series. Disappointingly short though.

I first saw some of Victoria Frances' art in an issue of "Heavy Metal", and I fell in love with it right then. When I got the book, "Flavole: Stone Tears", I felt like I was reading a dream. The art is unbelievable.I love this book, and I can't wait for more books in this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inimitable experience
This is the second book that I've read by Neil Gaiman. The artwork blows you away. This is what graphic novels should look and feel like. Violent Cases just captures the awe and fear of the unknown from a child's perspective. It seemed like I could smell the narrator's cigarette smoke and was transported back to the 80s (when this was written) to listen to his story. What is even better about the artwork is that it varies from page to page. Not that every spread is different but to capture the story best, each scene is different. From line drawings to paintings, this book is remarkable. Definite must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gaiman and McKeans best book!
It just doesn't get better than this! Violent Cases is truly Gaiman and McKean at their best. Every panel of McKean's artwork is a treasure and something I would be proud to have framed on my wall. Gaiman captures the essence of childhood in this like he has yet to do again, or before. It just feels real... real and interesting, enticing, engaging. A must for Gaiman and McKean fans alike! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Adaptation
As the other review has stated, Dark Horse has done an excellant job with the Conan storys. They are more vibrant and real than the old Marvel comics. And I say that as a fan of the Marvel series, having grown up reading them. The Dark Horse version of Conan is just more "alive" and fresh. The only complain I have about The Demons of Khitai was that it was over way too soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars SOLID ART BUT A FLAT, ILLOGICAL PLOT
Dark Horse has done a truly magnificent job since acquiring the rights to do Conan comics. The reprint editions of the original Marvel comics with re-mastered art and commentary by Roy Thomas have been fabulous. The adaptations of the original Robert E. Howard stories have been dead on, and their original material has largely been brilliant.Unfortunately Conan and the Demons of Khitai is a bit of a step backwards. The book reprints the four issue mini-series written by Akira Yoshida with art by Paul Lee.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Epic, less episodic
Up to this point, the manga have maintained the larger arc of the Ogami-Yagyu feud in the background -- now the creative team focuses more on the feud. Here we get Ogami in an intense showdown with the Yagyu forces -- with strong ramifications. Daigoro is separated from his father and takes the spotlight for the greater part of this volume.
5-0 out of 5 stars Father and Son Take Different Paths On The Assassin's Road
At last, the true depths of the treacherous Retsudo Yagyu's obsession with Ogami Itto are explored, as he unleashes the dogs of war on the Father & Son. As you can see from the cover, with Frank Miller's stunning rendition of a Wolf and it's Cub standing atop a mountain of bodies, this book features a MAJOR battle scene, as Ogami and Daigoro face a seemingly endless horde of Yagyu's forces. The body count is high, but the true cost of the battle is more personal: Lone Wolf is seperated from his Cub. After the stunning battle between Ogami and Retsudo Yagyu himself, I was wondering how the series could possibly get any better. The stories featuring Daigoro on his own showed me exactly how. Great action, even greater characterization, superb writing and art.....Each volume is better than the previous one, and there are still 18 left!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ogami Itto and Daigoro are separated on the Assassin's Road
In the last two stories of Volume 9 of Long Wolf and Cub the manga epic set up what we assumed would be a significant story line regarding Ogami Itto's theft of a secret communiqué from the Yagyu. However, this turns out to be something of a feint by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, for there is indeed a major development in Volume 10 "Hostage Child."The title is not exactly one of the give stories collected in this volume, but does represent a more literal meaning for the final story, "Straw Boy":Read more
